The latitude of Jonestown is similar to that of NYC, but south of the equator (hence the reversed seasons). The climate would not be tropical.

This always drives me nuts when I'm abroad. Instead of speaking like a native English speaker, the American butchers grammar and uses some fake accent like he imagines the non-American to use and have. Which adds another layer of confusion and can be pretty offensive to anyone of that nationality around who *is* fluent. I'm amazed to even hear very experienced travelers do it. Oh...and using English except for one or two words that are nearly the same in the other language, or that would be obvious in English anyway. Pole: "you have my Nino?" LOL
