Shimpy, if you're right, then Ned didn't go to war just for Lyanna anyway. So we agree on that point :)

I think there is something you aren't considering in why Ned would absolutely go after Lyanna, despite being a sister, vs. a brother, even if I have the order wrong.  

 

But I'll go answer in the speculation thread.  Discussion continued here.

that was the action of someone who saw herself as allied with him.

Or someone who could make the distinction between all things Lannister and that Tyrion was -- at that moment -- just a fellow whipping boy of Joffrey', a position Sansa could empathize with quite well.

I agree with Direwolf Pup on timeline, also with shimpy on Ned marrying Cat posthaste, on the eve of war or even already in the thick of it.  Robb was older than Jon Snow but perhaps only by months.

I think Robert and Ned were at Jon Arryn's, when Lyanna was kidnapped. Jon Arryn readies himself and men to fight for Lyanna. Ned's dad and brother catch wind of the kidnapping, and also begin to get ready for war. Mad King hears about this, summons them, and then burns Ned's dad and brother. So the war actually started over Lyanna, but really caught wind after the Total Insanity of killing your Warden of the North (Ned's Dad).
