Why would a guy in 1910ish Europe have a football?

It was a football. American football came from across the pond in the mid-1800s, mostly from rugby. The scene is entirely plausible, and football at American colleges was already a thing in the early 1900s. I thought it was a cool thread of connection through the storyline!

Also, I'm choking up during every episode, and I'm a heartless pragmatist who *never* does that. So far, so good!
