S03.E04: Murphy's Miracle

Recommended Posts

Awwww...I think Citizen Z and Kaya make a nice couple.  I hope nothing bad happens to her.

Doc has so many one-liners, I can't remember them all but they crack me up.  I can't wait for him and 10k to meet again.

Speaking of 10k, he just looks so sad now, it breaks my heart.  However, I think he's going to spoil Murphy's plans somehow.

I still think the crew made a big mistake when they didn't keep the zapper from last season so that they could use it on Murphy whenever they needed to.

It's pretty sure 10k's figured out that Murphy "blended" him and either it's taking a bit longer for it to kick in or the kid's got a tougher will than Murphy's (either that or Murph's not trying that hard to control him-yet).  It was pretty telling to me that it took Murphy multiple times to get the kid to shoot that guy, anybody else would've shot the guy the first command. That and the fact 10k's seems to still have somewhat of his free will because he's continually mouthing off to Murph.

It raises the interesting question of whether believing you have free will strengthens that will.  Will he falter once he knows the truth, or will he continue to demonstrate his will as much as possible?

The way Murphy wields his power is interesting to me.  I'm of the belief that 10K would have died without Murphy biting him to rescue him.  Granted, Murphy did it because 10K is a valuable asset, but he always shows a streak of sentimentality.  As long as it doesn't interfere with his goals.  Meanwhile, he doesn't seem to desire to dominate 10K's existence, or Dr Merch's either.  They can be "themselves" unless he needs them to do something specific.  The only people he's treated like full zombie slaves are the military people, and as soldiers they didn't really have "free will" working for Zona either, if you look at it that way.

He wants to be a benevolent dictator.  And his delight at the end was getting people to WANT what he's doing.  Murphy is a unique character, and this entire scenario makes the show worth watching.  Because, honestly, just fighting zombies and traditional bad guys who steal your stuff is getting tired out.

The end of the episode makes me think that Murphy is going to build an army of volunteers who are willing to trade personal autonomy for improved health -- and then use them to take down Zona, for starters.

Maybe Zona needs to be taken down.  In the season 2 finale, Dr Merch said the Zona compound was formed before the outbreak.  So they were up to no good from the beginning, and must have caused the outbreak in the first place.

Murphy's creating a sort of zombie feudalism, I guess.  lol.  Mostly do what you want, but your will is subject to the king.  Until Roberta gets there.

I'm curious what caused the Space Needle to fall only 4-5 years into the ZA.

I still can't figure out where the Murphymobile was going when it was blocked by that car in Seattle -- it wasn't really a road or highway so much as an alley.  And how did that family know to follow Murphy from Seattle to Spokane after their daughter got better ?  And know which building Murphy had set up camp in ?

Don't Murphy's bitees have some sort of sixth sense of where he is? Cassandra seemed to always find him. The daughter probably led the family there.

That's possible -- but I suspected that it was more of a local lure/beacon, and didn't reach over hundreds of miles.

For example, I don't think Murphy is in contact with the couple that are taking care of Lucy.  Nor would Murphy even know the range of his control/allure since he only discovered his control powers after he bit Cassandra.

Maybe his range is widening because his bitees are like cellphone towers. They extend his coverage to wider areas with everyone he bites and leaves behind. That would be interesting!

I'm totally fascinated by fallout shelters and all that civil defense stuff, so I was hoping we'd get to see one, but instead just got zombie postpeople rushing out.  I do like the way that scene was shot, though, with the swinging lights.  It still worked; you could tell what was happening.

I also like that Dog is riding comfortably on the sled, under a blanket with grandma.  Brilliant.

I like where this show is going.  I think it will be interesting and I have more faith in the writers on this show than on TWD.  Which I wouldn't have said originally.  Oh, well.

Did no one else notice that the last post man of the apocalypse had a bit of a dig at TWD when he said "those walkers are real slow, you'd have to be an idiot to get killed by one of those"?
