The Meredith Vieira Show - General Discussion

I liked Mario when he was on The View too. He had moments even on there where he wasn't always "performing" and I could tell there was a real person in there. I always felt bad about how they had him acting a fool almost all the time though. At least he got paid something and had national screen time during all that madness.

I'm not looking forward to Yamaneika's return. I wonder if Meredith's ratings have improved any this season?

I just have to say it: I love the cast for this show. And if Mario was there everyday instead of Yamaneika, it would be perfect. I hope the ratings have improved or stabilized, because I'd hate to lose this group..

It was sad to see the audience's reaction to college, but it's true that things don't always end up happily going to college. Many end up in debt and still without a job, so I can understand it. I don't regret my own education and I think I'm better off having received it, but if I had it to do over, I wouldn't have gone to college either.

I find it’s hard to come up with comments for this show. I guess because positivity doesn’t extend a discussion. It ends up being a lot of “I liked this,” “I agree with that,” etc. It’s nice to have something like this on TV to enjoy. I’ve heard some talk about The Chew the same way and I’d try that out, but it focuses more on food.

I also think that Mario every day would be perfect on this panel. The Whoopi wannabe can go away IMO.

My bold.  I used to watch The Chew & really enjoyed it until they started incorporating stupid games & a lot of nonsense, otherwise ....

She was back today. :(

I watched The Chew for some of the first season it was on but I don't watch it often anymore. I was stuck watching during a time when I had to go somewhere for physical rehab and the local channels they had kept disappearing so at times ABC was the only local station that would come in. They didn't have a good variety of other channels because they had a weird package from DirecTV. I agree about all those stupid games and catering so much to the studio audience to the point where it feels/felt like the at home audience wasn't as important when they are the ones that provide ratings. Sorry for all the babbling.

I've seen Aretha act the diva in interviews and I've seen her give the side eye. With Meredith she was comfortable, gracious and endearing. The audience gave her a standing ovation and Meredith was thrilled to have her on the show. Aretha says thanks for having me. Wonderful interview.

She sure gets all huffy & tough black lady when she is challenged or disagreed with.  Oh man!!!

She was even worse today. Geeze. It just seems like she doesn't do anything to try and improve the way she handles herself as a panelist.

I'm so glad Yamaneika didn't say much of anything after the Caitlyn Jenner topic, because that was enough out of her right there for me. Back to screaming, and now saying "the audience agreed with her" as a way to feel superior to everyone else. I don't care what those measly 50 people in the studio think any more or less than I care what she thinks. Numbers don't make an argument--the majority would screw minorities unfairly every time. Now, I agree Caitlyn Jenner has been sensationalized, but her ranking at #1 on Walters' list was deserved considering how much the media did obsess over her and that's all that list has ever been about. And who else would it have been--Trump? No thanks. I'm willing to bet that many people out there (Yamaneika included, whether she'd admit it out loud or not) are annoyed by Caitlyn Jenner partially because the topic makes them uncomfortable and they don't want to think/talk/hear about it just as much, if not more, than people who are only annoyed because she's Kardashian-related. And Laverne Cox did not create anywhere near the degree of public conversation about being transgender or transitioning, so no, Yamaneika, you can STFU.

I like how she screamed over everybody the entire topic and then when Lance did the same thing to her, "WHO? WHOOOO?" she was up in arms like she was the one being attacked. I cannot stand this woman, and I'm a little disappointed that Meredith would have cast this kind of loudmouth. I didn't know her before this show and wish I didn't know her now.

OK, I will join you in agreeing I cannot tolerate Yamaneika's screaming. I can't get to the remote fast enough to fast forward her. So frustrating.

Just finished ff'g through "Hot Topics" & was really put off by Yama constantly interrupting everyone (except Meredith).  I'm pretty close to done with the show ....

That's too bad!!  (I think Yama's contrary personality killed her "What's Hot Now" segments.)  Just sayin'.

I agree. Yama made me want to stop watching quite a few times. Now I feel like I kinda have to see the show through to the end. I wish they'd let them finish out the whole 2nd season.

Meredith is likeable and is a good interviewer. But that doesn't count in the ratings because I guess people would rather watch screaming and phony friendships on television. I liked the new panel but one of the panelists was just like what I described. They threw her in to make the panel more lively and to some of us she ruined it. Nice guys finish last and it is a shame that Meredith will lose her show.

I think if TMVS had begun its first season with the "What's Hot Now!" segments, it would probably be doing okay in the ratings. People really only try-out a show when it first premieres and they won't pay attention to whether or not it's revamped into something better the second season.

What a shame. I was hoping it would get at least a third season. I had wondered if she might have been asked to return to The View with Whoopi soon to be out, but she had her own show. Now, with that out of the way, maybe...?

Meredith said in an interview that someone at The View (a producer?) asked her when she left "What will you do!" as if she couldn't succeed at anything else. I doubt Meredith would go back but I would be happy if she did. She and Joy would do a great job together over there.

Maybe the person who said that is no longer working there? I wouldn't doubt if Joy would try to persuade her.

Plus, if something happened to The View, it would be nice for it to go out with Meredith there, just like how it began.

Would love to see Meredith back on The View, but maybe she would consider it a step backwards.  But could you imagine the Whoopster's head exploding with both Joy and Meredith there?  And how would Meredith contain herself and  not try to take over if Whoopi stayed the moderator.   But then again, maybe a semi clean sweep, bring back Joy and Meredith, keep Paula, and ditch the rest and look for new panel members.

Whoopi would need to be gone for that to happen. And IMO it's a long time coming.

"Just like how it began". The good old days when the show was relevant and must see television for so many of us. Professional, Intelligent conversation, some controversy, some laughter, and enjoyable all around.

Too bad about Yamaneika being back. I was hoping she'd be sick these last three months. Oh well.

I liked that they brought up "Making a Murderer." This story is infuriating. I have never trusted the police, and these kinds of stories are why.

Today's show wasn't taped today obviously but it was still a new episode. Eva Longoria was also on The Talk today where she talked about the Golden Globe Awards and pictures were shown of her attending. Tomorrow Eva is supposed to be on Wendy Williams which made me wonder when she taped the Meredith interview and if she flew back over the weekend to attend the GG Awards and is flying back to NY for Wendy or if that interview will be a pretaped one.

Kathie Lee Gifford, though not one of my favorite people, had very nice things to say to Meredith. That Meredith is loved at Today by Matt, Hoda, etc. and by everyone she has ever worked with.

This show might not have been renewed because Meredith isn't edgy enough or whatever it was, but she is and will always be a good person who is loved and respected in the business.

Meredith's show comes on at 2pm here and used to be rerun after the rerun of Hoda & Kathie Lee at 1am. This week they started airing episodes of Jim Kramer's Mad Money from CNBC in the 2am slot instead.

I think I remember reading that they were going to quit taping new shows in March. They've been airing reruns this week and a lot of the shows since they acknowledged the cancellation on air have seemed pre-taped so the 'What's Hot Now' segments haven't been as entertaining.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Yamaneika said today that she won't watch the OJ Simpson series because she lived in LA during that time and remembers all the racial division because of that trial.

I've criticized the woman on this panel before but I agree with her on this one. I won't watch it for the same reason. I also hope that the families of the victims get some kind of payment from the production company because their life is now out there again. OJ had better not be getting paid for it. That SOB needs to rot in jail and not profit from it.

They are still airing new episodes sporadically and this week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are new. Not sure how many new ones are left the show website now redirects to their FB page and posts there say the last new episodes were filmed early last month. I kinda feel silly still watching but I'm really going to miss it. I'm guessing the upcoming Harry Connick Jr. talk show is probably going to take Meredith's show's slot.

The last show for Meredith today! I'll miss her and it's a shame that shows like Maury and that ilk remain for years and a class act like Meredith only gets two years. Today her friends came on and it was a great sendoff. Her staff and everyone involved are out of work but you could tell they love Meredith.

I enjoyed the last show. I agree with your post and will miss seeing her and the team she formed this season.
