scrb September 5, 2015 Share September 5, 2015 Assad was also educated in the West too. There was a question of whether he'd kill his own people to retain power, whether Western education would make him more open to democratic reforms. Of course once civil war broke out, he went a certain way. It's inconceivable that Bassam would do this. It would be one thing if the military controlled him but Jamal killed Tariq so no Abbudin general is going to go against the al Fayeeds' wishes. Maybe the show was originally inspired partly by Assad but if they had Jamal or Barry mimic Assad, then what, the show would kind of be at a dead end, because the only thing to depict is the tyrant trying to cling to power at all costs, even if he has to destroy the country, make the citizens flee. algebra September 6, 2015 Share September 6, 2015 Well it would be entertaining if the civil war continues, they find out the rebels are getting their weapons from a CIA outpost in Libya and send an attack team out to kill a U.S. Ambassador and bust up the supply chain. Link to comment
sjohnson September 6, 2015 Share September 6, 2015 General Bar Sinister referred to "peace" meaning IS/Caliphate has been disappeared for the happy ending under Good King Barry. If the show is renewed, they'll be back no doubt. Link to comment
Constantinople September 8, 2015 Share September 8, 2015 I had to laugh when Barry said the President shouldn't be succeeded by the President's brother. If Barry is so concerned about how political dynasties corrupt democracy, perhaps in Season 3 he could go back to America and fight for freedom there. 3 Link to comment
ganesh September 9, 2015 Share September 9, 2015 Not for anything, Barry, they're making posters of your face and gathering in the town square. Who else are they going to vote for? Link to comment
millennium May 2, 2016 Share May 2, 2016 I wasn't fond of Jamal's paranoia. He was a headstrong son of a bitch for most of the two seasons. We're supposed to believe he'd fall apart just because he blew up his mother? Come on. Leila in that purple satin ensemble ... just wow. My heart broke for Daliyah when she asked Barry to "remember the Bedouin woman he knew for a summer." Is it the show's intention to portray Middle Eastern women as so exotic and compelling that they seem almost a species apart from Western women? If so, they're hitting it out of the park.
