zoey1996 December 25, 2021 Author Share December 25, 2021 Murry Christmas (Gunsmoke) was on this week, so we watched it again. I never get tired of it. Starz Westerns afternoon line up now includes Wyatt Earp, two Death Valley Days, Tales of Wells Fargo, and The Rifleman. I’m enjoying The Rifleman; I haven’t seen any of them before that I recall. I consider The Rifleman as the best in its class of the half hour western or modern, mostly up to the 80s, cop/action shows 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-7194004

They had a lot of very good character actors, who they frequently reused in different roles. Personally I have a soft spot for half-hour dramas, the writing seems to be tighter. Madding crowd January 16 Share January 16 My son and I just started watching the old Daniel Boone show with Fess Parker. We especially like the theme song 🎵 Daniel Boone was a man, yes a big man! Lol I like Daniel Boone, it had a decent cast and the stories were interesting, even though they jumped around in time from the Seven Years War to the War of 1812, without being chronological. It's the kind of show that we'll never see again. It is one of the better theme songs, but Car 54 Where Are You? is still the best. "What a Boone, what a doer, what a dream come a truer was he." 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8268794
Madding crowd January 18 Share January 18 Yes, I’ve been telling my son he’s a dream come truer and he thinks it’s hilarious. I notice they took that line out of the theme song in later years. I like the earlier episodes which are more ‘western-like’ rather than the later ones where Daniel is dressed in finery. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8268850

I like the earlier ones because their seemed to be more actual outdoor footage while later they seemed to have the outdoors take place on sets, or the back lot. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8270649
Tom Holmberg January 22 Share January 22 I also saw the first two episodes of the show last week and Fess Parker sang in both, which I don't recall him doing in later episodes. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8272182
Tom Holmberg January 26 Share January 26 One of the best "Maverick" episodes ran today on H&I (1/26), "The Cats of Paradise." Bret becomes a cat wrangler when he's conned into collecting cats to sell to miners in a distant, rat-infested mining town run by evil sheriff Buddy Ebsen. At one point he meets up with a Paladin parody, who wants to kill him. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8275485
Tom Holmberg April 26 Share April 26 On April 30th, on H&I, they are supposed to be starting with Season 1, episode 1 of "Maverick." Finally, James Garner is back. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8352413

The problem being that it is H&I, after seeing how they cut up and took out content from Star Trek for more ad space. Anything on that network is a last resort for me. I would look for a discount DVD set first. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8374877
Old Lib December 13 Share December 13 I started watching Grit TV, as an alternative to news shows and my regular watching of true crime and crime dramas (on Charge and ION). Most of the shows on in the daytime were before my time. I do love seeing newcomers who would later become stars. The Lone Ranger is not very good with the acting and the sets were bad. Then having the LR have various disguises (old Italian man, generic older man), just bad. The Italian accent was so bad. I guess as a show mainly directed at kids it was ok. I do enjoy Zorro, as the lead is very charming. Bat Masterson is ok, albeit very liberal in the portrayal of the actual man. Tombstone Territory is ok, and I do enjoy Tales of Wells Fargo. Again, the lead, Dale Robertson has a natural charm. With the older movies shown, John Wayne seems to play the same character over and over. Same with Eastwood. Some of the western stars, not familiar with before, so interesting to see their movies. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/30240-westerns-old-new/page/2/#findComment-8531815

Started watching that a year or so ago because my grandfather was watching it a lot. I am in my thirties, and though I know a lot of the classic Western shows, I'd never heard of it before and have really enjoyed it. Dale Robertson has no right to be so handsome and charming. LOL I was also pleasantly surprised by The Rifleman. I assumed it would be cheesy, but it can be surprisingly hard-hitting.
