MegaJ July 24, 2015 Share July 24, 2015 Becky (Sarah Fisher) and Jonah (Ehren Kassam) make a great pair when it comes to music, but they’re finding romance to be a trickier pursuit. Becky isn’t sure how to deal with her feelings, especially where her faith is concerned. Maya (Olivia Scriven) is relying on gym class to bring up her average, but her dance partner is making things difficult. When Dallas (Demetrius Joyette) needs a babysitter for the night, Clare (Aislinn Paul) agrees to look after Rocky. Even though Clare thinks it’ll be a piece of cake, babysitting turns out to be harder than she thought. Link to comment
possibilities July 24, 2015 Share July 24, 2015 I hate how they're making Eli be the "all knowing and mature partner" to Clare's "losing her mind mom-to-be." Eli was never level headed at all, so WTF? I like that Becky is shown struggling to reconcile her desires and her rules, though her computer mistake struck me as ridiculous and contrived. It actually had not occurred to me that Tristan missed Maya's friendship. I find it frustrating as hell that he still defends his sickening relationship with the teacher, and I basically don't like him and think he's blaming Maya for things that are really not her fault (she didn't MAKE Miles do anything, Miles makes his own choices), so I'm not even sure that either of them should want the other's friendship. Maya may think she knows what's best for Tristan, but is she really going to stop thinking that? Especially when he's so prone to self-pity, and stupid or obnoxious stuff? Is the show really taking the position that she should not have reported the teacher, or that Miles is a helpless pawn in the face of her girly wiles? C'mon! So I don't know where this is going, but the reconciliation rang false to me. I thought it would be credible for them to agree to work together for the salsa grade, but the rest... I dunno. Miscarriage... I think quite a few people predicted it. I don't know how I feel yet because I don't know how they're going to handle the fallout. Zig being the suave dance partner to save Maya from her awkwardness was another example much like Eli's "cool savior for the ditzy girl" trope, and I am always disappointed when they dumb down the girls to make the boys look better. But I do think the two of them living together, with their history, is a realistic story to get a bit volatile, so I'm waiting to see where that ends up. Zig has a lot at stake here. Maya likes to "do the right thing" and I like that about her. But I wonder if her talk with Tristan will convince her to be less of a "goody two shoes" and just "be a teen" like Tristan apparently wishes she were. Maya and Becky are both being challenged, one for religious reasons and one for secular reasons, and I am curious what statement the show will choose to make with these parallel stories. I think it's a worthwhile set of questions but I'm nervous about where it's headed. I like Grace, but I wish she were more than a sounding board and tech genius for everyone else to bounce off of or exploit. Link to comment
luckyroll3 July 24, 2015 Share July 24, 2015 Yes, when exactly did Zig become this sage for knowledgeable and good advice? And again, why can't a male and female pairing stay just friends without the romantic entanglements and without one of them being gay. Zig and Maya had a very short thing, once, ok, maybe twice. But their relationship recently has definitely been more brother/sister/best friend, than it has been boyfriend/girlfriend. Maya can "love" him, and they can care for each other without bringing in the other stuff. And of course, they will get caught by mom and Zig is going to get kicked out. I can already see "The Fosters"-like storyline forming in my head. I know Tristan is in pain, but I just want him to shut up. He's so damn self-involved. Maya, of all people, has a perfect life? A decent friend would recognize that everything Maya has done in the past year (months? After all these seasons, I still don't understand how time works in Degrassi-land) has been because of Cam. Oh and it was nice that they actually mentioned him last episode. I also don't like that the show seems to be letting it sit that Maya was out of line for turning Tristan and his pedophile boyfriend in. The Becky storyline reminded me of old Degrassi episodes. Just super cheesy and funny. I had several laugh out loud moments. Glad to see that Becky's mom recognized that keeping information from her kids about how to properly address and handle sexual urges and/or questions, is probably what landed her creepy-ass kid in jail. It sort of rang true to me that Clare would be the panicky mom, especially when she pulled out all her reading material. Nice to see Jenna and Connor, but once again, why was Jenna not offering any advice about anticipating the baby, since you know, she had one and also had a boy? Or are we supposed to pretend that never happened? I love little Rocky. I wish he and his water gun can be around to squirt Clare in the face whenever she get's annoying. Where's his mom. by the way? I would think there'd been some interesting drama-filled storyline between her, Dallas, and Alli. Link to comment

I would think there'd been some interesting drama-filled storyline between her, Dallas, and Alli. It was great seeing Tara Spencer-Nairn who played Becky's mom. Loved her in Corner Gas. I rolled my eyes when Tristan said Maya has had a great life with boys falling in love with her. Ummmm... one commited suicide you idiot. That really messed her up. And I agree with the above poster that he is too self involved. Miles made his own decisions and both Miles and creepy teacher were using Tristian. Boy is too stupid to realize it. I think he makes better friends with Zoe than he does with Maya. Glad to see Jenna and Connor around as well and not stuck in the class where Dave and Wesley are attending. Interested to see how EClare handle the issue of a still born baby. Zig.. darn that boy is fine. 2 Link to comment
paceyjwitter July 24, 2015 Share July 24, 2015 - I guess I hold the unpopular opinion of actually liking Zig and Maya. :p I can't help it. I was never able to take them seriously as a platonic friendship. They revisit it at least once a season if not more, so I think the possibility of those two being like brother and sister went out the window long ago. For me, it just seems like they GET each other and I also think the actors have a lot of chemistry. The writing could be better and I feel like some of this is slightly rushed, but I'll put with it. If only because I genuinely like this ship and have been waiting on them for years. - Yeah, I agree that the Maya/Tristan make up scene left a lot to be desired. I like both characters, but that's SEPARATELY. They never really worked as friends after Tori moved away and it's just irritating to watch Maya take all the blame for what went wrong in that friendship. Because there were other issues, some of which were caused by Tristan himself. Maya is just too nice a person to know when to stick up for herself at times. I'm hoping they eventually allow Tristan to get some kind of closure over this Yates thing because he cannot continue to think what they had was in any way healthy. - It's too bad they wasted the first half of season 14 on Drew/Becky. I think Jonah is a really good match for her and the actors work well together. I'm interested in seeing where this will go since Becky is graduating at the end of this season while Jonah is an underclassmen. - Eli and Clare.. yeah. I can't care about them. I'm just counting down the days until they're both gone. One more week! Link to comment
Daisy July 24, 2015 Share July 24, 2015 1: this principal is very trigger happy with Detention. What exactly was the detention for? accidentally loading up sex websites on her own personal computer? like. honestly. But i loved Becky (I always liked her) and that she's open, etc.. I am not always happy how religion is portrayed on television but I do like sort of how Becky handles life as a Christian girl. so that's a yay 2: Shut up Tristian. Your teacher was a paedophile (which I am so mad they just 'poofed' that story away. now it's just. Well we had a thing, (we'll ignore he hit on Winston), Miles was clearly not over Maya (and quite frankly probably just using Tristian to get at his dad) but it's "I'm lonely and your perfect so I get to treat you like poo?" No dear, you do not. Maya stick up for yourself Zig is cute but I don't really want them to be together. 3: So Clare's baby is a "tock" which makes sense. Alli was never pregnant, (false alarm ), Jenna was a tick (boy), Liberty was a tick (boy) and Manny was a tock (abortion). (and going back to the classics, Spike was a tick (obviously, Emma), and Heather was a tock in an abortion). the show has never covered miscarriage, and so I am glad to finally have them address this with a show. but poor Clare. this was a good week of Degrassi next week maaaaybe Grace has something that's not being a sage technogeek? Chairperson Meow July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 Clare actually miscarried. I kinda agree with her though, what was the point? Aw, Maya and Zig. Here comes the eventual Zig/Maya/Zoe/Miles messiness. 1 Link to comment
MegaJ July 25, 2015 Author Share July 25, 2015 I'm so happy that the show is taking it easy for a bit before they kick it into high gear with Zig's troubles again. This is reminding me of season two stuff (my favorite season) where the problems weren't that big. So Becky's a thirstbucket for Jonah. Ha. The whole plot was amusing, but all too real. One of my co-workers is a 17-year-old girl who told me she had sex with her boyfriend and thought it was like punching God in the face and I was like "oh so these Beckys DO exist." I'm glad her mother realized that not being candid may have led to Luke's issues and she actually talked with Becky about sex and it's more important to talk to Jonah about it. Speaking of Jonah, he was good here but he's being used simply for Becky's issues and I worry about the character since Sarah Fisher is gone after this season. I'm not sure who they can stick him with or if they'll continue to expand on his character. Two days detention for the porn on the overhead was too much, Mrs. Pill. It was an accident. Sheesh. FUCK YOU IN YOUR STUPID FACE TRISTAN. I haven't had a hate-on for a character on this show since Jenna bounced and smirked back in season 9. He is a terrible friend and so completely self-absorbed, it's no wonder he was angry at Maya getting all the attention from everyone else. I still can't believe he's still angry with her about Mr. Yates, even after Winston revealed that Grant tried to feel him up. I don't think Maya had to apologize for anything but if she wanted to be friends with him I guess she had to clamp down on her feelings. So the Clare/Eli baby. We knew they were going this direction, the groundwork was laid yadda yadda yadda. It doesn't feel cheap since this was the first miscarriage plot line in the show's history and Clare seems like she'll be destroyed by it. The plot before then helped too, it was cute and Clare and Eli seemed to be getting into the groove with their parenting. 1 Link to comment

Chairperson Meow July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 I mean, the plot is good, but like it was said above, what's the point of any miscarriage? I do hope they'll let Clare grow from it and not as a facillitator to reunite EClare. I hope we at least get reactions from Drew (who thought it was his for a while), Ali, and Jenna. Especially Jenna. Link to comment
aradia22 July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 I can't believe "straight edge" has finally come up on this show. Oh, Degrassi. I do like how Jonah very easily sees through Becky's super obvious hints. I think it's a good dynamic for her even if they are kind of bland together. How in the hell did they afford studio time though? I like that Becky is shown struggling to reconcile her desires and her rules, though her computer mistake struck me as ridiculous and contrived. Yeah, it made no sense for her to go to her history. Why didn't she just type in the web address/site name? And don't tell me she doesn't know how to use a computer. One of her recent enough stories was flirting with Hunter on an online MMORPG. I did like the scene with her mom in the car. I mean, it's a little late to decide to parent but better late than never, right? Imogen is great. Scenes like the one with Becky in that classroom make me wish they would find a reason to hold her back. But who has musical rehearsal in the middle of the day? Also, why didn't Becky do the musical? That scene with Zig and Maya dancing in the kitchen was so perfect. Straight out of a rom-com. The only problem was that it was Maya. You can't tease Zig/Maya, refuse to deliver, offer the prospect of Zig/Zoe and then expect me to go for Zig/Maya again. It's not going to happen, Degrassi. Did Clare really lose the baby, Degrassi? Did you put me through all of this for nothing? 1: this principal is very trigger happy with Detention. She really doesn't seem like the worst but then I was never that bothered about cell phones or PDA in high school. 1 Link to comment
Lone Wolf July 26, 2015 Share July 26, 2015 That scene with Zig and Maya dancing in the kitchen was so perfect. Straight out of a rom-com. Ending with Mom and Burger's Priest. This show has expanded my knowledge of Canadian cuisine more than I would have ever imagined...poutine, Montreal-style bagels, and now Burger's Priest. It's getting to where I watch an ep, then go right over to Google. 1 Link to comment

Like I like Principal Pill out of the several we've had (Raditch who always felt like everyone was wasting his time even in the classic days), HotSauce who was Hot after Simpson,, the Shep (don't even). like Archie was great, but Pill doesn't seem to be "reacting" she's actually putting rules down that should have been down period - ie: having teacher supervision for school events. my high school we weren't allowed any of that either.(pda or well, pagers at the time). my belief was good why are you calling people when you were at school. make plans. outside LOL i just mean that almost everything. boom. detention. and in Becky's case, i don't get why she got any.
