I don't know, I just know that I think Slash Fiction best represents the Gamble era what with taking away their friends, i.e. killing Cas a couple of episodes ago, destroying the boys identities, taking away Baby, taking away their computers, creating a new Bobby with Frank and then getting rid of him for Charlie. AwesomO4000 November 1, 2016 Share November 1, 2016 Oh I agree with you on that one actually. I also think it has some brilliant humor. It's definitely my choice for top episode. I just like most of the other episodes fairly similarly - except for "Appointment in Samarra." And not because I don't appreciate that Dean saved Sam, because that was great, but because it's kind of a downer compared to many of the other episodes left. And one of my favorite things about the Gamble era was the sort of dark humor and general wistful tone of the seasons, despite the bad stuff. And for me, that one doesn't have enough of that. And so I've been trying to have it be the next to go for the past week or so, and it and French Mistake (which I love) have been switching places for about 5 days. "French Mistake" has been saved from death 3 times - only one of those by me! - and "Appointment..." has been saved once (I got it thiiiis close). And they're once again tied (I'll be fixing that momentarily, but I don't expect it to last - hee). I can't remember the last time it took us so long to get the next episode eliminated, so I think both episodes have enough fans that we can't seem to part with either... And I think it's only going to get worse after that. I know it will for me. I think my most pleasant surprise so far has been the love for "Born-Again Identity." I thought I was one of the only ones who really liked that episode. (Even though I have to overlook the way that "Emmanuel's" wife kind of gets forgotten by the end, and I kind of question the Meg thing, but other than that...) 1 Link to comment

But I just don't really like Weekend at Bobby's all that much (heresy, I know). I like it because I think JA did a good job directing but I don't know it's just not my fave. 1 Link to comment

Demented Daisy November 1, 2016 Share November 1, 2016 I'm down voting Born-Again Identity and Hello, Cruel World because I don't know, by the title, what episodes they are. Which tells me I didn't find them memorable. I can't vote for something to be the best if I can't even remember it by name. (I have looked them up and haven't changed my mind about down voting them.) Slash Fiction and Time After Time are good, but I didn't find anything particularly ground-breaking -- or even inventive -- about them. Both are clear homages to movies/filmmakers. Like Frontierland, I felt like I've seen them before. Appointment in Samarra at least tried to teach Dean a lesson, tried to get some character growth. It didn't stick, but I don't think that's Gamble's fault. The French Mistake I have a love/hate relationship with. (I don't hate it, truly, but "love/like" doesn't sound right.) It's very funny, but less so each time I watch it. It's (literally) not something they've done before, but the show has toyed with meta before (and since) so it's not as amazing as it once was. So that leaves Weekend at Bobby's which really is my favorite episode of the Gamble years. Apart from loving Bobby, I enjoyed seeing someone else's perspective of Sam and Dean. We got a new monster (something I feel like we haven't gotten in ages) and a crazy, messy, hilarious kill. We got a near-perfect musical moment. Hell, Dean even got on a plane because he loved Bobby so much! Plus, yes, it's Jensen's directorial debut. It has some really wonderful brother moments and some great lines: DEAN: Whoa, whoa! Sam! This discussion does not require a weapons discharge! DEAN: Hey. I am your flesh-and-blood brother, okay? I’m the only one who can legitimately kick your ass in real time. You got away. We got you out, Sammy. Believe in that! Believe me, okay? You gotta believe me. You gotta make it stone number one and build on it. You understand? And then, DEAN (on phone) You cannot be in that crater back there. I can’t... If you’re gone, I swear, I am going to strap my Beautiful Mind brother into the car and I’m gonna drive us off the pier. You asked me how I was doing? Well, not good! Now you said you’d be here. Where are you? Born-Again Identity because we get to really see just how bad it is for Sam, yet he holds it together just enough to save someone else. Meg, comes back and I am probably not supposed to like her, but I do and I love her with her Clarence. Castiel has remorse and takes Hallucifer for Sam.
