I remember that Liv sent her to the White House in her place at some point during Season 3... So I'm guessing that, even though her day there was awful, when they had a vacancy they went for her since they kind of knew her. Or that Fitz hired her because he thought it would keep him close to Liv when she went to the island. 1 Link to comment

I was blown away with how bad-ass Abby was when confronting ex-husband-abuser Chip in that dark parking garage. She pulled that gun and upset his plans of a let's-have-fun-reunion Chip had in mind.
