I'm enjoying the way Franks and Gibbs are bonding.  Makes you understand why Gibbs always remained loyal to Mike through the years.

So was that Frank's wife that had been the victim of rape?  Or was that the strange woman that cuts hair on the side of whatever else she does for a living at NIS?

I think it was the wife but that hair cutting woman mixes me up all the time.  She seems to be everywhere but doing nothing at all ... except maybe cutting hair.

And can we have a lab rat just once that isn't eccentric?  I mean I enjoyed it for years but we are going to the well too many times at this point.  I bet lab rat woman doesn't want hair cutting woman to get near her pastel-colored locks, lol.

Anyway Origins seems to have better written scripts by far than the mothership this season.  That show's plots make no sense at all.

Franks lives with her and they might be married, but remember the time frame. The other woman at NIS is smaller, has more delicate facial bones, and has curlier hair. Not really clear on what the latter’s role is at the office.

Was she the one with the microfiche reader thumb skills? If so, then she is the dual role agent in the McGee or Sebastian role.

I was watching their Assistant Medical Examiner Palmer type thinking she really is channeling Lori Petty, only to pay attention to the credits.

This is a solid, compelling episode. 💙

Quote

“But the real healing wasn’t about a cast or a broken bone. The real healing wasn’t about me at all. And it wasn’t about getting vengeance, either. It was about the one person that saw I was broken. The one person who saw I needed to be saved. And dropped everything to pick me up off the floor.”

This episode shows what we need to see — Gibbs at rock bottom, so we can appreciate how far he has overcome. Austin Stowell gives a compelling performance as an angry and broken Gibbs.

Building a birdhouse in his apartment is just a humble beginning. Gibbs will work his way up to building a boat in his basement. Gibbs looks so happy watching the bird he rescued flying off. 🥹

Quote

“Damn, probie. You got to clear a path for people when they’re exiting.”

Franks has inspired Gibbs’ Rule #62 — Always give people space when they get off an elevator.

Tish casually asking Lala about Eddie when she’s talking about Gibbs and the bird. Take the hint, Lala.

So, the secret case file that Vera handed over to Franks in E02 is about Tish’s rape, nothing to do with Gibbs.

Who is Vera?

The hairstylist is Tishmal "Tish" Kwá'la — Franks' life partner.

Vera Strickland — the agent who pioneers the profiling program in NIS. Franks' ex-partner in NIS. You see her talking to Lala in the locker room several times. She argues with Franks several times too.

So if I understand this correctly (and as someone who did not watch the Mothership), both Gibbs and Franks are secretly following up on cases that affected their significant others, so they share the same compulsion.  Franks has to give Gibbs some leeway, as he is doing the same thing.

“She’s so mean, but I don’t care.

I love her eyes and her wild, wild hair.

Dance to the beat that we love best
Heading for the nineties
Living in the wild, wild west
The wild, wild west (wild west)

I LOVED that song!!!!

Ahem.

I don’t think it was a good idea to rewatch the first four seasons of the mothership these past weeks while still watching this show!

I’m still struggling over how much younger Franks is in this show, and how everyone dresses too casually, when Gibbs and Franks wore suits with TIES when Gibbs joined NIS.  AND when Franks first met Gibbs.

And the offices weren’t dark. I mean the source material for that is RIGHT HERE. They can tailor the episodes and plots after Gibbs joined and what we weren’t shown in the original, but deviating from what originally was shown, it’s frustrating.
