HBO documentary premieres on HBO on Saturday December 7 2024, time TBA, and streams on Max

Logline: The story of Christopher Reeve is one of an astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star to global activist for disability rights and care. Chronicling his personal and professional life before and after the near-fatal horseback riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down, SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY uses Reeve's own words, as well as intimate input from his closest family members and friends, to paint a rich, nuanced portrait of a man who refused to be defined by his physicality and who proved that you don't need tights and a cape to be a hero.

CNN will also be showing this at some point as Warner/Discovery bought it for several of its networks. I saw excerpts of the doc when Reeves' family was promoting it for theatrical release a few months back and it looked great and it was obviously emotional as well

Beautiful story, warts and all.

It was a small moment in the whole of the doc but the bit about Chris pushing for a cure or partial cure while Dana made sure the foundation also focused on day to day living for paralyzed people made total sense. I think you need both, the former, even if there’s partial improvement, will improve patients’ lives and likely help them live longer, and the latter, patients need their daily needs met and to be able to go places and live their lives

Forgot to mention, I noted Will mentioning his "adoptive" family in the doc so I was curious what he meant. Found this article from People magazine. If you don't want to click, it was his next door neighbors. On a lighter note, I did not realize the reporter who was caught in his underwear on a zoom during COVID (he claims it was "shorts") was Will! Haha!

That's helpful as I thought he was referring to his half brother Matthew

Really enjoyed this. It was so moving at the end, their pain was raw. I get it, I still miss my dad seven years later. I'm glad that Dana had such a good relationship with Chris's children and their mother.

I remember feeling so heartbroken for Will when his mother died so soon after his father and he was still so young.

I think it's easy to forget how big a star Christopher Reeve was.

Just a matter of centimeters and he's either dead right away or has funny story to tell about being thrown from his horse.

Don't think I can re-watch, but I did enjoy this.

I enjoyed this too, but man, it's just so sad. Very difficult to watch such a physical person lose so much in a moment. And then the perfectly healthy Dana getting such a devastating diagnosis so soon after Chris passed.

I wonder if she'd spent so much time as a caretaker that she didn't necessarily keep up with her own dr appointments and such or if it was just one of those things that presented no symptoms until it was too late.

I loved the bits with Robin Williams, he really seems like he was such a good person to have around in such dark circumstances.
