I thought this was good. It’s always so sad to view Elvis docs. The *** colonel really ruined his life. Elvis died so young and that carney barker lived to ripe old age . And the damage this life did to the family. Priscilla is weird and has issues with her looks. Lisa Marie and her son are dead. And boy are there some crazy true stories.
My God he was just the most beautiful man in the world at times, as seen in the 68 comeback special. What Conan said at then brought tears to my eyes.

I watched the comeback special numerous times as a kid, so it was really interesting to watch this and get the background.  LOL at Priscilla seeing him come alive on stage and thinking "I'm married to him?"  And at her recounting the Beatles coming to the house, with John and Paul just staring at him, so Elvis said, "Well, if you're not going to talk," and turned on the TV.

Same here. I also remember a special that CBS, I think did in the 90s with Priscilla hosting, that showed clips from the special as well as his last performance. I recall her voice breaking at the end as she described Elvis' state of health.

Anyway.

I really enjoyed this and a few things were clarified. Like, I could have sworn that Elvis chose to join the Army and do "his duty" and not that he was drafted and didn't want to do it, as was shown here.

I really didn't care for the...gentle treatment Parker got here. Like he was some svengali who was responsible for Elvis reaching the heights he did. Only exception was that one author who called him out.

Good Lord, I barely recognized Priscilla. All that botox and whatever else she's had done (one I know to fix the horrid botox she had done) and now her mouth looks all warped. At first I thought she was trying to affect some kind of accent when she first appeared.

Now I want to go and find the special to rewatch as well as that special from the 90s. I will admit, during the 90s, I went through an Elvis phase. But Lord I can't watch any of his movies except for the songs.

I will never watch anything about Elvis and not come away hating Col. Parker. This was very good and sad. The talent was undeniable, but so was the insecurity. I love only two Elvis movies, "Jailhouse Rock" and "Follow That Dream", no tolerance for the rest. Never saw the '68 Special, but am glad it was so well received. And nice to see the respect other artists had for Elvis.
