A comedy?  Really?

The source material is a unserious young adult novel that lives up to all the stereotypes of young adult fiction.  It's very loosely-based on established history to the point where the only thing the characters have in common with their historical counterparts is their names.

I'm assuming this is the book the series is based on

and if that is the case. my anticipation of this series has diminished a lot. Definitely not what I thought the alternate history was going to be.

Yes it's that book. I did attempt to read it, but could not finish it.  It's an alternate history where all the abuse, death, and corruption stripped away in the name of "fun."  I do see why Amazon is adapting it though.  The book predates shows like Hulu's The Great and Apple's Dickinson while having similar vibes but with a supernatural twist.

My Lady Jane is a Genre TV Series with all 8 episodes streaming on June 27, 2024 on Prime Video, an alternative historical, supernatural, adventure, fantasy, romantic comedy set in Tudor England in 1553, a time when the country is on the verge of a civil war. My Lady Jane is based on a 2016 novel by (The Lady Janies) Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows, and is the first, in a series of young adult novels, that reimagines the stories of overlooked, misunderstood, or ill-treated historical women, usually with a magical or supernatural twist.

In Real Life: Henry VIII's young son King Edward VI dies of tuberculosis.
In 1553, Lady Jane Grey was crowned Queen of England. Nine days later, she lost the throne - and shortly thereafter, her head.

My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII's son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband Guildford. At the center of this TV Series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)... My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.

In July 10 to 19, 1553, Lady Jane Grey was crowned Queen of England. Nine days later, she lost the throne - and shortly thereafter, her head, at the age of 17. But what if history were different? My Lady Jane is a satirical comedic fantasy series that reimagines the rise and reign of Lady Jane Grey. When her ambitious mother sells Jane's hand to the highest bidder, Jane is dismayed to discover that her dreaded husband-to-be, Guildford Dudley, is an infuriatingly attractive stranger with a dark secret, one that has the potential to get them both killed. But there are greater conspiracies afoot, a plot to murder her cousin, King Edward VI, and throw the entire kingdom into chaos.

Honestly, sorry for those that enjoyed it, but I’m not sad about this.

There was something weird about making a comedic show using the identity of a real, horrifically murdered teenager, that just didn’t sit quite right with me.
