Whimsy August 5, 2023 Share August 5, 2023 Quote Some hangovers are worse than others. Belly wakes up to a reminder of the mistakes she made last night. But is it too late to fix everything? Original airdate 8/11/23 Link to comment
RachelKM August 11, 2023 Share August 11, 2023 (edited) Fucking Hell! I have NO sympathy for Conrad. He's a God damned mobius strip of issues. But Jesus Christ, Belly is an idiot. Belly was saved by chance when Conrad fell asleep before she could drop her Jere confession the night before his Stanford confirming test. Because THAT would help him focus. Then she spends the whole day with Jere and waits until they're back at Brown waiting for Conrad to meet them to confront Jere and draw him in for a make out. I don't think the show intends to convey her as a thoughtless asshole or a shit stirring jerk. But, the alternative is to believe she is so dumb and/or self-involved that she cannot see beyond her own emotional impulses to anyone else's needs or potential fall out. Yes, teenages are messy and self-involved. So that tracks. But it's hard to find her sympathetic. I have never been Team Conrad (obviously). i both like Jere better and think he has much better chemistry with Belly. But if this show keeps it up, I might jump ship from Jelly to Belrad (or whatever the fuck their ship is called) strictly for containment purposes. festivus August 12, 2023 Share August 12, 2023 I'm calling it Bonnie. Still team Jelly though. Yeah, this show is kind of hard to take but I just remind myself that teenagers are full of angst and every emotion seems like it's x 1000. So I still don't really have a problem with Belly. She did want to talk to Jer at the school but he shut her down. Plus I don't give two shits about morose old man Connie so there is that. 1 Link to comment
tired and hungry August 14, 2023 Share August 14, 2023 I'm confused. How old is everyone? Conrad goes to college so he must be 18 right? But Jere goes to Finch(?) then how old is he? Is Conrad in his second year and is Jeremiah a junior? Belly is younger than Jeremiah I think? I'm wondering why they couldn't buy alcohol for the party if they're above 18? Steven mentioned he was 18 too. Or is the legal age to buy different depending on the state and they needed to be 21 maybe? 1 Link to comment

Or is the legal age to buy different depending on the state and they needed to be 21 maybe? I think (based on nothing because I don't remember if this was addressed in-show) that Conrad is the oldest and is finishing his first year of college and hoping to transfer to Stanford his second year. I know Steven just graduated. I THINK Jeremiah and Steven are the same age and he may be getting ready to enter Finch (not a real school) and I'm guessing that Belly is thinking of applying to Finch now too? I believe Belly is entering her senior year of high school. ETA: I googled. Google tells me that Jeremiah and Belly are the same age, so he must've already applied and go in to Finch. Maybe early admission? The legal age to buy and consume alcohol for the entire US is 21. Hence why they needed fake IDs. My bigger question is what world do these people live in geographically that Laurel could say to the boys to "drop Belly off" after Conrad finishes his final? Laurel and Steven were going home, so I'm guessing she meant at THEIR house but Brown is in Rhode Island and Laurel/Belly/Steven live somewhere in Pennsylvania. Just a general "Brown to Pennsylvania" search in Mapquest says that's a 5 and a half hour trip with no stops. ETA again: The entire run of this show it's bothered me how they've dealt with their geographic locations. Boston to the Cape is approximately 45 minutes (give or take, depending on where you're leaving from and traffic). Pennsylvania to the Cape (where the fake Cousins Beach is located) is roughly 6 hours (again, depending on WHERE in Pennsylvania and exactly where on the Cape they are going). Belly always seems to leave and arrive at the same time as Conrad/Jeremiah. 1 Link to comment

So that including the drive to Brown and back to Belly's house after pulling an all-nighter to study. Plus had time for their shenanigans at Finch. How are they not falling asleep or at at the very least even a little bit tired? 18 minutes ago, Whimsy said: enter Finch (not a real school) Ahh I did wonder how there was a "popular" college that close to an Ivy League school but I guess they do well to be winning Volleyball championships🤣 @Whimsy Lol I like how we're focusing on such trivial details that have no relevance to the actual plot..🤣 Link to comment

So, even more than you said!! 1 Link to comment
RachelKM August 14, 2023 Share August 14, 2023 (edited) I stopped worrying about timelines for distances ages ago. I live in California. And despite many production companies existing in this state, it is quite clear when writers have absolutely no concept of our geography, sometimes even the geography within one metropolitan area. But it's particularly obvious when fictitious costal towns seem to float up and down our coast to simultaneously be close enough to LA for a to and back event/appointment and yet also an easy jaunt over to Monterey Bay. Brown is close enough to the Cape for at least that part to be reasonable. But I have no idea where Belly's house is actually meant to be with Conrad apparently visiting her at random like it isn't a half day's drive to get there or how he would get there from Brown in the middle of the night pick up Belly and then drive back Northeast to Cousins before dawn (likely passing back through Providence) .... and when did they go home? Did they just bone in font of the fireplace and then head back, Conrad again making a 10 plus hour round trip? Edited August 15, 2023 by RachelKM 5 Link to comment
xhoipolloix August 20, 2023 Share August 20, 2023 This is a small complaint for this crap fest of a series, but I feel compelled to voice it. It's believable that kids would call adults they are very close to by their first name, but Conrad saying to Belly "thank you for calling Laurel" annoys me to no end. He'd say thanks for calling your mom. Any adult would say thanks for calling your mom. Link to comment

I've even said "your mom" outloud a few times, but my TV doesn't care 2 Link to comment
