S02.E08: Hark! Darkness Descends!

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm so sick of them portraying Georgia as having some kind of political acumen that people fall for. Wtf was her word salad nonsense about "Small Business Saturday"? A percentage of the profits will go to the schools? What profits? The profits those small businesses are making? She can't just volunteer them for that. That earned her applause room the group? Are they all gullible morons?

Max's color block pants reminded me of a pair I used to have (way, way) back in the day. I loved them, and I love Max's.

I know! Small businesses don't usually have large profit margins to begin with. And I hate how Georgia sandbags George Paul with this kind of thing.

I really liked that even though Cynthia hates Georgia, she's not going to let her get hurt.

I did not see Georgia smothering Cynthia's husband. Yikes.

Poor Marcus.

Not sure who is George.  (Nick?  Paul?)

When the season started, I honestly had no idea what was going on with Zack's father, so I was wondering, had Georgia already done something to begin the process of killing him in Season 1?  But as Season 2 went on I thought, that would be ridiculous, that makes no sense.  And then....  well we saw what happened!

He does call her out on that later.

I’m more concerned about the mayor and his fiancé working together and making decisions together. Conflict of interest much? And doesn’t the town have a staff that implements programming? Why are Georgia and what’s-his-name (Paul’s actual assistant) doing all the work? And how can Georgia randomly write cheques from the town’s coffers? Isn’t there a town treasurer or accountant? And who writes cheques in this day and age? This town budget has $89M for the two schools? What the ever-loving hell? What’s the taxation there to fund that in addition to everything? And do towns actually fund schools? It’s big enough to have $89M for schools, but only has 3 people in the mayor’s office, including the actual mayor? I don’t get any of this.

Is all this just more Hollywood nonsense, or are American municipal rules just different?

And yet it continues.

I noted earlier that $89 million was a ridiculous amount of money for just the school budget. For a town that small, it's absurd. I don't think the writers thought that one through. And yes, towns do partially fund schools through property taxes, bonds, etc.

Wow, this episode was dark. I'm so worried that either or both Marcus and Abby are going to kill themselves. Marcus's opening description of his depression had me tearing up. That was well-written. Ginny is only seeing how it affects her; she needs to see Marcus.

I liked the AP English class having Ginny's back. Kudos to Hunter. I also liked Zion making himself known to Gitten at the town meeting.

Sophie's behavior made me angry. I hope Max can realize she's much better off without her.

I don't even know what to say about Austin having to watch his mother murder Zach's father. There's dark, and then there's dark. I still had some level of understanding for why Georgia killed both of her husbands, but it's evident  that she actually thinks that violence/murder is the only solution to all problems. Truly psychopathic.

I do like this show, but I didn't anticipate this level of darkness when I signed on.

I'm scared to watch Ep. 9, after hearing the gunshot at the end of Ep. 8, knowing that Austin's aware of where at least one of Georgia's guns is hidden.

She accidentally killed the first guy. The second guy was molesting her daughter. She's had tons of problems that she didn't solve by killing anyone.

The Tom thing was a bad choice by the writers for sure. I don't think they've ever given any indication that we're supposed to see Georgia as a psychopath. Her killing Tom just doesn't make any sense.
