Edith Wharton: The Complete Works   pages 9862  1.99  "This edition has been newly updated, professionally formatted and contains several working tables of contents.  Includes: The Custom of the Country, The House of Mirth, Ethan Frome,  The Age of Innocence, Old New York, The Buccaneers, and many more novels, stories, and non-fiction."

This is a great deal on her entire catalog.  Sometimes collections will be poorly formatted or have non-working Table of Contents, but I haven't found any problems.  I especially love her non-fiction section, with decorating tips in Houses and Furnishings, complete with pics.

Empty Mansions, by Bill Dedman  pages 573  1.99  "The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune.  “Empty Mansions is at once an engrossing portrait of a forgotten American heiress and a fascinating meditation on the crosswinds of extreme wealth. Hugely entertaining and well researched, Empty Mansions is a fabulous read.”—Amanda Foreman

I read this.  It was fascinating, if a bit long.

That's next on my TBR pile.  There's another book on sale about Huguette with good reviews that I'm tempted to get as well.

The Phantom of Fifth Avenue, by Meryl Gordon  pages 377  2.99  "The Mysterious Life and Scandalous Death of Heiress Huguette Clark." ""A perfect choice for the Grey Gardens set."-Booklist  "How a vibrant young woman morphed into a doll-collecting recluse who spent her afternoons watching The Flintstones sounds like a dreary tale...But as Gordon's fine reporting reveals, it's also a deeply fascinating one." Sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's toes, but a number of the books listed above are already in the public domain. Which are therefore  available as free ebooks on sites such as Project Gutenberg.

Not at all, the Gutenberg link was posted at the beginning of the thread.  It's a good resource for freebies but I'd rather pay a little for the big collections that are professionally formatted.  YMMV.

This one intrigues me, though I'm not sure how much is true.

Twain's End, by Lynn Cullen   pages 353  1.99   "In March of 1909, Mark Twain cheerfully blessed the wedding of his private secretary, Isabel V. Lyon, and his business manager, Ralph Ashcroft. One month later, he fired both. He proceeded to write a ferocious 429-page rant about the pair, calling Isabel “a liar, a forger, a thief, a hypocrite, a drunkard, a sneak, a humbug, a traitor, a conspirator, a filthy-minded and salacious slut pining for seduction.”

"Lynn Cullen “cleverly spins a mysterious, dark tale” (Booklist) about the tangled relationships between Twain, Lyon, and Ashcroft, as well as the little-known love triangle between Helen Keller, her teacher Anne Sullivan Macy, and Anne’s husband, John Macy, which comes to light during their visit to Twain’s Connecticut home in 1909. Add to the party a furious Clara Clemens, smarting from her own failed love affair, and carefully kept veneers shatter.
