Although I think Mitch seems really nice, it would take a really specific woman to marry someone who stated every decision he makes is based on its environmental impact.  There may be related expectations for which someone is not prepared.

He really cleaned up for the interviews, but I didnt like his beach bum look during the home visit.

I agree with whomever said that it takes a very specific woman to match with him. Could not be me. Besides my fondness of paper plates, I do not have an affinity for sun and/or sand. I also worry that he might be the type that doesn't flush for number one. 🙃

Every match just seems like a disaster.  So, having said that, I am so in for the season!

Me too! I'm on summer break and I need something to watch!

I skipped the last two seasons because I needed a break (and they refuse to give us one between seasons), but I'm back for this one, partly because the first CA/West season feels like a change of pace. I read bits and pieces about the previous two seasons in the social media/spoiler thread, so I know there were some terrible people/matches, but don't have any of the baggage from those. So far I don't dislike any of these people, and I feel like there are at least a couple matches that have potential (I really, really want Miguel and Lindy to work out for some reason). But these matchmaking specials can be so misleading (sometimes in both directions), so we'll see.

I have to say though, even with a two-season break, they've really got to stop with the 3-hour episodes (which it looks like is happening next week). Even with watching on DVR in chunks it's a lot.

Yikes. There was a This American Life episode about a man who got so into environmentalism that he destroyed his family - he became abusive and his wife divorced him (she regrets not doing it sooner because of their kids & his impact on them) and neither she nor his children speak to him now. I’m not saying Mitch is or isn’t that extreme, but you’re right that that really has to be a common interest with your spouse because it’ll affect every aspect of the way you live and you have to be willing to live that way.

It's simply a reality TV franchise that's around to milk advertiser $$$$'s and provide a willing audience with what is essentially a "soap opera."

Yep, it’s a reality show. No more, no less. Any reality show that’s on for an extended period of time is at risk to kind of devolving, and this is no exception. TV/entertainment is first and foremost a business. I still think the show is interesting from a psychological perspective* but there are elements thrown in solely to create drama now that aren’t going anywhere, and that’s the nature of late-stage capitalist reality TV.

*Speaking of, I recommend listening to that This American Life episode - it’s fascinating from a psychological perspective. The descent into madness is … actually kind of easy to see, which is scary.

I was going to watch this, but reading all of these comments makes me want to skip it - it just seems like the same miscreants, new locale. I keep thinking "well, maybe the producers are going to actually try this time to bolster their success story numbers", but it's been pretty horrid since New Orleans, and that was several seasons ago now. I think it might be time to let it go. Honestly, I'll miss this forum more than the show!
