Hmm. I'm not quite sure about this episode.

She didn't name her sister but basically using her as an example of never having an orgasm with her husband felt unfair to me.  And confusing because I thought her sister had incorporated the vibrator into her sex life.  I could swear that's what it sounded like.  But her husband seemed to be surprised?  Crazy they hired Rich Sommer for a no-word part so far.

And there had been a feeling that something happened between Tina and Doug but for them to go back there after he warned Joyce against it felt like they threw continuity out of the window for this ep.

And what a regression for Glenn.

I'm enjoying Doug's attitude about the all the PR - basically no press is bad press. I mean, the point is to move the product. Doug had to have known she'd do her deal to the reporter. Joyce didn't deserve the awful letters, but Doug's attitude was good. I thought she did good on the radio.

Shelly continues to steal scenes even when not being funny. "I didn't know it was going to be this hard." "Most things are."

I didn't like Glenn trashing Doug. He publishes 15 magazines. Successfully. They make money. That's all you're supposed to do.

No, I thought the vibe was just for her on the d/l. However, Joyce could have generalized - I've talked to plenty of wives in stable marriages, etc. The husband looked genuinely hurt. Not every guy is like the radio guys, who deserved what they got. Someone like Shelly's husband doesn't know what he doesn't know. I think Joyce was wrong, but after all the hate mail and the press just raking her, she was ready to unload.

I liked this episode, a lot.

I generally find Joyce frustrating.  I like her.  I want to really like her unreservedly like I do the rest of the characters, bit she gets in her her own way so much.

So it was nice to see her use her big brain for good and taking down those shock jocks in the absolute perfect way... funny, snarking, and is just such a way they couldn't get too defensive.  She got a well deserved win there and it was nice to see.

But before then I wasn't on board with her continual blind spot with reality.  She seems to be operating in this space where she thinks she is still writing her original concept and that is why people are reading the mag, instead of the fact that she's got guys with dicks swinging in it.  Also I am still perplexed as to why it is so hard for her to fathom that maybe Doug knows what he is talking about in this area of the business.

But oh well... Also, Joyce, hon, don't read the alumni magazines.  They are designed to demoralize the alumni who do not reach the pinnacle of success. LOL.

I knew Doug and Tina had a little something-something.  I just did not believe the show would go there this early or even go there at all.  I will say I loved their scene work.  Idara Victor and Jake Johnson have some really nice on screen chemistry.  Not in the romantic sense -- altho that is there too -- but in just the actor sense.  I liked all their little affirming looks throughout the episode, if you hadn't already got it, you now know Dough and Tina have a bond.  And finally both admitting each other was right but in different ways.  Also, that kiss was kinda fire.  Not gonna lie!

The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Richie storyline.  I am not sure what is going on there.  Is that guy supposed to be an Andy Warhol-esque figure?

The Bambi bombs keep coming.  The party up in the hills and then the murders started.  Ha! Not the Mansons, but now you have to wonder ...

Part of it strikes me as just derivative drama - there has to be conflict with the characters. However, that's not really true. There's plenty of drama to be mined getting the magazine off the ground as kind of legit porn; in the Playboy sphere, if you will. It's also TPTBs wanting to have their cake in bed. Writing-wise Doug has been 100% behind Minx since the start, almost really despite Joyce. It's not a knock on Joyce because it's her content that's being read. And that's great validation for her ideas. Which they also wrote. They have them essentially at odds for no reason.
