WatchrTina August 8, 2014 Share August 8, 2014 Frank assumed Claire "sought comfort" with someone else during the war. I'm betting he's projecting. I'm betting Frank sought comfort from someone during the war and would like to think that Claire did too so he doesn't have to feel guilty about it. 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-272660
peacefrog August 8, 2014 Author Share August 8, 2014 True. He did quickly assume that the ghost was enamored of Claire or had some connection to her. I don't think a husband who is secure in his relationship would think that. He did seem reasonably sure it was a ghost, right? Frank does seem at other times like he is struggling with something. absnow54 August 8, 2014 Share August 8, 2014 I thought it was a nice subtle tie in where Frank assumes the mysterious ghost was a soldier that Claire had treated, and then, at the end of the episode, after Claire has treated Jamie, she refers to him as soldier. It kind of foreshadowed the journey Claire was about to take. I do suspect that Frank sought comfort during the war. Claire implies that he lost a lot of men behind the lines and that it troubled him, and it was also established that both used physical intimacy to solve their problems. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-272900

Whew, I wasn't the only one. Unfortunately, I have seen this behavior in real life, so the writer and the actor came off quite life like, almost eerily so. I don't know what it was exactly, or at what point (will have to watch again) where I said to myself, I don't like this guy ... at all. ::giggle:: 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-272923
WaltersHair August 18, 2014 Share August 18, 2014 I've developed something of a terrible crush on the actor that plays Frank. I know this is going to be a huge problem going forward. 1 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-299566
nyxy August 19, 2014 Share August 19, 2014 (edited) LOL. I'm in a bad way myself, Walter's Hair, and now that you point it out, I see that no good will come of it!. I go for these tortured souls much more than I do for the sunny & blithe ones. On screen, that is. Frank looks like he's suffered and also that he's kept his pain to himself. That's a winning formula in my book. I've seen the actor in so many shows! Wish I could remember which ones. WaltersHair August 19, 2014 Share August 19, 2014 (edited) I've seen the actor in so many shows! Wish I could remember which ones. just watch The Honourable Woman. That's all you need to do. Edited for topic. Yes, it's entirely this actor's fault for making Frank far more sympathetic than I think he's meant to be. And for that I am quite grateful. WaltersHair August 28, 2014 Share August 28, 2014 It's official. Tobias Menzies has ruined Outlander for me. I'll keep watching, but my heart won't be in it. "Woe betide" Mr. Randall indeed. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-327270
nyxy August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 (edited) Am behind by one episode but your words strike fear into my heart, Walter's Hair! I hope he isn't gone. I think he is not just beautiful but interesting- and while the whippersnapper who seems to be paired with Claire is serious eye candy, he's too young and innocent- looking for me- . Frank on the other hand clearly has had a past which makes him mucho hot IMO! I do hope he's still around in the show. OY OT: Thank you for the reco about The Honourable Woman- I've been seeing that film referenced here and there and it might be on Netflix I think- if so, I will totally check it out. The Honourable Woman is a miniseries, not a movie. It's still airing in the US. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-332122
Elsinore August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Tobias Menzies is my new favourite tv person. You don't want to know how many nightmares The Honourable Woman caused me. But mostly the yellow sweater did. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-332570

WaltersHair September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 Am behind by one episode but your words strike fear into my heart, Walter's Hair! I hope he isn't gone I didn't mean it as any spoiler or misdirection. It just stands to reason that as long as Claire is in the past, he won't be on screen. And so far his alter ego is a very, very bad man. And not a good way ;) Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-339442
nyxy September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 (edited) Oh good...I hadn't seen episode 3 when I posted and assumed something bad had happened to him in that episode. I was relieved when I actually did catch up. I hope he stays protected and safe in the 20th century. Poor sweet man. The more I see of these men in the 18th century the more I like Frank. They are immature idiots, irrespective of their biological age (I am looking at you Dougal). I would so much rather have Frank on my screen! They could be crosscutting between Claire in the 18th century and Frank in the 20th, but they've chosen not to do that. I want Frank to be a major player in the series but am reconciling myself to the possibility that he isn't. :sigh.: On the other hand, would they do that to such a fine actor? He has to come back in... and I hope as Frank rather than as Jack. Walter's Hair: And so far his alter ego is a very, very bad man. And not a good way ;) LOL. I was thinking that Jack Randall is an ancestor of Frank but not necessarily an alter-ego. In those 18th century scenes, I'm busy speculating who Claire's ancestors might be- in Frank's case we seem to know already, which is helpful. nyxy September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 (edited) HBO's Rome and Game Of Thrones are another 2 he's been in. Aha - thanks so much! *Rome* might be the one; it's been so long since I watched it. I think a rewatch is in my immediate future. Haven't seen *Games of Thrones* but I'm going to have to now, knowing he's in it! I know a really simple way to find out! (<--- clickable) Thanks so much, pestilentia. I did check IMDB when I got interested in the character, but my problem is that my horrible memory can't hold on even to the titles of shows I've watched. I do remember seeing Persuasion and a few episodes of Foyle's War- and Rome. All historical. Don't remember noticing him in those then but I probably did subconsciously. With the crazy bingewatching I do now on Netflix and youtube I think my memory is in freefall. It's the same feeling of having a word on the tip of your tongue. WaltersHair September 11, 2014 Share September 11, 2014 Came to say how happy I am that Frank has been included via flashback. "Come back to me, Claire Randall." was haunting. TM is so dishy. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-368306
AnnaMayWong April 2, 2016 Share April 2, 2016 Perhaps, Frank's WWII interrogating techniques were in similar vein to that of 1740s Black Jack. And, at this time, this 'other' aspect of Frank rests beneath his usual psychological demeanor. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/12615-frank-randall/#findComment-2109616
