Paloma March 17, 2021 Share March 17, 2021 This has a similar concept as Osmosis, a French series I watched on Netflix in 2019. It looks like The One may be more focused on the murder mystery than on the implications of this technology for human relationships (the latter would be more interesting to me), but for now I am in. The best part of this episode for me was the opening scenes when they showed the striking auditorium/theater where Rebecca made her presentation, because I immediately recognized it as being in the last place we visited before the pandemic--Tenerife in the Canary Islands. We stayed in an apartment a few blocks from the theater for a month in fall 2019. We were there to babysit our granddaughter while our daughter was working with a dance company. The theater is an amazing place both outside and inside, and it brought back happy memories of this trip, which was also the last time we saw our daughter and granddaughter. 3 Link to comment

The most interesting thing to me was the divorce rate spike. It makes sense that people in unhappy marriages would jump to find a way out, but it's also interesting (and not entirely surprising, sadly) that people in happy relationships can't help wondering if there's someone even better out there. I also find the idea of a (presumably) bisexual woman thinking she'd be matched to a man and ending up matched to a woman instead interesting. I guess the writers didn't consider all that stuff flashy enough for a whole series. So far this kind of feels like a stretched-out Black Mirror episode. This ep was a little disjointed at times and it felt like there were a lot of threads to follow, but it's interesting enough that I'll likely finish the eight episodes. 1 Link to comment
Madding crowd March 24, 2021 Share March 24, 2021 Another book I read turned into a Netflix series. I like the storylines of the different matches but I’m wondering if they will change a lot from the book. Link to comment
