I can see Emory as being a tad bit gender neutral - I guess they are just going with a trend.  They didn't know the gender so they picked out names that they liked?

They are definitely fond of babies.

Catching up on Season 5 and I just watched Ep4, the back house to a house they previously renovated (not sure if that was featured on  a previous season?). I really liked the quirkiness of the mismatched wood planks on the wall, but it may feel oppressive after a bit. Not sure also about the kitchen located in the porch (no entry space at all) and the choice also of putting shelves in front of the windows in the kitchen. Very little storage in the house altogether, and it is a small house to have two bedrooms. I think it's set up to be a vacation rental, more than a full time housing.

I'm currently watching what I guess is season 5 - the latest season?  I guess they have been able to buy more expensive homes due to the show and most of them seemed destined to be vacation rentals.  They aren't even doing open houses anymore and I kind of miss them.

I love Galveston so I definitely treasure each of these episodes.

They are advertising a new series where they buy a hotel and renovate it - not sure when it is supposed to start but definitely looking forward to it (I see it advertised on YouTube TV).

Tomorrow (4/9) is the last episode of the Inn renovation.  A new series begins next week.

If you're on Instagram, the Restoring 1900 account has photos from the Cordray's 10th recent wedding anniversary celebration.

Watching the new season where they are renovating their new to them home - and it's a big one that was at one point converted to a triplex.  I wouldn't make the choices they do - devoting so much of the house to children's place spaces - but I never had that luxury when my child was younger - perhaps I would have made different choices.

I'm just curious about what they are going to do with their beautifully restored home that Ashley just had to have after they renovated it - I guess 3 children later it just wasn't big enough!  I hope they are able to sell it - it was a gorgeous restoration.

Re Michael's mother's house reno

Mother and daughter in law and conflicting design choices

I keep imagining his mother saying to her friends..."you know what that bitch of a daughter in law wanted to do...."😄

I love this show and just finished watching the hotel eps.

I wonder if/when they are/will extend themselves too far--vacation rentals, regular real estate sales, that misbegotten "wedding" venue space (where do they do their wood working now?), the stupid rolled ice cream thing (is that really a thing?  I'd never heard of rolled ice cream before and I don't like the looks of it), and now this hotel.

Some of their renos are definitely more successful than others, but I do like the fact that they're saving these old houses.  My main beef is when they install "art work" that looks to me like it would be hard to remove (or at least a pain in the ass) if the buyer didn't like it.

In one episode, they installed wooden pieces shaped like old tiles they found for the kitchen backsplash, and that strikes me as insane.  Their refinishing of shiplap wherever they find it is pretty much OK with me because the old wood is generally lovely, but when they leave vestiges of old paint I wonder how long a buyer could live with that.

Anyway, a new season is supposed to be starting soon, and I'm looking forward to it.  I hope more people will be posting here!

Not a fan of old paint left on. Also the wooden tiles as a backsplash. The worst was the bathroom tiles saying This Is The Place. I wonder if the buyers covered it with a rug. Lol But for the most part I like Ashley and her designs.

"This is the place"--oh my.  The place to what?

I agree, not a good idea.

Her other design idea, which she seems unable to get enough of, is those upholstered pieces she puts up against the wall behind banquettes.  They don't look good and seem like they'd be really uncomfortable.  In their hotel, I noticed they added big square cushions (they look like seat cushions) in front of the upholstered things.

I think they might work if she made them more fully upholstered, adding a really thick layer of padding?  And I notice they didn't put those things in their own houses!
