Uh oh, Isla is messing with Ruby’s memories

Is it dumb to be skeptical that a White girl would have a Black girl as an imaginary friend?

Well, the supportive Black bestie that exists to prop up the main character's self-esteem is a pretty common trope in movies and TV shows.

I can't believe that Kyla Pratt is 36 yo!

    I love Ruby’s hair.

Ooooh, not Ruby roasting Roarke's white suits, lol.

Good intentions aside, Elena does have a bad habit of making decisions for people instead of having frank conversations with them. It's happened twice with people she cares about, and it's ended up hurting them and making them distrustful of her.

I really want those KBJ pajamas to be real, so I can buy them. Doing a search was not getting me very far. This was all  found and it's from the UK!

The show needs to develop a line of merch!

Clothing and accessories with quotes and nicknames from the show, some of that fundraiser candy, a recipe book with contributions from Abbott faculty and staff, and of course those KBJ pajamas!

Selfish is such a loaded word for some people. I can imagine Janine's mom calling her selfish if Janine didn't do what she wanted. I hope  Janine knows she can do better than Tyriq.

Yes! Manipulative people will wield that word like a club to get people to to what they want. I suspect Janine is sensitive to being called selfish.

Now, Ava truly is selfish, but I'm glad that she and Janine had a chance to talk about it. As a recovering people pleaser, she definitely needs to spend some time exploring her own needs and desires.

I was on Maurice's side in his conversation with Janine.  Sure, they hadn't dated that long but that was a dick move for her to have Gregory--his friend--at the breakup meal.

I don't think Janine asked him to come. I think Gregory insisted on coming.

  5. My favorite part of the episode was Jos' speech to her mother about the weight of fear being lifted off of her since she'd acquired the power, and the freedom her younger sister would grow up with.

Ah! Shit, I wish I could know that freedom for myself.

And I love how they portray the receipt of The Power as an orgasmic experience. You can just see them vibrate with this new experience of themselves and their possibilities.

And, OF COURSE the manosphere/red pill sorts would take umbrage and coalesce around their fear and hatred of women.

  6. The look on Melissa's face at the end when she saw Jacob's bent spoon! 😆

It was nice to see the gang rally around and be supportive of Janice's solo trip, and great to see her set a firm boundary with her mom. Janine really has grown a lot this season, hasn't she.

I thought Taraji was short, but, DAMN, if she didn't tower over Janine. I noticed that the colors in her pants echoed the colors in Janice's dress.

Ava definitely recognized that she was outmatched, lol.

Which are there more of -- shows/movies about people with super powers?  Or shows/movies starring Toni Collette?

I feel like I've been seeing a lot of Toni lately, lol.

I've been watching this on Tubi.

What the hell is a "social media chef"? Do they have actual culinary training or are they just people who cook and film themselves and post it? Does "chef" and "cook" mean the same thing now?

I should post videos of myself on the toilet and call myself a "social media shitter".

Honestly, you might be onto something! A podcast from your toilet. Ya gotta have a gimmick!

  9. The uprising of the Arabic women was powerful and exhilarating! It reminded me of what is actually going on in Iran right now.

Tunde, Tunde, Tunde...sigh. He so means well, but seems so hapless. First, he gets his journalist friend injured, thoughtlessly unloads her suffering to the internet, which changes her life for the worst, then has the audacity to ho to her for advice about his CNN opportunity - which he got because he uploaded her suffering to the internet! To add insult to injury, it was her story! Tunde is a likable enough guy, and a bit of an opportunist. He's like a lot of folk, just bumbling through life, unintentionally harming others and somehow benefitting.

And through his time in Saudi Arabia, he was lucky to have Nourah as his guide and protector. She was so very smart, strong, resourceful and capable. The scene and conversation in the apartment was excellent. When Tunde offered to use his connections to help get her out, I though she was gonna laugh in his face. Up to that point he'd been pretty dependent on her.

Loving the series so far, so looking forward to the next episode.

It did feel a little odd when later she told Barbara that she had "offered solutions" to the mother. As far as I understand we didn't see a portion of that meeting, we saw the whole thing, and she definitely didn't offer any solutions other than vague things about "working as a team." She did nothing wrong, I just think that lack of specificity is going to get any parent on the defensive (and in this case, offensive).

I think that was part of the mom's issue too, that Janine didn't get to the point quickly enough and was wasting her very limited time.

Quinta is great on Abbott Elementary. Don't sleep on that show, it's great!

It's so AMAZING! We love Abbott Elementary at our house.

Quinta really is a versatile actress. Check her out on the first season of A Black Lady Sketch Show.

I always worry when a book I love is adapted as a movie or series, because it's often disappointing, but at least this first episode is really well done.

I thought the first episode was well done, too. Looking forward to see the rest. Makes me want to reread the book as well.

I hope a lot of people watch this, I can't wait to enjoy some juicy convos in here.

Lordy, if bone broth is responsible for Gwyneth Paltrow’s cadaverous appearance on that podcast, ‘twill be my pleasure never to indulge.  And of course Alyssa is all about Goop.

Oof! Gwyneth did look gaunt and dry. Not healthy at all.

she thinks because she's pretty, she can say anything she wants and people will love it.  nope

I think that's why she does it, for the contrast of a pretty girl who says vulgar things. Subverting expectations.

Just STFU, Allysa. Unlike others here, I’ve never liked her. She seems likable because she doesn’t screech and isn’t angry like her predecessor. But she does the same thing.

You can sit at my table. I've never liked her either. Sure, she's so "pleasant" and "lovely". However, she was a collaborator in a corrupt administration. She holds the same views as her predecessor, just puts a more genteel face on them. The deflection and whataboutism and outright lies continue.

Please tell me I wasn't the only one who got teary eyed when Janine and Ayesha had their argument. And when besties Barbara and Melissa had their spat, I got so upset. Don't break up the band, ladies!

I found that scene very authentic and uncomfortable. The tension and hurt felt so real and fairly radiated through the screen. Both actresses were so good. What really sold it for me was the avoiding of eye contact and awkward, jerky movements of barely suppressed anger and pain.

I had jury duty a while back and it doesn't make me mad about the low pay; what made me mad was I sat in a BIG room for 8 hours with 400 other people and they NEVER called my name.  I was SO bored!  So 2 years later when I was called, I made sure I had PLENTY of reading material and my name was the very FIRST name called.  LOL!  And I was on a medical malpractice trial for 3 weeks.

Yeah, I always make sure to take a book.

I don't really mind jury duty. Back when I was still working, I thought of the wait  as paid reading time.

I've been called to jury duty many times, but actually seated on a jury twice, and served on an actual trial once. That one time was really interesting, getting to see our justice system at work and be part if it.
