  1. These were posted on Diana's Facebook as well. They are NOT pictures from filming, so they are actually Rick and Sophie rather than Roger and Bree. Diana also reminded people that it took many tries to get Jamie's hair color to a shade that would work for filming in all levels of light, so this is probably not the final color for Bree's hair.
  2. I've read the Wilderness Series. Definitely worth reading and a good way to pass the time during our hiatus. I also learned a lot about the war of 1812!
  3. The boy is definitely Sun Elk's son. I didn't go back and look at the exact words, but it's something about the boy having Ian's 'spirit' or something. It seemed weird to me that Ian could 'claim' a kid that wasn't his, but that is how I interpreted it.
  4. Friday Night Lights was one of my favorite shows and I started watching Nashville entirely because of Connie Britton. If anyone is looking for book suggestions for Droughtlander, I've got a series to recommend that I just started re-reading. I even went to the used book store to buy paperbacks, because I think I'll want to come back to it again. The best thing is the series is complete. No waiting for the next book! The series is by Jacqueline Carey and the first book is Kushiel's Dart. There are three trilogies (and they're long, so lots to keep you busy). They're more fantasy than historical fiction, though the fictionalized world is centered in what would be France and the history mimics a lot of our world history. The first trilogy is focused on Phedre, who is trained to be a courtesan in a society that values their courtesans in the same way Companions are valued in Whedon's Firefly universe. If you're not squeamish about sex scenes, it's a great epic tale with a heroine and hero every bit as lovable as Claire and Jamie. Like Outlander, they are told in first person narrative by the main female character. I also love the way the stories are paced. A LOT happens in these stories, and unlike Gabaldon's books we are not always made to hear every excruciating detail of it. There are no single days that go on for a hundred or more pages! The second trilogy focuses mainly on the foster-son of the heroine and hero of the first series (and they are there as well). The third trilogy takes place one or two generations later and focuses on one of the descendents of characters in the second trilogy. I've read them all and I'll read them again. If you're looking for something to tide you over, I highly recommend these books!
  5. They figure out some way to have one part of the ceremony with one of them and another part with the other (or something like that). One of them even cuts off the tip of his finger (like the other one) so that Jamie can't tell them apart. I could go look up the details but I'm feeling a little lazy right now. :)
  6. I loved, loved, loved that moment. It said so much with just a few words. You could really tell that things had shifted in Jamie and Roger's relationship.
  7. Bringing this over from the Ask the Bookreaders thread: I too and interested in how the future scenes will be incorporated into the season. Some of the articles make it sound like both Jamie and Claire will be aged up for season 2, but we don't see a future Jamie in book 2, right?
  8. That lists includes characters from season one. Didn't we see Uncle Lamb in a flashback early in season one?
  9. This is picking up on an old discussion thread, but I thought I'd add that the sequel to the Pillars of the Earth miniseries, War Without End, is also fairly recently available on Netflix. I watched that earlier this summer. Those series are based on the books of the same name by Ken Follett, who is also known for writing more contemporary spy novels. Both of the books are even better than the miniseries. Great reads for the hiatus. I've read the whole Donati series and agree that the first one drags a bit. Frankly I just don't find Elizabeth and Daniel as compelling a couple as Jamie and Claire. That said, I'm rereading the series now and really enjoying the later books.
  10. I'd like to see this too. They do look enough alike that Claire thinks that it's Jack, even though she 'knows' he's dead. If he's not played by Tobias Menzies, they're going to have to find someone that looks very similar. Also, I just assume that they're going to want to keep him onscreen and as Jack Randall is in the story less, this is a way to give a big name actor more time onscreen. Of course, I don't have any experience with trying to play that many characters, so I'm not sure how challenging it would be for him.
  11. I'm not sure if information from interviews is considered spoilery, but just in case: I'm in the camp that felt uncomfortable during the strapping scene (as I expect I was 'supposed' to) but I think that the talk they had the next day helped me see it from his perspective. I think they were both trying to understand something that was outside of their experience and we were reading the scene from her point of view. We didn't get to see his processing the same way we got to see Claire's (and we're probably likely to sympathize with her anyway, being from relatively similar times in history). That might that makes him look more insensitive. Just a thought. I also went back and forth on the scene back at Leoch, but I like the idea of it being rough sex without the vocabulary of safe words. It is a weird scene though.
  12. I totally agree. I loved when Claire was saying it was her fault Jamie had to come to the oathtaking, and Murtagh just says, "It is." And Rupert and Angus were so funny the whole episode. Another favorite moment was when Claire was worried about going back in the castle after hitting Dougal and Jamie was just so impressed that she took him down. I also really, really loved the scenes at the end with Dougal and Claire when Geordie was dying and later when he thanked her. I like the way they're showing the complexities in his character.
  13. I loved that book for the same reason. Bree and Roger were totally cute when they were courting. :)
  14. I forgot about that part of Jamie's wedding. That would be great symmetry.
  15. I think it was 1968, but definitely late 1960s. I'd check the exact year, but I'm too lazy to get up and look it up.
  16. I didn't even make the connection until I read something here or heard an interview with Ron, that since the book was in first person Cait would be in virtually every scene. That's intense for an hour-long show.
  17. The first thing I thought when I saw those shoes was the Wizard of Oz. I totally assumed it was intentional.
  18. I agree with this. I actually think that it's a very typical for a 20th century woman to worry about her weight and appearance. It's an interesting juxtaposition because I've never felt like Claire's looks are what attracts Jamie. Or at least that his view of what is attractive is different than hers. I also wonder if given that they have been in many different places and situations, some of which have not always been bountiful in terms of food, if he feels any degree of pride at being able to provide for her well enough to fill out her 'bonny fat arse.'
  19. I haven't listened to the 1.03 podcast yet, but I'm reluctant to now that I know his wife is with him again. I love some of the insights about costuming but I'm also really interested in the rest of the production, and she interrupts him way too much. Hopefully someone will figure that out soon and make a tactful suggestion.
  20. The same spoiler came up twice in the podcast. Ron actually mentioned it first and then Terry mentioned it again later. I tried to find the times in my podcast so I could say what to avoid, but I'm having trouble finding it now. I'll keep looking! As far as listening to it, I'm assuming that if you download the podcast you can listen to it using any media player. I also was able to listen to it from the website on my phone.
  21. I like all the speculation and theories about what these books are about. I'm curious what DG would say if she were asked what they were about. Or maybe she has answered that somewhere that I'm not aware of.
  22. Athena, thanks. I knew that a bunch of people had migrated over here, but I hadn't really checked it out too much myself. I'll have to pop over at some point to say hi.
  23. Yep, that's me, Petunia! I was pretty sure that was you. It's cool to be back in a forum talking TV again. Haven't done that since the GG days. :)
  24. I think this is where the episode titles were posted. Based on the episode eight title that Petunia shared above, , I'm wondering if the mid season break will happen right after they return to Leoch after Claire and Jamie are married. I feel like the scene where Jamie beats Claire could be balanced nicely by the scene where he gives her the ring once they get back to the castle. I haven't been able to think of anything else that title could mean. Any other thoughts?
