  1. Kate Bishop has got GUTS. She went up against Yelena AND Kingpin in the same hour and lived to tell the tale.

Did I cry when Clint was telling Yelena about Natasha? Yes. A lot. Maybe you can blame moonsickness for some of it but, honestly, that got me good. I think the relationship between Clint and Nat was told very well throughout the MCU even if it wasn't the focus. Hell, in the first Avengers movie the thing that changed everything for Nat while she was working was Coulson just saying 'Barton's been compromised.' Their connection has been touched on every time and I really loved seeing Yelena see that Nat loved and trusted Clint so much that she told him all about her little sister.

"Is this what heroes do? Arrest their mothers on Christmas?" Uh, yeah, Mom... if you're a criminal. Kate just looking at her while Eleanor goes on about how Kate can't cut it in 'the real world' because there are consequences while Kate is in the middle of dealing with all of those consequences. While she got beat up by the Kingpin to help her mother... cripes Eleanor, way to miss the fucking point.

Armond VII and Jack was a ridiculous scene that I loved way way way too much. "Mom told me I would get your wine collection." "You're too young to appreciate my wine." "I won't always be." "Remember when you peed your pants in the Hamptons? I do. Everyone does." Holy crap. Holy crap. That was just too fucking ridiculous but it's just one of those things that flesh out this weird world they're on.

I, too, loved the nod to the Rockefeller owl. And the call back to the Imagine Dragons guy and that they went to see Maroon 5 and Kate was legit happy for him but still had to keep him from shooting her.

No way is Kingpin dead. He'll be back. Maya will be dealing with him and we better BETTER get Matt Murdock in there because I want my Hell's Kitchen street fighter back goddammit!!

The long tracking shot of Kate and Yelena's struggle through the building... I love them. I am happy to see that a Black Widow and a Hawkeye will continue in some form.

Clint bringing Kate and Lucky home was the absolute topper. There was just no way he was leaving her alone at Christmas.

Laura being Agent 19. I think I will agree with others that she had the Mockingbird title and retired because I also agree that AoS' Bobbi Morse was perfect. I can happily live with Clint and Laura/Mockingbird winding up together while this universe's Bobbi went on a different romantic path. Plus, Lord, she kicked ass.

And then we got the whole 'I Can Do This All Day' song.

Well done, Hawkeye fam. Well done.

  2. Val told Yelena that Clint was responsible for Nat's death and she'd want to do something about that if she (Val) were her (Yelena.) BUT I can full on No Prize this as Eleanor's wanting Clint dead (for her own reasons) gave Yelena the chance to actually do something about it. She took the job because it gave her access to kill Clint and 'avenge' her sister.

I'm just waiting for Yelena to realize... oh wait, Val isn't necessarily to be trusted.

  3. Maya's father, according to Kazi, 'always put the men first' which suggests to me that he was beloved by those that were lower level. I'm going to speculate that this is not something that Kingpin wants in the long run because when it comes down to it, his people need to be loyal to HIM and not his lieutenants. However, using Ronin to eliminate a beloved figure means Kingpin can use that anger to his advantage.

Kingpin is a chess player and has no problem sacrificing others for his gain.

Now then... did I say "Oh My God" out loud at the end and scare my cats a bit this morning? Yes. Yes I did. Speculation is one thing but there's really something to be said for this one to actually be true. This really goes a long way to set up up Echo's mini. Well done on that score.

This did shift me from really fucking wanting Charlie Cox' Daredevil to show up to really fucking needing it. To be fair, I'm trying my best to mitigate expectations because I don't think it fits in with this particular show as it stands. So, yeah... but Kingpin's appearance (along with Feige's comments) I feel assures us that Matt Murdock will be appearing in one of these Disney+ shows and I love that.

Yelena is terrific. I'm not sure there's much time for her and Clint to straighten things out completely but I really need for them to be able to talk. Clint needs to tell her what happened. Yelena needs to know. And holy crap did I love the beginning with Yelena getting snapped and then back and the way that played out. Very cool.

    Really loving this series.

Oooh a very OLTL Hallmark Christmas this year (I know 2 is barely a dent in the amount of Christmas movies they make but still.)

It was on at my Mom's the other night. I was like 'Hey... is that Viki?' but then guess what? Matt Walton (*sob* Eli!) was in it too!

The Captain America/Steve Rogers play was hilarious.  And had enough references that I choose to believe one of the Avengers or someone close to them has been writing a tell all book or leaking all of these inside lines, situations, etc.  Maybe it was Tony trying to impress someone.  Or Thor after too many meads.  Or since this play focuses on Steve, maybe it was all Bucky and Sam!

I have no doubt in my mind that it was Luis because he would absolutely put Scott into the Battle of New York.

Bucky and Sam would troll Steve, they wouldn't be doing a tell all anything to anyone. They both love the guy way too much to trust anyone else with his story or giving him all the shit. Sam, however, would sing 'I can do this all daaaaaay' at Bucky JUST to annoy the shit out of him while Bucky frantically looks to book a flight to Wakanda to get away from it.

I guess I’m not really in the mood to take a lighthearted view of NY cops. I actually rewatched a bit of the Battle of New York scene in Avengers 1 and I didn’t mind the cops doing their best there, but why would they be LARPing? And let’s not forget Grills (a firefighter, I know) straight up stole that costume from a crime scene.

It’s also kinda amazing the costume fits Clint perfectly and Kate, who’s smaller than Clint, and Grills, who’s clearly taller than Clint.

    Unstable molecules!!

But yeah, Grills stole that shit flat out. Clint getting it back is clearly protecting his own damn self and I get that but now I'm beginning to wonder what the hell is with that suit that it makes people do flat out illegal things.

All that being said, I really did get a kick out of the whole LARPing thing.

All those years of being around explosions have understandably taken their toll.

I thought they showed that very nicely with the quick montage of explosions and physical trauma that Clint has been around and through.

So I think this was a good start. I loved the credits showing Kate's development in her various skills in Aja's style. That was a super nice touch for comic book fans. I also really liked how they showed the Battle of New York from a completely different perspective. That was great and you can absolutely understand why young Kate fixated on Hawkeye and the bow and arrow (to start with anyway.)

"I can do this all daaaaaaaaay!" Rogers: The Musical is exactly what I hoped for. But I was not expecting the full on heartstring tug when Natasha dance-fought across the stage and the music and sound disappeared and Clint was just... looking at her. I really love that Natasha's place in Clint's life is remembered by everyone but mostly him.

So that dude who asked for a selfie at the urinals was a tourist, right? New Yorkers are famous for not giving a shit about celebrities but... Broadway right before Christmas? That's totally an out of towner who does not follow proper protocol.

I'm so far glad that Lucky/Pizza Dog is just a stray because his arrival into Clint's life in the Fraction book is a bit on the traumatizing side. Although it certainly did it's job painting the Tracksuit Mafia as assholes. Right now, they're just the average crime group. We will see where that goes. I mean... sure they did successfully storm the black market auction but from there? We will see, indeed.

  8. As much as I wish that Kamala were a mutant, she's canonically not. She got stuck in the Terrigen cocoon and came out empowered with embiggen and such. I think I rather WOULD resent them changing that now but I also don't know exactly how they'll explain what an Inhuman is to those who aren't comic readers and didn't watch Agents of Shield.

Maybe they'll just refer to her as 'enhanced' the way Wanda and Pietro were. If they ever decide to explain the Inhumans they can do that but there remains the question of what her powers are even going to be at this point, too.

I wonder if they will keep all their gimmicks from the original series, like Jean's fainting, Gambit talking in third person or Storm's overdramatic announcements of her powers.

I mean, I would prefer if they cut back on ALL of that.

I hate Hocus Pocus. There, I said it. I don't know what that says about me, but I got it off my chest. I'm sick of seeing it everywhere.

My sister finally got around to watching it last year and absolutely hated it. So she has no patience for it come October. We've got friends and family who love it and want to make it a tradition but she refuses.

Which is fine. I like the movie but I don't need to make it an October tradition or anything and I'm certainly not going to force something she hates on her. I did come up with making Practical Magic an October tradition and that went over amazing so that's what we do.

Neither of us like horror either so October is an iffy month for themed movie nights. She's just happy hockey is back so that's what's usually on anyway.

It's leaving Netflix today, so I finally watched Love Actually, and I would like those two hours of my life back.  Holy shit.  Most people I know hate it, and my friend who loves it also loves Titanic, so we are clearly not into the same films, so I don't know why I'm surprised I found it to be rubbish, but I really can't believe I just wasted a morning on that film.

Or that the film wasted such a great cast.  The performances were terrific - well, other than Keira Knightley, who I think is terrible in this, but in fairness she is given absolutely nothing to do other than look pretty - but most of the storylines are so utterly ridiculous that I nearly threw things at the TV.  Colin Firth and the Portuguese woman?  The little kid obsessed with love stories running through the airport?  That cretin who lands in Wisconsin and promptly falls into a fivesome with four hot women?  The guy who professes his love to his best friend's new wife?  The prime minister with a staffer 15 years his junior?  Are you kidding me with this shit?  Am I supposed to actually like any of these guys?

The Emma Thompson/Alan Rickman relationship was well done, and I'd have happily watched a film about that because it was realistic.  And I love Laura Linney's character stepping away to freak out in glee that she's finally going to get it on with her long-time crush, and the prime minister grooving to the Pointer Sisters.  But the rest?  Hard pass.

My brother in law was shocked SHOCKED I TELL YOU when I said I hated this movie. I watched it with him and my sister one year and then the next Christmas came around and this movie came up and I was like 'um, I'd rather not, no. It's not good.'

    SHOCKED!

He was like "I don't understand how you, a person who loves stories, hates this movie!"

I said "The stories are shit!!" It says a LOT that the only relationships I was remotely invested in where Bill Nighy and his manager, and Liam Neeson and his step-son. THAT'S IT! And gods above and below the constant body-shaming is unbelievable.

So... yeah. Look, I have irrational love for problematic movies. I know this. I'm not going to get on anyone's case for loving this movie. But I will fight back when someone suggests I need to love a movie that I do not like at all.

  12. Civil War is not my favorite but the Marvel Creative Committee had to be put down and if this is what it took, so be it. Fiege wrestling control away from fucking Perlmutter was necessary and, frankly, Quesada and Bendis were marching to his tune with regards to storylines at the time.

I hope die-hard Sesame Street fans won't figuratively (or literally) eviscerate me, but here goes:

Even as a kid, I thought "Sing" was an agonizingly banal ditty and I still don't like it. It's been covered by a wide variety of singers, and not a single one has created a version I don't hate.

    Sorry.

    Wow.

I haven't thought about that song in YEARS. It's funny because I'm not sure I knew that was from Sesame Street although I certainly heard it all the time back in the 70s. Really, though, Sesame Street had songs that were way better than that, which, yes is rather treacly and banal.

Give me 'C is for Cookie' or 'Rubber Ducky' or 'One of These Things' any day over 'Sing.'

Or 'Mary Had a Bicycle' because that one's awesome.

  14. "And so, the end is near and now I face the final curtain..."

Well, this has indeed been a long strange trip. How many more musical references can I make that have nothing to do with country?

I would say that the majority of the top ten make sense. They may not be to my personal preference but they make sense... number one does make sense even if I hate it with the tormented passion of 1000 lakes of fire. I get it, though. However... Jason Aldean and Eric Church? What?!

Bruce Springsteen has songs that would fit on this list more than "Springsteen" fits into the top ten. (Seriously, 'Sad Eyes' would fit into this list better than some that made it. Or the entirety of 'Western Stars' and I don't say that just because of the name or the horse on the cover.) Hell, country artists have covered a lot of Springsteen songs, y'know? But they're not wrong in that it's weird that Church got in the top ten for a song about a full on legit ROCK legend.

"El Paso" "King of the Road" "Folsom Prison Blues" "Crazy" -- yes to all of those. God, "Crazy" is just so good. The singing... the writing... fuck.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is one of those that some people just don't get. This, along with "The Chair," is a song my mother's friend never got. "He's DEAD, Susan! That's the point!" (It goes hand in hand with 'It was a pick up line, Susan!!')

"I Will Always Love You" is a tricky one. I think the first time I really was exposed to it with any kind of understanding was in 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' and I feel that it perfectly encapsulated the bitter-sweetness of the song. Whitney's version is bombastic and it's powerful as fuck and I swing back and forth between which version I prefer if I'm being honest. All that being said... Dolly's top should be 'Coat of Many Colors.'

That being said, I'm going to get salty about John Denver again. Remember that video 'Country Forever' with all the big big stars and they did a medley and CGI'd everyone into wheat fields and porches and downtown Nashville and virtual country roads? What was that medley made up of? "Take Me Home, Country Roads" "I Will Always Love You" and "On the Road Again."

Two of those songs are represented on this list and the other one ISN'T.

    Salty forever.

  15. I liked it too. I've been binging to catch up... basically, this is a show that I kept going 'I really need to check it out' and then after the Emmys I was like 'Why have I been putting this off?' So I dove in.

This episode was surreal. It was Theatre of the Absurd. It felt oddly fitting after the Man City loss.

Thierry Henry and Gary Lineker providing color commentary throughout also made me laugh. 'Shut up, Theirry Henry!!' And seeing them raise their glasses at the club at the end just put the finishing touch on the absurdity of it all.

He’s always appreciated Jane’s smarts. He was bragging about her accomplishments at the Ultron party.

I loved that bit. Tony and Thor bragging about their respective interests being awesome.

And I always got a kick out of the deleted scene in the gag reel of Thor going 'Pepper smells like porridge.' Because it's just stupid and silly.

To say something positive about the episode...I REALLY appreciated Thor telling Jane that he liked that she was smart, and good looking too. Because usually it is said the other way around. But it would have been good if the line had come earlier in the episode instead of the very end, because that would explain Jane's behaviour a little bit better.

Well, he did call her a genius shortly after meeting her. And she got all flustered over it, which I found pretty spot on. Especially for a woman with several PhDs who was right about an alien invasion and got ignored by everyone.

  18. I related hard to Frigga who put her husband down for a long nap, told her son to do his homework and then went for a wine weekend with her sister.

I don't have a husband or a son... but I do have sisters and the wine weekend... yeah. That's more a daily thing, but still.

This was obviously just a lark but after all of the murderdeath, I appreciated it. I loved the Carol vs Thor knock down drag out. I loved that Carol said no one knew what Stonehenge was for but it was seriously uncool to knock it over. I loved the shriek Thor let out when his hammer came back draped with beads, underwear and graffiti. Jotun!Loki was a hoot. I loved that Jane kind of let things get out of hand a little bit but was the one to get to Heimdall and Frigga when it became more than obvious that Thor wasn't going to slow down for anything less.

It was a fun episode. Was Infinity!Vision/Ultron necessary? Not really. Would this universe result in 'Ultron, we would have words with thee?' Probably not. And it turns into a gigantic 'Exactly HOW did Ultron/Vision actually happen in this universe?' which is the kind of question I don't want to be asking after a super fun and silly episode.
