  1. I liked the first episode well enough and will continue watching, but I need that umbrella the doctor was carrying! It was magnificent and looked like it could possibly cover that whole block in Seattle.
  2. I think he probably sees the character as more related to his own rather than necessarily the same character in a way. Reading the books, you can see why Sidney would be the way he is as the writer based him on his dad-kind and self-deprecating but not terribly exciting. He has two women interested in him, but even that is a bit like a comfortable tale someone would tell about their parents, "My mom was so beautiful a prince himself threw himself at her feet, but she only had eyes for my dad" kind of boasting. When the spoilers mentioned come along, he is still just a nice middle-aged reliable guy whose worse sin is not liking people offering him sherry all the time. In the show, you got a young viral actor who has more appeal hopping off his bike than Mr. Grey with a crop. He can also portray a range of emotions and you have to keep the audience interested. Not everyone is going to care about the romance angle, but plenty are. So that is why I think we are getting Hildy heading off. In the book she is in Grantchester after being in Germany specifically because of the spoiler mentioned, why on earth would she have returned otherwise? It reminds me of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries if you watch it on Netflix. In the book she has a ongoing relationship, but in the show the man was in two episodes and then gone forever. I think Hildy and Amanda are in the show because they are in the books from the start and the adapters are honoring them for the readers, but now Hildy has no reason to be there and Amanda can pop up from time to time for angst purposes but be dropped when they don't need her. Bring on a new girl or keep him without a girl for a bit. I would rather spend a bit more time on just his relationships with his favorite copper and curate. I thought for sure the abused wife was coming up behind her husband to shoot him.
  3. I have read the books and, while they have used the stories from the first book, there have been many changes such as the murderers in some of the stories, most of the motives, no night of Gloria, and no fiancé for Amanda. As to the specific spoiler mentioned on the first page, there is a larger time gap in the books before that occurs. So far, I have really liked the changes they made. The one night stand with Gloria made my jaw drop because it went so off track from the books and now I can't necessarily foresee how the relationship drama will play out.
  4. I liked the part when Jack asked the cabbie why the guys were chasing HIM and the cabbie gave him the perfect wtf look. Seriously, with everything going in, why would he think the cabbie was the one they were interested in? Looks to me like Frain was the with the guy in the very beginning "awakening" the souls and has now broken away. It appears he is tracking the members and waking them, only to end them. He didn't initially kill the girl because she was not responding to the object (sand dollar), so maybe he thought the process had not worked on her. The show's premise reminded me of Being John Malcovich.
  5. One thing I did appreciate is that Korra did not try to flirt with the slacker to get him to join the airbenders. Her yelling at him was not in any way good, but I like the fact that no one would even suggest Korra do anything like flirting to make the guys want to join.
  6. Ethan's dad's storyline is one I don't get. Exactly how long has Ethan been in England? It seems he knows how to contact Ethan, so the "covert" Pinkertons made no sense. As did their actions. We need to be stealth, stealth like walking up to someone, buying them a beer, and handing the shackles we are carrying. The show also made it look like he can control it. Ethan seemed pretty happy they had showed up and then seemed to just wait for the transformation to take place rather than try to fight it.
  7. Sir Malcolm and Miss Ives last conversation of the season was very sweet, the rest was quite the letdown. So the the Master is still out there? Greeeaaat. Still love Dr. F just a little. "You can't stay here!" Yes, the roommate situation is the top concern you need to clear up when your monster comes over to bitch about his job a little bit.
  8. So was that Azula in the ice prison at the end of Earth Queen? The mouth/chin area did not look as old as Zuko, but the snarky evilness matched. Maybe a daughter?
