  1. A very minor cliffhanger. Will anyone remember in a year if TR is cancelled and it doesn't get resolved? But I think renewal is almost certain.
  2. This was the best episode I've seen in awhile. I don't know if I'm lowering the bar or it's getting better, but the last couple of episodes have been good. However, I hate to rain on your parade, but they used a body double in the boxing scene. At times during the scene Nolan was quite a bit thinner and more muscular than reality. I'm sure body doubles are used all the time for these types of scenes. Nolan's getting pretty outspoken. No doubt he'll soon overstep....even more than usual.
  3. Speaking from personal experience (I was a foster child) they couldn't. I had no idea of any records of either the children or the foster parents I lived with, especially as a naïve child. This is just silliness concocted for television, lazy writing. But I guess the idea is that if you did have anyone in your past who you knew had a criminal record, it needed to be revealed on the form. Her mistake was in admitting she knew and didn't disclose. Forgetting or not knowing would have likely been a valid defense if she was ever questioned.
  4. Most of television consists of checking reality at the door -- even reality TV falls into that category, ha. Where there's a writer's room, there's a way. Can't comment on the episode. Haven't watched. Don't care.
  5. Grey's Anatomy started with Grey as a resident. What is she now, retired? As long as they have rookies, the title and concept can live on.
  6. Watch Mr. Confidence (Hawley) end the season on a cliffhanger and then it gets cancelled. Trust is gone.
  7. Ah West's father will be the new captain probably and will be dirty...a rearranged Castle. scenario In Castle, dirty captain gets shot, (and then after interim captain disappears into the ether via budget cuts) love interest gets promoted to Captain. In The Rookie potential love interest non-dirty captain gets shot. Dirty captain gets the job. I'm really seeing Castle parallels all over the place in The Rookie these days. But the bottom line I think is budget cuts. Next week's earthquake. This show seems to be jam-cramming all of its ideas into the last of the season, no doubt as a desperate attempt to save it from cancellation, or maybe because they know they're cancelled and want people's (Hawley's) ideas to get airplay. My dislike for Hawley is completely off the charts. Above. and. beyond.
  8. My assumption is that while Nathan is working on this show, he doesn't often need Michelle in the capacity of managerial person, or whatever she's been to him. At the same time, he wants to keep her in his "sphere" so that when The Rookie is gone, he still has her available, and she doesn't have to seek other work during the down time, etc. etc. Thus, it's a bit of a pay raise for him that she's paid by the studio to be an EP. So it's essentially a way to pay him via paying her retainer. I doubt that she does a whole lot in the capacity. She's not a story editor, for certain, and I doubt she's a financial guru. She probably has some day to day projects she manages or helps others to manage.
  9. I have a feeling this captain killing was a budget cutting move in the hope of renewal. But a show that doesn't mind killing off some of its ensemble really isn't my idea of fun. Back to comedies, I guess ;-). Bad move, show. It really is a huge mistake. Hawley is already being asked, "can we trust you ever again?" The answer is no. I think they thought this would be a big PR move. They were right about that, but in the wrong direction. I can smell the desperation. Strangely now I'm hoping for cancellation and keep and improve WC instead. Would serve 'em right as far as I'm concerned. A Hawley show is never going to be a great show. Ever. No matter who else is in it. If TR is renewed, prepare for Hawley to do all kinds of things that fans hate and then to scream "fan entitlement" when people complain. No thank you, Mr. Hawley.
  10. And telling daughter that everything was going to be okay ...well except the minor detail that daddy is dead. Wow, what a gloss-over. I hope that daddy wasn't really dead, just in a recoverable coma so that he couldn't reveal the bomb location.
  11. I think the predictions that showed it likely dead didn't factor in ABC's unusual (and failing) pattern of airing new dramas late this season. I suspect TR will get another season. After all, what have they got instead? Another Whiskey Cavalier? Lead-ins definitely matter to rating numbers. However, if a show has bad ratings even with poor lead-ins, it may not make it. The bottom line is that networks want something that will earn cash in a particular timeslot. If a show doesn't and if they don't have a better place to move it, they cancel it in favor of something that looks more promising to them.
  12. Gee, we have a whole bunch of hardened and lifer prisoners to transport. Let's load them into a rickety school bus with light restraints. What could possibly go wrong? Lousy premise, but it made for a fun story, slightly dark but not too dark. I really liked this episode, clearly designed to attract The Bachelor crowd. The show is growing on me, which is its kiss of death. We'll see.... Shahi is coming back in future episodes. Yayyy good chemistry with Fillion.
  13. I think I read somewhere that The Bachelor is airing a Tuesday episode that will lead in to The Rookie. But I've never heard about a move either. Edit: Actually The Bachelor will air special episodes on two Tuesdays in a row: https://www.etonline.com/colton-underwood-teases-his-two-night-bachelor-finale-is-unlike-anything-else-exclusive-118923
  14. Chemistry in the leads was ho-hum, cardboardish. I'll probably watch, but it seems like a summer show. Couldn't they have done one episode before introducing agent as surgeon? I found the move between being hopelessly heartbroken over a lost love to being smitten with Loren Cohan's character too much. Thumbs up for the exploding tampon.
  15. May I take a moment to say how happy I am to read you, cancer survivor!!!! I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if one of Nathan's injuries had something to do with his poor running. Back, knee, anyone?
  16. Yes, I 100% bought the dementia-riddled serial killer. I have my own severe dementia patient who was always shockingly self-centered and entitled and is still shockingly self-centered and entitled. If something is ingrained, it doesn't require good cognitive abilities to maintain. It's becomes rote. So, yep, bad behavior hangs around into the golden years even with brain disease and maybe becomes worse as inhibitions decline. However I think for many people, age brings less expectation, less judgment, more go with the flow. Thus, I still love "old people" in general, serial killers, narcissists and "mean old buzzards" aside. Full disclosure: I am past the favored demographic age range myself, so judge my own "old person" status as you wish. But the magic this show brings in details like the shrinking/stretching scrubs is down right comical. Is it intentional? I guess I prefer this kind of magic over the extraordinary continuity issues in Castle.
  17. Even this typically silly episode was entertaining. I root for Bradford and Sara Rue's character even more than I do for Bradford and Chen. I'd have loved to see Rue do a Cinderella at the ball scene, where she dolls up and "impresses" Bradford. I'm sure they're saving that for later. I'm hoping Nolan and his college roomie have a reminiscing road trip, although they may not have time in what's shaping up to be the first and only season...sigh. I could care less about most of the other story lines. In the real world, the DA would definitely tell Lopez who his date was. The aging serial killer overcoming 2 cops and a young nurse made me want to throw something at the TV. But I think the stalker was believable (LOL), having read some interesting stories about stalkers and their amazing ability to study their victims. I agree that this show doesn't care one whit about medical accuracy. It was something to watch while brushing my teeth for bed, so I was happy.
  18. Yeah, not nervous. If the implication was that he was nervous because the show isn't doing well, honestly, he probably has lots of other options, maybe some at ABC, who knows.
  19. Defendant can't fudge the facts, even to get herself out of jail....apparently in TBBT-Sheldon's next character life, he comes back as a female medical examiner.
  20. What was asked of West was a very personal choice and decision and one that shouldn't be judged so harshly by his mother. If anyone is at fault for their poor relationship, it's her. This was another entertaining episode, fast paced and fun, although with it's typical (and for me, higher than average) need to altogether forget sense and reality. For instance, regarding Chen's needle stick. From a friend's health care HIV exposure, I know that you cannot get a reliable HIV test the same day as exposure. The typical protocol is to do PEP (prophylactic antiretroviral drugs) for 28 days and test at 4-6 weeks and then at 3 and 6 months after exposure. BTW, my friend was fine. Why they couldn't have said, "well you have to start prophylactic anti-AIDS drugs as a precaution, but so far you're fine and probably will be" is beyond me. It's so easy to keep things real sometimes that it amazes me that shows don't do it. I guess I should be thankful that Chen wasn't pregnant, LOL. I appreciate that the training officers are respecting the "boots" more. I find it strange to attempt to knock down someone's spirit and then expect them to back you up under gun fire. The kind of hazing they do should be limited to training school. Once rookies have passed and are on the beat, the hazing should stop and the confidence building begin. From next week's preview, they're taunting us with revisiting the lying about Chen's presence at Nolan's house during the home invasion. These shows sweep so many unresolved issues under the rug. Why they have to ressurect such an artificial and head-slapping premise, I'll never know. I'm going to skip next week and hope that by the following week the scenario is truly dead and buried.
  21. Laurie Metcalf says it's most certainly coming back and I believe her. Compared to the dregs on broadcast TV these days, it's pretty much a work of writing art. Given that it's ABC's second highest rated show, the network is going to turn cartwheels to make it happen. I can't wait. But I honestly thought this was a weaker episode. Somehow the overly positive child doesn't work for me? I'm not buying it. Please don't make the rest of this show like this one.
  22. This episode was much better than last week. TR finds it's note when it doesn't go all serious and arc-ey. It's really set up as a comedy with a few dramatic scenes. Of course, all the predictability was still there, but without quite as much of the sense of trying too hard. Who else thinks the knee in the 'nads was Nathan's idea ;-)? Nolan's son was so well cast that I'm not entirely sure that the kid isn't related to Nathan. And yes, Nathan playing dad is fine television for me. +1 for me.
  23. Whiskey Cavalier gives me a Deception vibe. I agree with TVGrimReaper. Spring shows are the second string. They rarely survive these days. I know Castle had a spring premiere, but someone made a good point on another forum that Castle was pushed because of a last minute decision to air another half season of Boston Legal.
  24. The shtick on this show is to do exactly what nobody in their right mind would do, every single time. It's lazy writing, but I guess that's what TV has become. Honestly, I miss Marlowe.
  25. I have a female friend who at 56 years of age just married an 80 year old man. They're both farmers, nobody has any gold to dig or any other nefarious reasons for the coupling. They just love each other and wanted to make it official. I am 100% sure that she courted him. It isn't as strange in the real world as people want to think.
