Thanks for reminding me about that Gasoleeena song. I was listening to it, wondering if it was from the Mad Max movies? They were out in the desert, fighting over supplies of Gasoleen (...instead of water....lol) I was chuckling so much at singing about Gasoleeeen, that's about all I remember from that performance.

Sorry to correct Lord Tom, but Melissa Rycroft is not the one and only instance of rehearsal footage being judged in the competition. Don't forget Steve-O. Melissa was injured before the dress rehearsal, and her camera-blocking footage was shown, with her dancing in her blue jeans. It was scored. Then, in the team dance, Lacey did Melissa's part, and Melissa received the team dance score even though she didn't dance it (which created a bit of controversy). Steve-O injured his back during dress rehearsal, and his dress rehearsal footage with Lacey was shown and judged. He did make it through that week, and a couple of weeks beyond. I've been voting for Danica and Amy this season, but I don't want to see them carry on and injure themselves further. So, Charlie and Sharna got my votes this evening. Danica and Val traveled to DC this week for a Science Fair and both appeared onstage with Bill Nye. It's really too bad that her package was focused on her injury, because it would have been interesting and fun to see geek-Danica promoting her math books. Amy's package about her boyfriend was cringe-worthy. I wish she hadn't cooperated with any intrusive questions the producers asked to put that one together. Ugh. Between her injury and that embarrassing pre-dance footage, I'm ready for her to go home for her own sake. I'm beyond tired of the additional dancers in the numbers. They just violate the entire spirit of Dancing With The Stars, which is based around watching stars and their pro partners perform 1.5 minute dance routines that they've practiced all week long. Not celebrities as bit players in huge production numbers.

Bad News. Danica is injured, may not be able to continue. She sent the following tweet an hour ago: So...I broke a rib in yesterday's #DWTS rehearsal. Trying my best to pull thru and could use your prayers!! #wanttokeepdancing https://twitter.com/...742581367521281 Damn, that's not good. Probably trying to do a lift. I remember Melissa broke a rib during her first season.

Waves hello to Marissa Jarrett Winokur and Victor the boxer, former contestants in the audience. Candace had my favorite dress of all the seasons -- the mirrorball dress! I can't remember a pre-dance package ever centering on the pro's stresses and insecurities. Usually we assume the pros are up the task, providing guidance to the star, leading the team....because they are professionals! Too much Maks-drama for me. Amy and Derek had a great dance, too bad they messed up the one part. Kinda like Charlie's great dance last week that was too bad he dropped the cane. If they must bring in useless guest judges, Redfoo was at least upbeat and encouraging with everyone. He had no need to make headlines by insulting anyone, thank goodness. Plus, he actually performed a number for us. We've had worse guest judges. No point in putting on the MSoD performances if the lights are too low to see the dancers. An awful lot of flashing lights and fog and people dancing in shadows. What I did see looked fun, though. Philip Chbeeb should have been acknowledged by name as the star of the MSoD piece and the guy in the mirrorcube head.

Bill Nye and Tyne did a swing dance bumper during his season, before he got injured. I can't remember a star doing a solo bumper before.

I flinched at this moment last night: “Maks has rubbed off a little bit on Danica,” said Maks’ brother Val. “I think she’s turned into a self-centered, egotistical, completely irrational, emotional bitch. Thanks, Maks.” Whoa. I know it was supposed to be a joke, but it was too damn mean for what I used to think was a light-hearted, good natured reality show about ballroom dancing. And I'm tired of seeing Danica be a punching bag in the Chmer Bros Special. She's a woman of accomplishment, both as an actor and mathematician and author. She deserves better.

This is misinformation. You can enjoy the show fully, as a loyal union member. Ray Chew is a union member for 40 years, the band is a union band. Here's his page at American Federation of Musicians http://www.afm.org/im/ray-chew When Harold Wheeler and the band were fired, it was reported the show would be going to recorded music. The musicians union protested against the loss of union musician jobs. Within a couple of weeks, DWTS announced it had hired Ray Chew and the band. No further protests have been heard from the union. Which begs the question of why Ray Chew is considered better than Harold (both are highly regarded professionals), why would they fire one and hire the other, but the show didn't bust a union in any way.

Similar for Derek's role; if they were on SYTYCD, we'd be complaining that Derek was just a forklift in that routine.LOL I don't like contemporary, but the Amy/Derek dance was gorgeous, and so emotional. I've watched it three times and the tears flowed each time.

S18.E03: The Most Memorable Year of Their Lives
Woodrose replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Dancing With The Stars
Board ate my post! I'm going to have to train myself to copy before I hit the 'reply' button, Bummer. I'm too old a dog to be learning new tricks. I just rewatched Meryl and Maks's foxtrot. I was going to say it was a foxtrot set to a funeral dirge, but I guess it was actually a ballad. Not dance music, very little discernible beat -- not a foxtrot song, at all. And I'm having a real hard time figuring out why calling a halt in the middle of the dance and practically making out with Maks is a tribute to her 17-year ice dance career. Meryl was elegant and graceful, and I have no problem with her score, but it did not hold together as a piece of art to me. I definitely blame the music choice. As I was fast forwarding through the commercials, I halted as I saw Louis Van Amstel. It was a commercial for a dance fitness website put together by Louis for ABC and DWTS. Seemed like the perfect job for Louis, who already has his own chain of dance fitness studios. I'm pleased that Louis is still part of the DWTS team. Now I want to hear of him choreographing a group pro dance number. RescueMom, I like Cody too, for much the same reasons you outline. He is working hard to entertain me, and I'm enjoying his dances. edit to remove failed HTML tags. No bold type for me -
S18.E03: The Most Memorable Year of Their Lives
Woodrose replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Dancing With The Stars
cross-posted from TWOP: Kym in the audience! Would love to see her as a guest judge or maybe in a Macy's Dance. I miss her charming comedic choreography with partners like Jerry Springer. Tony should dance without his shirt more often. I expect Nene to be the next star sent home. She's not that good of a dancer, and reality stars tend to go home after three or four weeks, so it's her time. No one is looking forward to the switch up. I do believe I could have predicted that. I'm glad they've announced that it's a one-week deal (wish they'd done so earlier), so people can stop worrying about the prospect of favorite couples being broken up for the rest of the season. If Meryl wins the mirror ball, it will be with Maks. Ditto Charlie/Sharna and Amy/Derek and the rest. I'm quite pleased with this season's slate of dancers. Danica, Meryl, Charlie, Amy, James, Cody, Drew, and Candace have all performed dances that I've enjoyed watching, and they all, including Drew, have enough skill to be above trainwreck-level dancers. And they all seem to be nice people and get along and support each other, so all in all a good cast. Once we start eliminating any of the above eight stars, I'll regret having to say good-bye before seeing the full slate of dances from them. Quite a change from some past seasons with only three good dancers among the celebs, so it really didn't matter too much in what order the others went home. Emma seemed somber and sad alongside Billy tonight. I'm sorry to see her leave so early in the season, but I wouldn't want to send any more competent dancers home ahead of Billy. Better luck next time. Tom on the judges' table! For once, he was standing as high as his awesomeness warrants, the top cat. -
SG:1 The Great Rewatch Planning Committee
Woodrose replied to theredhead77's topic in Stargate SG-1 [V]
I'm in. SG-1 is pretty much my favorite TV show ever, and its been a few years since I've watched it. Enough time has passed so it will be interesting to see it all again, and there will be some moments I don't remember. One season per month sounds like a great schedule. Of course, we have to start with the movie, in order to start the story at the beginning. -
Great attitude, ari333. Pop some corn for me, I'll settle back to watch the shenanigans, too. Part of me hopes that Maks permanently loses Meryl so we can see fireworks beyond compare. But...I'm afraid it could really turn massive numbers of people off the show, and I actually don't want that. In spite of all the gimmicks, I still enjoy the dancing and the sparkles and cheese, and I don't want to hasten its demise. Though it appears TPTB might want to drive it into the grave ASAP.

Thanks for the welcome mat to Twoppers searching for a new forum. Waves to Glark and Wing Chun: Glad I found your new place! The switchup, especially with Twitter voting for an entire week, is the biggest mess I've ever seen a TV show create. (tho I'm far from an expert on the topic, there may be many I'm not aware of). ABC.com can't even do us the service of providing a definitive answer to the question: send your tweets with or without spaces before the names? I've decided not to cast any more Twitter votes (I did about 10) because I don't want to burden my followers with anymore silly lists of DWTS hashtags. A pox on TPTB for this whole annoying mess.
