  1. I had those TS's as well. I don't know how I missed that Neil Simon had died; it seems it should've been pretty big news, but I only got it right because I knew both Arthur Miller and August Wilson died in '05, and he was the next playwright I thought of. Ditto on the pink hair. I don't like it on everyone who has it, but the new champ wears it well. Also ditto on the revamp of One Day at a Time. It's excellent, and Rita Moreno is a national treasure. Speaking of EGOT winners, I was catching up on this season of The Voice last weekend and learned that John Legend is an EGOT. I had no idea. I went down an EGOT rabbit hole and am now prepared should an EGOT category come up during my game(s)!
  2. I don't like a lot of modern artists, but I freaking love The Weeknd. "Earned It" is one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard. It's on my hot date playlist! He also seems like a good guy, which is nice in a time when so many celebrities don't seem to be.
  3. Absolutely. I'm also going to tell him how many well wishes I've read for him here and on other forums I visit. Yesterday was such a roller coaster day for me. I received the e-mail from the contestant coordinator with my flight information and was really excited. About an hour later, I opened up my Facebook page and the first thing I saw was his video. I'm still really upset, as I'm sure all of you Jeopardy fans are. Alex has his quirks, but I can't even begin to imagine Jeopardy without him. I've been watching since 1984, when I was 12 years old and knew very few of the answers.
  4. He was from Tucson, so I was definitely rooting for him. I hope he doesn't catch too much flack from his coworkers for missing that one. I'm glad to have regular Jeopardy back. The All Star clues were shaking my confidence! I did well today but missed FJ and was too emotional about Alex to think to write down my gets.
  5. The show was a little delayed in sending out our plane tickets for the Teachers Tournament. They mentioned they thought they might have to delay it but all is well now and it was something that "couldn't be helped." I'm assuming this is what was going on. I'm hoping Alex gets the treatment he needs to beat this.
  6. I'd never heard it before that episode.
  7. I'm catching up on episodes and had yesterday's and today's FJ responses pretty quickly. I can't say that for the rest of the games, but that made me feel good. For today's, once I realized it was Eisenhower and knew he served two terms it was easy. It may have helped that I'm teaching The Crucible and we're spending a lot of time on the 50s.
  8. I have received my contestant packet. Woohoo! I was asked to provide a list of up to 6 guests who will be attending. The guests are not supposed to spoil the results, but it doesn't look like they're being asked to sign anything. The amount of stuff I had to sign, on the other hand... whew! We are encouraged to hype up our upcoming appearances on social media, and I feel like I've done more than my share of that already. I only wish I could get my friends and family to understand that I feel like I've already won. Making the show was the goal, and everything else is just gravy, including getting into the tournament. I appreciate their confidence, but it's putting some unnecessary pressure on me!
  9. I wasn't going to watch, but I need my fix. I admit that I felt pretty smart when I got Gibraltar alter vaulter. I really don't like all the talking and wasn't even sure there'd be a game. It was stressing me out! I kept checking the time left on the recording and freaking out that they'd never get through an actual game. Gah!
  10. Last night I had McCoys and Salinas as my only gets. I missed FJ and said Brigadoon. I think I was somehow thinking of a recent episode I watched and didn't even think of the lyrics to the song; I thought about the bridge part. I've probably watched 200 episodes over the past two weeks, so I'm going to stop watching for a few days; I have a four-day weekend from school for Rodeo Days, so I'm going to decompress. I felt bad for Matt. He started really strong but faded in DJ. His facial expressions were freaking me out though. That's a face with a lot of character!
  11. If no one answers before my taping, I'll answer this in April!
  12. I thought speedy was the surprising TS.
  13. I thought FJ was easy. However, I struggled with some of the clues during this game that the contestants knew. I did have neonatal, humane, speedy, lyre, Gaza strip, the Maine, and Punic Wars. When I had my audition, on January 17, they'd just finished taping the All Star games. I'm surprised they're airing already.
  14. I assume there are for contestants, but I'm not sure how much control they have over audience members. That's a great question, though. I've never been spoiled about a tournament result, but I don't do Twitter or most other social media.
  15. The timing was kind of perfect. It gave me something to focus on instead of wallowing in misery. Plus, we'd been arguing a lot, so it's one fewer distraction. I'm excited to be part of that family, after 20 years of trying! ETA: I will threaten them under penalty of death if they blab. There's not a lot of time between tape date and air date for the tournament, so it should be okay.
  16. I owe you guys some responses but quoting on mobile is tricky for me. I am in Tucson but originally from southeastern PA. I'm a lifelong Philly sports fan, which hasn't always been easy. That may explain the confusion about my location. My partner and I split up for good two days before I got the call, so what was going to be a terrible Valentine's Day ended up being kind of amazing. I did let her know I made the show, but she didn't seem to care. Anyway, I'm taking my best friend. Because it's not a far drive, my parents, brother, and sister-in-law will also come to the taping. I have an uncle in San Diego who will probably also attend. It depends on how many tickets I get. The coordinator to whom I was referring is Ryan. Great guy! Everyone I met from the show, including other audtioners, was amazing. I bonded with a few folks at the audition who I'm sure will be excited to see me on the show. I'd certainly be excited to see them. I don't know how the grant works. They're apparently sending me a big package of information. I'll let you know more as I learn more. Let me know if I can answer anything else. ETA: The student who joked about me tanking has sincerely apologized. He's also one of my favorite students; he's bright and always participates in class. He said he truly wants me to win the whole thing. His classmates gave him so much grief I didn't really have to. Lol. The school made an announcement about my making the show, so students who I don't even know have been congratulating me. Its been a whirlwind two days.
  17. I only had knee and Regan tonight but I did get FJ with a bit of a guess.
  18. I'm late to posting about yesterday's game. My family had a little surprise "you made it" party for me. Let me tell you, if they saw me trying to teach hungover they may not put me on the Teachers Tournament! I had Trip Advisor, traveler, numismatics, $100,000 Pyramid, and pontification. I had no clue on FJ, and there was nothing in the clue that would've led me to Brownsville. I wonder if being a Texan helped Eric who, by the way, has been most impressive.
  19. I know enough to answer at leas the first three rows. The harder stuff, not so much. However, I don't see a lot of this category in the teachers tournament archives, so I think I'll be okay. ETA: I teach Shakespeare, so I would embarrassed to miss a Shakespeare clue, although I don't teach all of his stuff. I have an English degree, so I'm fairly comfortable with the classics.
  20. I posted on the main page that I'd made this year's teachers tournament, but I wanted to post here in case anyone had specific questions I could answer. One thing I didn't realize is that because it's a tournament, the show is providing my air fare, hotel, an extra free day for exploring the area, and a per diem. I spent quite a bit when I went for my audition, so it was refreshing to learn this one won't cost me much at all. I have notified my school district and assume they'll be doing a lot of promotion on the local level, and I expect to also hear from our local ABC affiliate. The contestant coordinator who held our audition was the same one who called me, and he told me they really loved me at the audition and couldn't wait to see me on the show, so that was exciting to hear. I can't think of anything else at the moment, but I'll keep you posted as things progress.
  21. I may be the only gay, black, left-handed female in the tournament, but who knows? Just look for someone named Tara. Oh, I've been reading since before my audition. I'm studying a lot of ancient history, which I'm a bit weak in, and royalty.
  22. This is a little off-topic, but I wanted all of you to see it. I made the Teachers Tournament for this year! I'm taping at the beginning of April, and it will air May 5-17th.
  23. Same. I haven't watched cartoons since I was a kid, so I usually do terribly when a category of them comes up. This one was right up my alley. I had square roots, Captain Blood, and FJ immediately. I questioned the Marvin Martian response as well. I did a brief search and couldn't find him listed as anything other than Marvin the Martian.
  24. My only TS get was Tess of the Daubervilles. I haven't seen Grey's Anatomy but guessed it from the clue. Eric must have felt comfortable with the category. Congrats to him on impressive win and defeating a solid champion.
  25. He was a DJ! That's a show I'd have had to skip, and I actually like jazz. I had mock apple pie, Woonsocket, and Peter. I said Denmark for FJ. I had a streak of FJ gets and blew it. Boo hiss. Was anyone else yelling at Bif to pick clues faster? It'd been a while since I've noticed a slow player, and now we've had them two days in a row! He was fine otherwise but I hope he speeds it up tomorrow.
