  1. I was horrified the first time I finally watched the movie that my mother would name me after a movie with slavery such a big part of it. We are black, after all. But it's my mom's favorite book and movie, and she was always going to name her daughter after the home (not Prissy, lol). My middle name is one of the actresses in the film as well. Oy. Since the hamfest that was the Tournament of Champions, I have not been bothered by a single contestant. I haven't even noticed most of the things that used to drive me nuts. I'm just thrilled to have my boring Jeopardy contestants back. I'm sure this will change with time, but I'm enjoying it now.
  2. Not a bad game today. I wondered if Alex didn't realize it was a runaway game. I got the favoring DD, Gone With the Wind (which I'm named after), Massachusetts Bay Colony, Narragansett (once again teaching The Crucible helps with a Jeopardy clue), New Hampshire, and Paracardiam. I didn't get FJ.
  3. That's what I heard too. He said it was off for years but was a very good show.
  4. Thank you for this! I thought motown songs were ubiquitous. I'm surprised they went unanswered.
  5. Oh, I missed that part. Thanks for letting me know.
  6. My goodness the TS's were plenty today! Wow... My gets were Deadwood, wampum, Lincoln DD, Manolo Blahnik, Doc Martens, Emma, OF Human Bondage, wellington, you better shop around, temple, Hadrian, Pantheon, and Heatwave. For FJ I just said fringe and was sure I was right.
  7. There were quite a few triple stumpers today. The ones I got right were Jerry Orbach, Port, artichokes, plums, Boysenberry, Betty Cooper, Howl, and Olive Kittredge. I said squeak for creek... Judges? Yeah, I know I'm reaching. Alex got his French in today, so I'm sure he was happy. I am glad Matt won. I agree with him about the grape soda. It's completely underrated. In fact, I often vape grape soda flavored e-juice. It's a favorite! Fj was an instaget. He recently guest starred on Blackish. It was a pretty funny episode.
  8. FJ was an instaget for me, but having lived in Germany helped. It's nice of them to acknowledge there are other western European countries besides France. I didn't write down my gets, but I know one was a DD. Count me in as not a fan of Hawaiian shirts, but the contestant seems fine. No board hopping, so I was happy.
  9. I call people by whichever pronouns they prefer, not based on their dress. I had a student last year who is a girl but identifies as a boy, so I respected that and referred to him as such. I'm curious to know if the TPC producers asked the plaintiff which pronouns to use. I certainly hope so. At first I was worried the landlord kicked him out because of his being transgendered, so I was delighted to find out that wasn't the issue. Hooray for progress.
  10. I was a Van Halen fan back in the day and had no idea they covered it. I don't think TS clues are usually indicative of people not knowing obvious stuff; I think there are often parts of clues that make contestants hesitant to ring in. I would never have rung in on that one, and I'm well aware that Orbison did Pretty Woman.
  11. Exactly. My favorite FJ gets are the ones I don't know right away but can think about and then make an educated guess. That's what the think music is for! This clue didn't give enough think time, which is why it was unfair. Either accept the partial answer or don't use an FJ clue with such a long response.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought him back, if just for the amount of outrage I'm seeing about it. Again, I understand their rule, but it was obvious what he was trying to finish writing. I've seen contestants brought back for what I've considered lesser offenses.
  13. His entire car was tricked out with Biblical stuff, which again is fine. But he doubled down in his hallterview with some crap about honesty when he himself was caught in a lie by MM. I won't go on a rant, but I despised him. I have no doubt he was nasty to the defendant, and the fact that the defendant countersued for only a dollar made me chuckle.
  14. Someone should tell holier than thou, fake news shouting Vette guy there is no book in the Bible called "Revelations." Sorry, but that's one of my triggers. You want to thump the Bible knock yourself out, but get the damn names of the books correct.
  15. Twitter? Of course I have no idea how to do that, but I'll learn for his sake. BTW I keep reading "Wilbur" in Mr. Ed's voice.
  16. Nice! Thanks for sharing that. Maybe tomorrow's FJ can be that long When the Pawn... album by Fiona Apple. And you have to write out the whole title!
  17. I was so pissed for Wilbur's sake. Why would they select something that takes the ENTIRE freaking time to write??? There's no time to even think about the full title. I understand the ruling, but I thought that should never have been a response to an FJ clue, when the contestants have to write down the answer. My gets were: dilemma; cosmopolitan; the installation DD; snakebite; and the Wright Brothers DD. I knew FJ but would never have been able to write it by the time I figured it out.
  18. I'm surprised he wasn't just happy with the amount of time he managed to live in freaking LA for $250. I live in Tucson, which is one of the cheapest places I've ever lived, and you can't live here for $250; at least not alone! Now that I think of it, he's a typical litigant, so I shouldn't be surprised he sued.
  19. ESPN calls him Tom Terrific because they spend most of their time fellating him. Sorry, I'm a Philly fan who despises New York and Boston teams. It's my birthright... My gets were Intuit and Shah. I hated the way whoever it was pronounced Reading Gaol. I grew up in Reading, PA, and it's pronounced like the past tense of "read" not its present tense. Someone did that while playing me in Monopoly once as well with Reading Railroad. Drove me nuts!
  20. That screenwriter drove me nuts. I suspect all his scripts start with, "What happened was..."
  21. I agree that MM gets too hung up about family stuff. I probably wouldn't sue a family member, but my family wouldn't do to me what some families do to each other. What drives me crazy about TPC, and many other shows I watch, is they feel the need to tell me what's coming up after the commercial. It's such a waste of time, especially since most people are using a dvr.
  22. If you had told me there would be a TS in final during the TOC that was an instaget for me, I'd call you nuts. But that's what happened today, which was fun for me playing at home. I also got Narcad, Air Supply, Pala Mata, Innocent, and Julio Iglesias/Willy Nelson. I enjoyed their camaraderie. Good game.
  23. OMG Pranjal was driving me nuts. Alan was cute trying to calculate how far ahead he was. I liked Tim's FJ answer. It must be frustrating when you can't ring in. My gets were Reagan, the DD of Massachusetts, auxiliary, abruptly, Joan Allen (teaching The Crucible this bloack and we just watched the movie), Hoover, guitar, and the Templar DD. I didn't know FJ, so I'll have to research Petain.
  24. I like this show, too, and really like the cast. I am nervous when a show I like has very few posts, but I haven't checked the ratings to see how it's actually doing. I think it's charming and thought-provoking, and I like that they are taking on local politics.
  25. I think Edie is a fantastic actor, in fact she portrayed two of my favorite TV female characters of all-time on The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie. However, this was drivel for me. I don't think it was her that was the problem, although I can see what you're saying. The problem is she was the big-name draw for the series, and I think the producers felt like they had to highlight her. This story would be better told from both sides of the story and, instead, we really got a pro-Abramson take on it. I have no idea why I stuck with it, but I hope if they do another case they don't make it so one-sided.
