  1. I knew it wasn't going to be those two young men the minute the priest came out of the church.

[crossover talk from this episode: I had to laugh at the end outside the church, when I saw Dr. Manning from Med sanding down the millwork outside in her winter coat; such a gratuitous Med inclusion of one of my least favorite characters. Like Louie from Fire who apparently was always with a babysitter anyway before Gabby and Casey courageously let the people who should have him actually have him, Dr. Manning's toddler son must have been spending mom's day off by himself.]

I liked Olinski coming down hard on Burgess, and loved her flying out of nowhere to save his life (although I would have expected the bad guy to just shoot him from behind a tree without the whole talking bit).

Rixton (hello, writers, how about a name that doesn't sound like Ruzek? Maybe Jablonski or Smith?) seems to be a bit of a loose cannon--I told Mr MML Show had to bring in a new guy to move some plotlines that might damage the main characters.  Mr MML didn't care. Sometimes I watch Mr MML as he watches the Chicago shows, and he is loving the scenes that drive me crazy. Something must be wrong with one of us.

PS Atwater, you made me laugh.

  2. Severide finding his soulmate is a ripped from the headlines plot line (here is a recent example:  http://abc7chicago.com/health/life-saving-liver-donation-leads-to-love-for-frankfort-couple/1147452/). Not sure why he could have pain meds after the extraction and not during it.

Gabby's eyebrows were wiggling right up her forehead as she emoted during her big scenes, while Casey's subtle reactions were so much more effective. Way to make Louie happy and excited about his new family--nah it's all about Gabby. Laughed out loud when they left him to pack his own suitcase, and then again when he had to pull it himself down the sidewalk. Poor Louie. Ah well, let's see how Gabby reinvents herself now!

"Mamas Milk Box" (cringe) is a ripoff of a thing called "Stitch Fix", which also seems as shady as hell too. Same meh clothing, same "consulting fee", same discount on purchasing all the crap you receive, and insanely short time to return the crap if you don't like it.

    ....

I'm at DD's house and she actually has some things from StitchFix ready to return. She is very busy and very out of fashion touch and LOVES SF (she would describe herself as a meh dresser so it's a great match! The clothes imo are good enough but more important for DD is that they are delivered without any thought on her part and the Fedex guy picks up the returns at her door) but she said she would never have used the milk box company because she needed those kinds of clothes for such a short time (vs how long she keeps her other clothes).

Stupid Mama and her milk boxes.

  4. I'm so old I wore actual maternity clothes, but pretty sure my daughter and her friends just pass around their baby-oriented stuff, which would happen with the breast feeding clothes (not to mention that no one really notices or cares about someone just pulling up her shirt and feeding a baby these days, so there's that too). Mama's milk brain is delusional.

If NicePipes became a thing, you'd soon be able to buy Lululemon brand and then byebye Nice Pipes.

I liked Vlad a lot--hope he invents more toys.

I missed most of the disposable grease bag but when I don't have a container handy for it, I (gross, I know) just pour it right into the garbage, on top of the other stuff, after it cools down in the pan a little. Maybe the inventor and Barbara can make a commercial/restaurant version, or maybe the bag might have other applications (oil spills?). The presenter will do good in real estate with Barbara.

  5. Sorry, of course everyone mmv, but I definitely got that impression--April was doing a perfectly fine job taking care of things, there was no reason for Maggie to take over from her (i.e., the husband very reluctantly gave Maggie the dead wife's cross only because April wasn't at the desk at the moment, not because he was happy with Maggie taking it). Then we see Maggie pleading with S'epatha to let her take the task back because she can bring something special to the task (and sort of an indirect slap at April's ability). Of course jerking his dead wife's final care back and forth between nurses will make him feel really comfortable.... My unpopular opinion: Some of Maggie's story lines I like (with her transgender sister), but some are more about her than the patients (painting the fingernails of the vegetative patient for years, for instance).

I've thought for awhile that the writers regret writing Natalie as having a child and have conveniently forgotten all about Owen. ...

And maybe regret that her specialty is pediatrics. Her dead patient was a college student, right? I don't know the actress from anything other than this show, but her underwhelmingness is increasing. She is just so unbelievable imo. Too bad the review board didn't boot her.

    Just my opinions:

I found it pretty unbelievable that the charge nurse, Maggie, would also take care of coordinating organ donations. Seriously, the ER nurses take care of that? Not a separate department? At any rate, I think it was selfish of the character not to recuse herself right away. Give me a break, only she can make the surviving spouse's pain better?

And the quilt, out of nowhere--come on, is there a little quilter at work in the basement to create these on demand at a breakneck speed, or is there a stock readymade waiting for the handprint square to be inserted? And all the police lining the halls--the officer was killed in a freak accident, right, not in the line of duty (which I would assume might call for more representation)? They all took the day off, went home, got into their dress uniforms, and came to Chicago Med? What will they do for the funeral? Show takes itself way too seriously sometimes.

I too think Jeff is better off. He is too good for Manning.

I want to see Reese hypercaffeinated next episodes with chewing those espresso beans. Nice trick, Splendorkable!

  7. Bunny is the master of manipulation so even though I said to Mr MML early in the episode that Voight will be Erin's father, I don't really think so since Bunny is now planting the idea (as she did with Jimmy, Erin's not-father). The scene where not-father ripped into Erin as being a scammer just like Bunny was really sad, imo.

I think the scene with the slightly drunk random BFF Annie at the bar was partly just to show Erin tossing back shots--we are to think she could easily fall back into bad habits, perhaps.

  8. Just saw this episode on a library DVD and had to post about it. It was so weird (a tiger! a great big tiger!) yet brilliant. The Bright redemption (not that he had done anything needing redemption, but his character has been a little on the weasel side, and the little weasel at that) was just amazing. So much good stuff. Thanks to the above posters for all the inside jokes within the episode.

  9. I think all the good writers are working on Justice--Fire suffered when PD got focused on, and PD really went flat when Med got going. But imo Fire is back on its feet and PD too so hold on, Med will get better.

  10. Does the show ever address his prematurely spilling the beans and spoiling the ending on the plane coming home from the taping for FRC for Andi's season? I always thought this was the biggest dumbest nail in his villain coffin but it's forgotten now? Still not interested in watching (too much Netflix to catch up on instead) and Mr MML can't stand him, but would love it if the b'ettes took to social media to do the same.

Actually, from what I remember of the wrecked car they showed, it seemed highly unlikely someone would have been able to walk away from that with nothing but a bump on their forehead. Yet the guy who turned out to have stolen the car didn't even have a scratch on him!

The guy who was actually driving Severide's stolen car was quite banged up.

  12. I don't see newby Officer Rixton lasting too long.

Loved Olinsky in this episode (oh, heck, always love Olinsky) and Trudy--please Dick Wolf have a series just about them. Burgess was annoying but I liked her handling of the people behind the police tape in the first scene.

Raise your hand if you thought like I did that Lindsey's father was the rapist/murderer. And I am continue to be amazed at Markie Post in this show--she is just so good, she can be in the Olinsky Trudy spinoff. Sure, we're buying a salon for Bunny, says Lindsey's father, and Bunny averts her eyes from Lindsey's.

Yeah, I've always had an issue with Voight suddenly being a "good guy" despite planting coke in Casey's home, threatening to kill Casey, threatening to kill Casey's then girlfriend/fiancee Hallie, etc. All of this because Casey was honest in stating that Voight's son was driving drunk and caused a severe car wreck. Voight didn't want his son to go to jail, which may have helped sort his son out.....

Apologies for the following exclamation points but they are a reflection of how incredible Voight's history is. I am pretty sure (yes I watch too much TV) that Voight's son Justin DID go to jail (Justin went into the army for other reasons later in PD) because Casey stuck to his guns about the drunk driving, but even more ludicrously Voight himself went to jail for attempted murder in his arranging for Casey to be taken down! And was arrested by Gabby's brother for the crime! Miraculously, when PD started, not only is Voight released, he is promoted to be head of the detectives! Because convicted felons of serious crimes are alway in the sweet spot for jobs in the police department and their leadership qualities are just topnotch.

I think Chief Boden might actually win the "what did he say?" contest in the MML house, over both PD's Lindsey and Voight.

I wonder if the recipient for Severide's bone marrow will recover. That was a sweet story line, so I hope so. I will trade that one for the Louie story line in a New York minute.

  14. The past few episodes of PD seem to have tried to ease up on Voight's more egregious abuses of suspects--I think we may have seen the last of the cage--but interesting that on Fire Show brought up his history with Casey. Casey is like an angel so far (I love him) and Voight's actions were pretty much irredeemable. I don't think Show is complex enough to delve into a tortured hero (Severide's had occasional tiny issues but always ended up sparkling clean).

Yes, Gabby automatically pocketing Casey's GreatAunt's check was selfish and classic.

Loved Brett's adoption backstory scene. Hated that Louie's father was a no-show. I guess we had to see the foundation being laid of him not being a responsible parent-type (and by extension I guess his whole family) to justify his adoption outside of his own family and the inevitable heartwrenching yet heartwarming battle between St. Gabby and the world. I had hoped the whole extended family would have been in the restaurant waiting for him.

Squad should replace all its games with a contest to see who can get that stick out of Connie's derriere. I didn't mind the pingpong comic relief but yes let's see them working out because Mouch especially just seems too out of shape to be an active firefighter.

  15. Is Splendorkable a pathology resident/medical student/whatever--not quite sure what he does or what his qualifications are other than getting test results superfast and being supersplendorkable? I would love to see more of him--Nina could have a dramatic death that would open the door for him. IMO the show has become pretty blah so any shakeup will be good.

Whoever dies or whatever position opens up, there is of course a 50/50 chance that Gabbie Dawson from Fire will magically be qualfied to take over.

No kidding.  Bernadette Peters makes even the $9.99/month access fee worth it.  And she's another one of those ageless actresses who has to have an aging portrait stashed away somewhere (she's 68, believe it or not, but she only looks about 35 and has for decades).  And you'd better believe she can turn in a powerful dramatic performance!

Um, I think previous posters were saying that the casting OF BP solidified their decisions to NOT watch

The Clarke storyline is interesting in that, when he was on Chicago Fire, they never mentioned that he had been in med school previously. Then he gets written out of Chicago Fire, and now is back as a med student on Chicago Med. I generally like the actor (he was in the show "Boss" along with the actors that play Cruz and Mouch), but I think his transition from firefighter to med student could have been a bit better explained earlier rather than just randomly mentioning to Severide in this episode that he had med text books on the shelf above his bed at the firehouse.

The best "WTF???" character transition in this franchise (and surely in the top ten of all character transitions outside daytime soap operas) is Voight who is the lead on Chicago PD--his character was evil personified in the early seasons of Fire as he threatened Casey for pushing for prosecution of Voight's son's drunk driving, and Gabby's brother Antonio helped take him down; some magic Dick Wolf pixie dust sprinkled over the characters and presto! Voight becomes the rough and tumble head of detectives with a heart of gold and Antonio now works for him (until next season when Antonio goes to Chicago Justice, of course)! Explained much more clearly here under the Chicago Fire head: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Voight Voight's transformation makes Clarke's seem most plausible. I remember Clarke on Fire but he really got buried in that big cast so am glad he's on Med now as I reall liked him--he is similar persona-wise and even in looks a little to PD's Jay Halstead, who makes me swoon. And yes I watch way too much tv.

Stella also doesn't need to lay on the makeup like Gabby. I love that Stella looks like a (beautiful) woman who is willing to ugly-up to the job done, which happens to be saving desperate lives.

And Stella and Brett don't seem to need to wear their shirts as skin tight as Gabby--maybe she wears soooo much eye makeup to draw her patients' and male coworkers' eyes upwards. I won't be surprised when her shirt splits down the middle from the strain.

I'm glad to see writers actually appreciate an actress who's not....gasp white and blonde.  OMG

I don't think that's a factor at all but interesting.

  19. DH likes Gabby and I don't, but it's the character and the excessive makeup, not the actress, that makes me scream at my screen. I blame the writers and not the actress--I don't know her work other than Fire, but I sure hope she is having fun with how Gabby is striking many of us.

  20. I think the only way the head through a windshield incident could happen would be if the windshield was already cracked, which would weaken it (it's technically illegal I believe to drive a car with a cracked windshield in Illinois), and the guy didn't have a seat belt on. It seems to me as someone living just west of Chicago that most of the emergencies on this show are based on real incidents that made the local news, but I don't remember reading about this one. I'll have to look it up. Keith in the back of the van didn't make sense to me and was sort of a mundane add-on to head through a windshield, imo.

I was surprised that the paramedics straightened the broken leg on site, no pain reliever, and didn't figure out how to load the vic into the truck as she was, to let the ortho in the ER deal with it. But maybe they are teained to do that and there was some medical reason the resetting couldn't wait ten minutes.

If the plot-line is to mirror this true story, then when Louie is given back to his bio parent, Matt will be without a child AND married to Gabby.

Actually, if Show follows the real-life version, there will be lots of drama and twists, and then Matt and Gabby will end up with Louie (as happened in the Burke case--I think the birth mother kept failing her drug tests, a condition of her permanently regaining custody, and never did get him back). But I did turn to Mr MML when Louie's father was at their door right after the wedding and said, oops, Matt is now stuck with her and no Louie.

Forgot to mention that I was afraid Severide's pre-bone marrow donation blood tests were going to reveal some dread disease so big sigh of relief that they didn't. And in another ripped from the headlines plot, a kidney donor recently fell in love with and married the woman who received his kidney. Wedding bells coming for Severide too?
