Cane's body language with Victor, Damian, Devon, and Holden looked pretty weak, like he was trying to convince himself as well as the others that he was strong and the smartest person in the room, maze or coffee house. I wasn't convinced. He blinks too much and looks like a schoolboy in that short-sleeved white shirt, black pants and Buster Brown shoes.

I'm 70 now but first watched a few episodes during the summer the year Y&R started. I must have read about it in the newspaper because I wasn't a daytime TV watcher. When university was back in session with no access to a TV and working during all my "free" time, I only was able to check in during vacations, and it was hard to get hooked when I couldn't watch regularly ... until I got my first VCR in 1984!

If Y&R's budget is so limited, why do they have so many weird choices that make us ask "is that vomit?" or "are those blotches supposed to be flowers?" instead of paying attention to the dialog? Or is that the point - to divert our attention from the boring writing? The 2019-2024 designs & hairdos were not a constant barrage of rare hits and mostly misses, and seemed to fit the vibe of the person wearing them. We don't expect or want to see Nikki dressed like a Highschool drum majorette with There's-Something-About-Mary hair one day and Marilyn Monroe the next. We appreciate seeing Diane in understated classics; Nikki as a society woman and executive should have a few nice suits (she looks best in jeweltones, whereas Diane looks great in grey & black) and only needs more creative outfits and hairdos for the occasional gala. Dazzle us with a nice cut and colour of an outfit or some embellishment, not an in-your-face atrocity!

ChatGPT could be an improvement except when JG's is inputting the variables to create a story including all of: Murder on the Orient Express, an overly made up 70 yr old woman in 1980s fashion with her nose in the air, a sockless obsessively blinking billionaire, Colonel Sanders and his blow-up doll wife wearing a skin-tight dress that she has apparently vomited down the front and side of, mazes & trains in France with no views ...

I don't have Hulu, but read Susan Page's 2024 book on Baba Wawa (The Rulebreaker: The Life and Times of Barbara Walters) that covers the same territory. Watching Walters & Reasoner when I was in grad school, I did notice that they each presented their part of the news as if the other one was not there, and did notice Baba & Diane Sawyer jockeying for postition at press conferences. Back then, networks barely tolerated one female news presenter, so Baba had to work hard so no younger, prettier, smarter & more articulate presenter could steal her job out from under her. It was like that in most male-dominated fields.

This makes me wonder if Y&R's writers are now using ChatGPT or similar software to search the Web and write the stories and scripts. They just enter names of characters, locations, conveyances and a couple of situations (like Murder on the Orient Express) and let 'er rip.
