Because I am still pissed as hell that they wrote out Pepper just to further Tony’s manpain

I thought the wrote out Pepper because Paltrow's contract ran out, and she didn't want to renew? Hasn't she taken a break from all acting now?

Yes! I was going "cut and/or dye your hair, or at least wear a wig!" (it's possible that Synths recognise each other via non-facial recognition, but do something to make yourself less visible). And it's sad (but believable) to see Mia become suspicious and close lipped around people, even among those she had previously (and rightly) trusted.

My understanding is that it's canon that synth's just recognise each other.

Our conscious synths are often getting questioning looks from other synths, or asked why they don't share etc.

I think it's like each synth is a WiFi router, on open settings, constantly sharing information; but that our conscious synths are WiFi routers with the security turned on - visible, but not sharing.

My biggest suspension of disbelief was that it seem too have taken the government this long to think about using synths to spy on people - all that face-recognition software, all that Geotagged CCTV being publicly broadcast for anyone who wants (and has the right tech) to have a look; and only NOW do they decide to use it (and to use it in such an obvious manner - talk about subtlety of delivering their message).

I imagine getting a Synth kid would be more like getting a pet - you don't like them, you can always dump them. And if you want to see them grow - well there's the upgraded model you can get next year.

    You've... obviously never had pets

Question is this: Why do the MASS "pods" do what they're doing with their hands/fingers? I'm not sure that's ever explained. My inference when I first saw it was that they were, in some way, inputting into a remote control of sorts, but I'm still unsure and it wasn't addressed in the recap (unless I missed it). Watched it with my husband and he didn't know either.

So ... theories on that? It must be SOMETHING because it's definitely emphasized several times ... at the beginning and, especially, when he wakes up and the MASSpods are all "sleeping" (or resetting or whatever) totally still and identically posed except for the moving fingers/hands.

IMO: It's the remote control for what they're seeing / feeling. Basically a more advanced version of the eye-implant we see in Nosedive, White Christmas and Entire History of You

This has been my problem from the start.  One of big reasons I'm finding this show less than spell-binding is that there's essentially one flavor of being here - human.  The presumption seems to be, as it so often is, that 'intelligence' basically means 'human intelligence', if imperfectly in Mia (who lacks experience is thus a 'human child'), Odie (who's damaged and so a 'mentally-handicapped human'), or Niska (who's murderous, so obviously a 'human psychopath').

The only real source of drama here is that some actual humans miss the point that the conscious synths are obviously 'human', if constructed.  They're so human they don't even qualify for the old "Is this what you Hoo-mans call ... 'love'?" trope.  They're smart so they must be subject to the same 'feelings' that all humans are, right?  I think the writers took the easy path here and it's to the show's detriment.

I THINK they're beginning to change that this season though. Specifically with Niska going through these tests of emotion and showing none for images of cutsie crap that mean nothing to her as a non-human - yet we know that she is sentient and emotional. It's not trying to show that she's a psychopath, but that she's sentient and emotional, but thinks that human babies are ugly little shrivelled things, with no particular connection to her or her emotions.

They can't have had any deep discussions when she was pretending to be a normal synth. I was also certain that he was going to assume she was one of those Synthies, the humans who pretend to be synths, but no, he immediately accepted that she's conscious!

Pretty sure the synthies would still have red blood, not blue - and it appears that they're not well known about yet. Joe has noticed Sophie, but doesn't know what's going on; and Toby has to ask about the girl at school; and... that's all we've seen, no adults, and one kid at achool who knows what's going on.

  7. The girl at school is a real person who's name they knew before she started acting this way (IIRC).

I'm guessing that it's to give Toby some insight into what Sophie is doing, and help the family out that way, with some insight.

  8. I hope all you new rugby fans from Stateside managed to watch what might well have been the match of the century (so far) in Chicago last night between Ireland and New Zealand.

No spoilers in case anyone will hunt for a replay, or recorded it to watch later.

  9. TBH, I think the American corporation is a way of getting funding out of AMC - too early to see where they go with it.

NB: Dr Morrow definitely has sentient AI already; we also know she wants to protect it, at least from corporate hands.

  11. I know nothing about this actress (beyond a quick google now); but have no problem at all with MJ being non-white. If hair colour is really an issue, then there's always hair dye.

The only thing I would comment on, is that it'd be nice if Hollywood's idea of diversity wasn't always to cast African-American, almost never to go East Asian, or South Asian, Arabic, North African, Euro-Mediteranean or Latino etc; it seems to be black, white, or some combination of the two. Maybe it's my European bias, where we have different Ethnic mixes, but it really stands out to me.

I didn't understand that either. The Danes had just killed all the Saxons in that fortress. And Alfred offers them hostages and one month's supply of food and ale. What?

He doesn't need to re-take the fortress by force -- he can just starve them out. They mention this in the show.

I can't remember if it's covered in the show; but basically, Alfred has no standing army. For every day that he has his army assembled, it's a day the farms go without farmers.

Siege warfare is essentially impossible with a Fyrde.

Of course, Alfred has much greater faith in diplomacy, and belief in the Danes keeping their word... he's still learning how to deal with them.

The official cast of Black Panther:

Danai Gurira is playing Okoye, head of the Dora Milaje. Lupita Nyong'o is playing Nakia, a member of the Dora Milaje, a minor villain of BP's known as Malice. Michael B. Jordan is playing Erik Killmonger, former friend and major villain of BP.

Wait, what? you mean someone called "Kill monger" will be a Marvel villain? surely there's some mistake? sure anyone with a name like that is destined to be the saviour!

  14. So you mean the avengers get a free pass on this one because of pure dumb luck?

After all, according to avengers intel (which they shared with nobody - and yes, they had plenty of time to) - Rumlow etc were going after a police station. They didn't even warn the police in that station that it was thought that they were about to be slaughtered and may want to defend themselves; they didn't consult with locals who could have told them about the labs just around the corner which would make a much better terrorist target; could be defended in the event of a known threat, and could simply remove the WMD aspect in about 5 minutes had the call come through - at some stage in the 16 hour flight from New York to Nairobi.

How long would it take Stark / Rogers or whoever else to pick up the phone, speak to someone in authority in Nairobi, to give them the intel as it stood, and say that we're putting a team in place to deal with it; do you want us to support or lead?

  15. I'm sticking with my Victor=Cassandra theory for now, as he tries to stop Esther's murder, but just delays her long enough for Serge to position himself.

Just trying to work out if he is actually present or is an hallucination / projection - we know he can do that (in close proximity) after all, and if he's not actually present it would explain the lack of aging. Quite apart from which, if he's present, then it means that Serge has the cojones to murder Esther in front of a witness, and not give a damn. I'll go with hallucination - possibly time-travelling.

  16. Finally gotten around to watching Season 2 with the French nieces who come to stay for the summer.

As far as I can remember - there's nothing to say that the reanimated dead don't age; they just don't age whilst they're resting in peace.

The trouble with Victor is that he appears at times after he's dead but before the start of S1 (eg the bus crash than kills Camille and friends). My only thought there is that I'm just assuming he was present there, but he might have been an hallucination or projection into the brain of the driver; or I guess reanimated, crawled out of the lake, then killed by the bus and rests up for another 7 years... or something...

I don't mean to be repetitive from my movies that make you cry post but, ugh, dammit Marley why did you have to die!

    Dog movies are the worst......

Yup - Marley is one of very few that have made me cry as an adult; going back to childhood, I'm still traumatised by the death of Artax in The Neverending Story

I think the running theme for me is innoncents - kids and animals; and generally speaking these are too cynical in their emotional manipulation to "get" me.

My brother on the other hand, can cry at anything; most memorably Bing-Bong

Season 2 filming has started; with Netflix getting involved to provide $$$ and overseas distribution. Premier due "next year", so awaiting scheduling slots.

Hopefully they can use that extra cash to build a boat this time (I know, Vikings? with boats? whoever thought of such a thing?) - better late than never.
