  1. I've always liked to think that the huge multi-year seasons are on top of normal seasons; with King Rob's talk of "summer snows" etc. More like a very rapid exchange of mini-ice ages than seasons as we understand them; with annual seasons going on in the background, which could be counted, along with the phases of the moon etc.

It just makes more sense to me, and I'll continue to think it, even if GRRM blogs something to completely disprove me.

  2.

I love Kieran's evolution and how determined he is to be himself even in the face of horrible pressure from his family.  I feel like the family went too far in their treatment of Kieran and am shocked he'd still live with them.  I feel like they broke a trust by not taking Kieran's word over those who were so obviously biased, keeping him a hostage in his home, and being willing to send him back to Norfolk against his will.  They came around in the end but what they did is something they have to make up for in my eyes.

Goes back to the treatment of mental illness again - isn't that exactly how someone would feel if sectioned?

  3. Etiquette question: would it be possible to discuss information freely in this thread without spoiler tags?

This thread is tagged as "Book Talk"

    So:

If Tagged "Book Talk": There is open air book talk here. If you are just watching the TV show and you don't want to stumble into a potential spoiler you should just avoid these. Book Talk assumes you have read all the books to date. Any information from unpublished books, such as preview chapters should be in spoiler tags.

The only information that needs to be in spoiler tags is anything released from the unpublished books - everything else is fair game in the open.

  4. Wonder if this thread should be under "Book Talk" instead of just Spoilers?

Yes; it should also be merged with the existing casting thread which was less than 2 weeks old when this one was started - back in a sec...

  5. Following on from SilverStormm's question in the proclamations thread, I'm moving the conversation to a thread of its very ownsome - complete with poll.

This poll has 2 questions, so please vote in each; the second question allows for multiple-votes if there are multiple applicable to yourself.

To clarify, the question is relating to once the TV series is complete, and the collector's edition blu-ray* box-set of all 12 seasons** are installed with pride at home. I'm also thinking that knowing that the group will stay together - after a fashion, and continue discussing may help those tempted by the books to resist.

I have moved posts already made in the proclamations thread across - but you'll have to do your own voting - don't be so lazy!

    * Or whatever ends up superseding blu-ray.

** Come on, have faith - this will make 12.

  9. Meh.

One-sided battles, in terms of sympathetic characters, never seems to harm LOTR; and there are plenty of fan complaints about the lack of big, set-piece battles.

A one-sided battle where our favourites are the underdogs, and look certain to go down fighting can also create a lot of tension, and done well, can be great.

There wont' be a big wildfire explosion, but there will be Mamaluk archer-towers... sorry, I mean giants riding mamoths; there will be a charge of the Rohirrim... no, no, I mean Stannis to the rescue; there will be a duel between the witch king and Eowyn.... OFGS! I mean Thorne vs Thormund and probably Jon vs Giant

  10. Hello. My name is Oberyn Martell. You killed my sister. Prepare to die.

    No? How about

    That Vizzini, he can *fuss*.

Fuss, fuss... I think he like to scream at *us*.
    Probably he means no *harm*.
He's really very short on *charm*.
You have a great gift for rhyme.
Yes, yes, some of the time.
    Fezzik, are there rocks ahead?
If there are, we all be dead.

Ok, ok; I'll get the taxi.

  11. So how are they going to do the latest Stark meet fake-out at Craster's camp of... enough-already? (surely, no-one actually believes Jon and Bran will meet up right?; surely we HAVE been paying attention?)

The way I see it, we've got 3 options.

    1. Introduction of Coldhands, possibly amidst a minor invasion of Wights.

    2. Locke scouts ahead and interferes.

    3. Bran Wargs an ex-NW, grabs a sword, and starts swinging - rinse and repeat each time the new body dies.

3a Bran Wargs Ghost to break out and save the day.

    Personally, I want 1 or 3; but suspect it'll be 2

Not bad - 50% is a pass rate yeah?

I'm giving myself a Locke and half a warg (I'd discounted Hodor as being too well chained to break out - I stand by that for anything but plot manipulation)

  12. And one-liners

If possible, include who, and which episode.

Show-only, and for the Unsullied only; so I won't partake (but I'll be personally disappointed if there's a lack of lobster-talk).

  13. We would like to suggest a "house rule" that images be added as links rather than as image attachments within threads.

This is not something that we can or will enforce; but would certainly like it to become the norm for all images, whether a screengrab or a funny, a picture of your cat, or whatever else.

We suggest that this is done by writing a brief description of the what the picture entails, then adding a hyperlink to the image itself (not its host page). This ensures that any images that were originally part of a conversation doesn't include a link to that conversation.

Please always double check your link to ensure that it's gone to the right place, and that there's nothing spoilery in the image title bar.

    Example of end product:

Screengrab of title sequence, showing Astapor.

  14. Personally I always just assumed that QOT used LF as her supplier of lethal poison whilst in a hostile environment and under intense scrutiny.

Sansa was the delivery mule and potential fall-guy; and the chances are that QOT didn't have a say in the matter.

Tyrell plans for Sansa had already been ditched, so they had no further use for her.

If the Tyrells had known they intended to assassinate Joff before arriving in KL, they'd have brought their own, once there though, they need a supplier.

Tyrell thoughts on the Convoluted plan:

We can't get our hands on what we need here.

LF supplies us with some strangler; he's told us it will be on a hairnet worn by Sansa.

If any suspicion comes towards us, we discover that Sansa has a hairnet full of poison, and every motive in the world for wanting Joff dead.

    Sounds good.

LF thoughts on the Convoluted plan:

    OK, I'll supply the Tyrells with some strangler;

I'll implicate Sansa and save her from certain death.

No-one will believe she had the wit to do this on her own, suspicion will naturally fall on her far more intelligent husband, who also has every reason in the world to want Joff dead.

No way Cersei will let Tyrion go to the wall, so that'll be head on spike time; releasing Sansa of those pesky marriage vows.

Later on, the Lanisters will be gone from power, and no-one will care about Sansa being implicated in Joff's murder, especially as someone's already died for it; so I'll be free to marry her in a few years time.

I like the sound of Lord of the Riverlands, Lord of the Vale, Lord of the North. Next target - the Stormlands.

  16. HBO have said that they want to finish the show in 7.

However, that's largely because their standard actor-contract is for 7 seasons, so any longer than that and they'll have to renegotiate contracts - though with this being GOT, not as many as you'd expect for a cast of a couple of hundred.

The 7 seasons announcement was also made before they announced seasons 5 & 6 as green-lit; which I believe is unique in TV history, certainly HBO history.

I feel this announcement, made in advance, is a green-light to spread the 2 books over 2 seasons, probably with at least 1, probably both of the major battles put back into Act II where they belong. They can be planned out, and scripted as one, possibly even shot as one, with the security that they're not going to get the rug pulled out from under their feet. Battle for Meereen S06:E09, with the Battle for Winterfell either intercut with Meereen, or, more likely, built up in S06:E10; probably left on a nice cliffhanger, maybe some tasty Frey Pie? This would also give the writers extra time to meet with GRRM and plan out S07+ before they get to scripting it out.'s what and what the plot beats are.

They won't be drawn on S07+ until they've got to the stage where they have to start planning it out, and finding out from GRRM what

Yes, it means going beyond 7 seasons; which in turn means renegotiating contracts; go to an 8th season, and the only contracts they need to renegotiate are characters still surviving from S01; go to 9 seasons, and you bring in S02's actors as well.

My money's on 8 season at the moment, with 9 being more likely than 7. I expect myself to be calling it quits on the show after S07 (possibly before) as I won't be watching after they overtake the books - I'l still buy the Blu-Rays; they'll just stay in their cellophane until I'm done reading the books.
