    • Thanos' decimation (what do you call a decimation when it's not 10%, but literally half) is going rightly concern nations when it comes the Infinity stones and if they're still in existence and who has them.

    Demimation?

    Hemimation?

Semimation? (A bit too close to semimation maybe)

IDK if any of you have kids around the age of 8-14, but this movie is the biggest thing since sliced bread with that age group. My daughters (age 13) had a school dance at the end of last school year and The Greatest Showman was heavily featured in the song rotation. Friends have had TGS-themed parties. My son is a figure skater and every week at the end of skate camp, they put on a show. Guess what songs they always did? Every competition we've been to has someone doing a song from it. No, it's the best movie ever, but it's just fun. I like that there's a good, family movie that's not animated. My daughter once listened to nothing but Rewrite the Stars for an entire week. She might have a problem.

One of our local primary schools did some of the songs for their end-of-year production a few months back.

Hugh sent them a video message, and a huge bouquet of flowers "to make amends for his absence"

It looks like a double feature boost (studio pairs old movie with new movie at drive-in theaters, both titles get to claim all the money), which is a standard box office accounting tactic every studio uses in attempting to give a movie one last boost. Another method is when the grosses from sneak previews are rolled into the total of a movie that's already out. It doesn't usually happen so late into a movie's run these days, so it doesn't stand out as much, but this is a pretty mild case. If A Wrinkle in Time had been more popular, Black Panther could have been paired with Incredibles 2 and the increase from week to week wouldn't have been so drastic.

That all sounds like shenanigans to me.

I'm calling shenanigans. Hasn't hit that average since May 11-13

  5. Surely it goes without saying that Ginn, or anyone else for that matter, should be prosecuted IF they've engaged in paedophilia.

As for "something that actually happened", I'm sure I read that the thing that happened was that Ginn turned up and walked out on a speaking engagement when he found out that a convicted paedophile was on the panel. If what I read was accurate, then no, Gunn should not be prosecuted.

It's so annoying! Just a week later with the DVD release and it would have crossed $700 million months ago.

Back up to a quarter of the necessary. But then, they did increase the number of theaters by 550% to get that

Black Panther inching toward $700 million domestic is torturous. Disney really should have pushed back to the DVD/Blu-ray release.

I agree, head or heart, they both would have killed, but the heart shot gave Thanos enough time to close his fist, and change everything.

I just watched this last night, so I know I'm late to the party, and this may have been addressed already, but... did Thor know about the necessity of stopping Thanos from closing his fist? From what I remember, Tony/Strange/Quill gang worked that out whilst Thanos was monologuing at them, but  either the Thor/Rocket/Groot crew, nor the Cap/T'Challa/Vision crew had the chance to know that.

It's been so long since this movie came out that there's really no one around to talk about it with, so let me share this with you, long dead forum: I hated this movie. My hatred grew as the runtime dragged on until I was doggedly hatewatching it to the end. I despise pretty much everything about it (except Mark Strong, because I could never). It was a nonsensical, try-hard mess that pretty much ruins any and all excitement I might have had for a 3rd movie.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

  10. Just curious; if magic solves the issues of quills (splitting and refilling) then why move on?

Muggles ditched them as they were impractical compared to pencils and metal quills (AKA fountain pens); magic users don't suffer those downsides.

  11. Fair enough. I wouldn't known who the American counterparts would be.

Sandy hook? Columbine? Wako? Bundy? Unabomber?

The ones that will never be forgotten, are ramped up versions of the boogieman of the public imagination, with documentaries and news headlines made about them 50 years later.

For this episode specifically, I'd recommend at least looking up Hindley and Brady on wiki, you'll see a lot of similarities.

It's late and my mind is not sharp but this episode took me back 50 years to something I saw on "The Prisoner".  At least it felt that way.  Except he was an innocent man and his captors were the bad guys.  Call me a skeptic, but any group of people that would play such deception might even trick the person into thinking they were a criminal when they weren't.  I wouldn't trust them that she was.  They didn't convince me.

A lot of theatrics and attention paid to one person.  Even if it was a good idea (which it is not) how could any society fund such an elaborate endeavor for all its criminals?

They'd need to convince the paying public too (of her guilt); and have legal permission/encouragement - which means a trial and lots of media coverage.

Who said anything about doing this for all criminals? it would be just the most heinous, most well publicised, most hated criminals.

She was clearly baseed on Myra Hindley; who's crimes are still etched on the (British) public's conscience 55 years later.

Since then, the only (British) criminals (that I can think of - and I can name these guys without needing google, you won't find many Brits unfamiliar with these names) that would inspire the public's need for vengence like that would be Ian Sutcliffe; Venables/Thompson and Ian Huntley - and even that quartet don't have the same visceral reaction as Hindley/Brady. We're not talking about random murderer No.4 here; we're talking about criminals who's stories are passed down through the generations.

Of course, it's all still an absolutely terrible idea; and nothing whatsoever to do with justice.

  13. I'm going to my favourites list for Black Mirror as a whole, as I have a feeling that Black Museum is Charlie signing off on the program; which I also feel is good timing. Variations of the theme of Cookies have been done to death now, whilst I feel that the Netflix involvement has neutered Black Mirror a little, and then more so this season, whilst also watering down Charlie's personal involvement in his baby.

For me, Black Mirror is about showing us a promising new technology that could easily sweep the world, and then showing us what could happen when the law of unintended consequences has its say (especially via human nature).

    So, favourite episodes:

2.S White Christmas - everything just goes horribly, horribly wrong as we work our way through the less obvious downsides of Cookie tech.

1.3 Entire History of You - introduces us to the most basic form of what would become a cookie, allows obsessive people to obsess in ever greater detail, and ruin everything in the process

3.3 Shut Up and Dance - shit goes down, getting worse and worse, no particular new tech, but 4chan gets out of control. It helps that I didn't see the twist coming.

2.2 White Bear - just shows the very worst desires for vengeance rather than justice, that gets expressed in cases like this; humans are NOT nice people.

2.1 Be Right Back - I can absolutely see why someone would think this a good idea, and why someone greiving would go with it; it also puts the brakes of the wife's greiving process, which is really not healthy.

4.6 Black Museum - like White Christmas, several stories into one, with tech going horribly wrong, still neutered by a happy ending. When you're showing the worst that can happen (the darkest reflection) happy endings just don't feel right; I've no objection to happy endings, but this is not the show for too many of them.

1.2 15 Million Merits - a really good episode, just taking place in a world that's a bit too different from ours, and a bit too inconceivable to actually happen for me to buy in early on.

3.2 Playtest - I'm sure I'd have enjoyed this more had I been a gamer.

3.4 San Junipero - I enjoyed this, but it's not really Black Mirror

1.1 National Anthem - didn't need much tech, but certainly showed the darker side of human nature.

4.1 USS Callister - unintended for the bad guy maybe, but seems more interested in Star Trek nostalgia and planting Easter Eggs, but still quite enjoyable; just not really Black Mirror.

3.1 Nosedive - it's alright, but not particularly memorable, consequences are a bit minimal

3.5 Men Against Fire - it's interesting, but really doesn't explore the downside of anything much

3.6 Hated in the Nation - decent episode, but nothing that really grabs me, didn't need the last 5 minutes

2.3 Waldo Moment - Just too ridiculous

    4.2 Arkangel - too obvious

    4.3 Crocodile - pretty straightforward

4.4 Hang the DJ - nothing wrong with it

4.5 Metalhead - they're just getting lazy now

There's no bad episodes, they just become less and less like Black Mirror, less and less like Charlie's baby. Those episodes lower down on my list could have come from any other program

    Thanks for the recommendations!

Personally, I'm a fan of the near-future dystopias of tech promising something good, but ultimately coming with too much unintended consequence.

My favourite episodes are 1.3 (this one), 2.1 (Be Right Back), 2.2 (White Bear) and 2.S (White Christmas).

I think Netflix neutered some of that, and reduced the quality when they doubled the episodes and farmed out some of the writing, though 3.3 (Shut Up And Dance) and 4.6 (Black Museum) reach the highs.

The other episodes are still worth watching; but those 6 I keep going back to, even knowing how they turn out.

Of course, everyone's different and takes different things from each episode; trying to get a consensus opinion on any black mirror episode seems like a fool's errand.

It's because Jane and Darcy are separated through most of the movie. Without Darcy, Jane is boring and without Jane, Darcy has no purpose.

What works in the movie is everything about Loki and the fallout from his actions in Avengers. I'm glad they decided to add Loki's trial in the reshoots. It was originally never shown but Kevin Feige liked it depicted in a tie-in comic.

Hang on a second - are you saying that Jane isn't boring when she is with Darcy?
