Wow. That there kind of sounds like prosecutorial misconduct.

Usually trials are moved away from areas of influence.

    Glad he's out.

So I guess "mistakenly" is the new "accidentally on purpose". :(

  2. Ohhhh lord the day has come! I am about to defend Yo on something...

The Leni Riefenstahl book doesn't bother me and I imagine it wouldn't bother a lot of the people protesting on social media if they looked into the important photographic work Riefenstahl did in Africa during the mid-20th century. She documented a vanishing way of life, and did it beautifully. In this case one can separate the work from the creator's past. There's a fairly recent documentary about her time in Africa, if anyone's curious.

On the other hand, I have my doubts as to whether Yo even knows the significance of the book on her coffee table, or why the images it contains are so important, or why the name LR may cause an uproar.

Her face looks quite bloated in that photo posted upthread. I do hate the way she has muddied the Lyme discourse, but hope she isn't unwell.

  3. ^^ Supposedly there were rx drugs involved (regarding Lottie's erratic frame of mind) and she didn't change her testimony until after he pressured her via letters from jail. I guess one theory would be that he's a master manipulator and she is a perfect patsy, the way some people are more susceptible to cults and mind control than others. Or he has something on her. But either way your word - "pathetic" - sums her up.

    Poor little Nick. :(

All in all, though, it's HIGH time Y&R focused on an AA family. But what I have never understood is why when they bring on "random hot chick" or "teenage bestie" they can't bring actresses of colour. The pointless Bethany character could have been Asian. Barbie cop didn't need to be a blonde blue eyed and could have been black. It's really disturbing when I see cast photos of this show and they are so white. It isn't a reflection of population any more.

    It's not that HARD, show.

A thousand time THIS! GC is supposed to be a cosmopolitan city, home to multinational conglomerates and world-famous fashion designers, but the population is strictly white Christian heterosexual, except when they trot out the Winters, all of whom are pathetic, poorly written (and poorly cast in the case of Devonne) excuses for characters imo. It's just bad. If they want GC to be a whitebread Wisconsin backwater then fine, but they can't have it both ways. And you're absolutely right - there's no reason auxiliary characters can't be persons of color. GC should look more like Chicago imo. /soapbox

Patricia keeps it going that she is from Virginia, but she is from Clearwater, Florida. Sudler was her mother's maiden name, and Whitney added it to Smith as an adult to sound more "posh" but it's actually bougey, no?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I wondered where the Sudler came from. What a try-hard.

Inquistr isn't the most reliable source, but I don't have trouble believing Whitney would be at ease with the homophobic slurs. When it comes to anything sex-related he consistently expresses himself like an awkward (and awful) 10 year old boy. Yuck.

I think he really believes it! She has some weird attraction for him, and no matter how crazy she acts, he's drawn to her. She likely has been spouting pseudo-profound shit since the day they met and his booze- and drug-addled brain thinks she's some sort of wise goddess who "truly understands". He's such a dope.

I believe he refers to that as her "physicality". lol

Does anyone else find the Pygmalion sl between Patsy and Landon somewhat distasteful? *sigh* Maybe I've turned into a pearl-clutcher and should switch to whatever glurge they're showing on the Hallmark channel...

  7. I'm many days late (and many dollars short!) to this discussion, but I just finished all of Season 2 and imo the print shop's security tape will have been recorded over by the time Chuck brings charges and gets a subpoena for it. Many of those security tapes are recorded over, day after day. So footage doesn't survive very long unless there is a reason to salvage it immediately, such as cops responding to a burglary. I think Jimmy might get lucky or he already knows this and will ask the clerk to make sure it's recorded over.

And I agree that he can easily say he was simply agreeing with Chuck's allegations because he was trying to placate a crazy person who runs around in a tin foil suit. Jimmy will have the doctor's testimony that he was acutally very sympathetic to his brother and doing everything he could think of at the hospital to humor Chuck (such as demanding the lights be turned off) and avoid Chuck getting committed. If Jamie wanted Chuck out of the way the easist thing would have been to have Chuck commited. Right now it all looks like Jimmy is a loving, supportive, sane brother who would never hurt Chuck. And Chuck looks like a bing-bong lunatic.

Does anyone remember the infamous episode of Intervention in which a young aspiring actress claimed to have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome but was able to run at top speed and jump on top of cars with a "dislocated" hip? She also claims to have what Chuck has - EMF sensitivity. And like Chuck, she is selectively able to cope with electicity when it suits her. I'm dying to know what precipitated Chuck's descent into tin foil madness.

p.s. sorry for the wall of text - I love this show!

  8. THANK YOU, stillshimpy! You're right, I'm riding paved or groomed trails with some inclines, but definitely no mountain biking or rougher trails. The WOWOWO looks like it has a little drop off where my tailbone could get a break, and the big cushy sides look like they'll support my sitz bones. I'll order it and let you know how it works.

I expected to be saddle sore when starting out after a long hiatus, but never thought my actual bones would grind. :(

  10. Did Thomas really tell Kathryn that she has the wisdom of a thousand past lives?!?!?!?!? The thing with this show is it's veered into Y&R territory - the whole thing is so insane you can't tell which parts the recapper is joking about.

Maybe someone will take Whitney's original idea for SC and do a spin-off for us fuddy-duddies who don't think The Kathryn & Thomas Show is the slightest bit charming.

  11. Neurochick: I've opted to stop watching this show and just enjoy everyone's comments here instead, so there may be an added gold-digger nuance from the last two eps I'm not aware of, BUT.... in general, it refers to more than someone who simply happens to marry a spouse with money or a good career. I've only heard the term in reference to someone who is predatory, in that they specifically target people with the right size bank accounts in order to exploit said bank accounts for personal gain. The person with the bank account is insignificant and expendable, in the way that a bank robber doesn't give a shit about the bank employees. Sometimes it ends up being a mutually beneficial transaction, in other cases the duggee is a sad dupe who gets taken for a ride, in other cases the digger gets played at their own game and is left with nothing.

There may not be nobility in marrying someone who is struggling financially or has fewer employment opportunities, but there's no shame in it, either! Personally, I do think there's shame in only measuring people by why their money and social status can buy for you, which is what a gold-digger does. Whether there are any gold-diggers on this show would be up for you to decide. :) Frankly, I think if all Landon cared about was money she wouldn't have left her husband, since the divorce meant she walked away with almost nothing. If she's a gold-digger she's a really bad one! But if she slept with Thomas then she's dumber than I ever imagined, because yeeeeesh he's a fucked up boozy old loser with a personal life in shambles. Surely Landon could ROAM to greener pastures on all those little vacations she takes?

Gawd. Dr. K in particular sees a wide variety of animals with all sorts of illnesses and injuries. That is interesting/dramatic enough on its own without fake, ginned up visits. I also didn't fully understand why the raccoon's cancer wasn't treatable -- too widespread? The Sawgrass woman seemed to expect some options other than putting her down.

Yeah, it's a bit disappointing to spot some b.s. in this show because it's one of the few shows that don't seem all fake and cynical, and I really love seeing all the different animals and learning about their various health needs. As for the euthanasia, I think there may be some financial aspects, besides the really bad place the mass was located in his throat. Sawgrass is a non-profit that is tasked with rescuing/rehabbing the wildlife that comes through its doors as well as running an educational center with full-time animal residents who were not eligible for release. I believe that raccoon was one of the residents as he was listed as an educational animal. The cost of treating a large mass may not have been feasible, plus the additional resources required for his nursing and follow-up care, not to mention what his quality of life would be like through all that treatment which may not even have a good outcome.... nope. Sometimes these non-profits have to triage their resources as much as they triage their patients. :(

Maybe they knew he had a mass but wanted a second opinion from Dr. K or her staff, hence his appearance on the show?

"How to neuter a tortoise" is a fantastic thing to have in your search history!! lol

Have we talked about Tom the vet tech at Dr. K's before? His grooming changed from one scene to the next this week, but in general, his beard skeeves me out hard.

Do we think that owner is really going to put his overweight parrot on a diet? I'm doubtful.

Dr. K's adventures with GPS tortoise tracking were funny, but wouldn't it be easier to keep the gates closed?

Yowza, 9 feet of sutures for that bunny's ear surgery! I guess if I ever get a rabbit, it won't be a lop.

I kinda love Tom the vet tech! I'd be interested to hear his story, as my impression is being a vet tech may be a second career for him. It was hilarious when he said he was worried about cops showing up when he was walking down the road with a tortoise in a wheelbarrow. LOL

The problem with those tortoises is they have quite a sex drive at certain times (nature gotta do what nature gotta do) and even with gates, fencing, and that chicken wire stuff you put at the base of fences to inhibit burrowing... sometimes they find a way. BTW, this is why if you see a tortoise on the road you move him across in the direction he was going. Otherwise he'll just go back on the road because he is heeding a very powerful instinct. Even around here we get people's indoor pet tortoises sneak out and make a run for it at certain times of the year. Well, "run for it" in tortoise terms. lol

I had to call bullshit on the Sawgrass people bringing the raccoon to Dr. K.  Sawgrass runs a wildlife hospital and rehab center with full time staff. They don't have an x-ray machine???

  14. I remember that ep, Andromeda! It made me so sad to watch Pepper's legal ordeal just to get documentation. Yes, I believed that the birth mother trafficked Pepper in the illegal adoption (that's what illegal adoptions are, imo: trafficking), and Pepper was then eventually traded into that nightmarish existence with the woman who kept her in motels and a car. Their story that the babysitter just up and took Pepper, then came back and took her again, doesn't hold water for me. I think some people are in cya mode, though happy to be reunited with Pepper now that she is an adult and they don't have to take care of her, and so long as she lets their lame "explanations" slide. :(

I don't remember much about the sister. The ep I saw focused mainly on Pepper. She seemed like an amazing and resilient woman. Gloria Allred may be a fame-hungry grandstander but she did a really great thing in this case.

  15. Hello, fellow exercizers! I mainly do long brisk walks, hiking, low impact aerobics and some weights (not enough lately!!!) but decided to start riding my bike again as well, and.... "something" in my body has changed because what used to be a reasonably comfortable bike seat is now KILLING my tailbone and "sitz" bones. So frustrating because my heart/lungs and legs could do more miles but my butt bones are screaming and I have to cut the ride short. Ugh.

So for any of you who like to go on long bike rides, do you have a favorite bike seat or seat cover for cushioning you would recommend? My butt and I thank you.

I think Joe Campbell is an ass, and I don't believe his claim of self-defense.  Tim was shot in the back, and I didn't understand what difference it made that it was the first or second shot.  If someone is shot in the back, he or she is not advancing toward you unless he or she is backing up.  All of that about falling backward was hinky to me, and I thought that Joe should be in prison.  As to the land rights issue, the couple that was interviewed said that there had been an unwritten agreement for years that people cut across the land to get to the trials.  I thought the woman even said that Joe himself had done the same thing in the past, but everything changed when he bought the land.  That is hugely hypocritical to me.  This also wasn't solely about Tim.  Joe was horrible to that guy in the video and to that Iraqi war veteran.

    ETA:

The way I understood it was that there was no other land option to get to the public land other than to use the trails that went through Joe's land.  If the land that you choose to buy is next to public land with no other access available, then I'd think Joe has to expect that people are going to use his land to get to the public land.

So it makes sense that the neighbors won their class action suit. And given that he had been doing the exact same thing before he bought the land, well... It would have been better if the judge had ruled that there was an easement in place (meaning access for all, such as the trails I'm familiar with) based on the history of usage but I don't know if the judge had the leeway to do such a thing. I can see where Joe could have had a case to obstruct people if they had a pattern of going off the trails, littering, camping, etc. But that doesn't sound like what happened. And it sure doesn't excuse a murder. And anyway, he knew those trails were used before he bought the place. Frankly, he just sounds like a basic asshole.

I am home after the great Titventure. I don't want to say too much and jinx anything, but the doctor was cautiously optimistic about what they saw. I could go on and on, however, at the superior care I received at "the big city" hospital. These people give a shit about woman's health and were absolutely excellent at relieving so much of my anxiety. I'm also banned from medical websites. Anyhoo, it was like going from Stitch's care to, well, anyone else's. Official results will be in Thursday.

YAY!!! So glad the procedure itself went well and you were treated with compassion.

In the article I read about how women now make up the majority of vets, one said when she first started in the 70s, there were farmers who didn't allow her in the barn for calvings or the like, saying it wasn't proper for a woman to see those things.

    LOL. What a world.

I didn't see this show, but I have learned about puppy mills. According to the nonprofit National Mill Dog Rescue, puppy mill dogs are kept in cages, and they aren't given bowls of water from which to drink. Instead, they are set up with water bottles with nozzles they have to suck on, which are intended for use by rabbits. (This is a link to an example of one.) Because, easier for the mill owner to maintain.

The tragedy for the dogs: that method doesn't get enough water into their mouths to keep their teeth/gums rinsed and hydrated. As opposed to how their mouths would be rinsed if they were given water in a way they could drink it normally. So they end up with tooth and gum problems. Many of NMDR's rescued mill dogs have such bad dental/gum disease that they've lost their teeth. I'll shut up before I stray off topic.

You're not off-topic! The patient was a puppy mill survivor with teeth/gum issues and I appreciate the extra info re: water bottles instead of bowls. Dr. K's dad didn't seem like the most compliant client (don't get me started on the liverwurst) so it's possible Dr. K had instructed him to do daily teeth and gum cleanings with one of those doggie dental tips, but he didn't do it. Actually, depending on the dog it can be a real pain. Not as painful as a tooth abscess, though!

  19. !!!!! Well if you're in enough pain to go to the ER and your specialist is out of town then extra strength tylenol seems like an inadequate suggestion. It sucks to be in that much pain. Fingers crossed his receptionist can get hold of him quickly and you can get the right meds. Sorry you're going through this. :(

  20. I went with the assumption that the public trails go through his property, and if they are established trails with a history of public use then by law you have to let the public use them. That's pretty common with equestrian trails in some areas. The public isn't allowed to go off the trail in any way, but they have the right to use the trail. The simple solution is not to buy property with public access trails if you don't want to deal with people riding on your property. On the other hand, the fact that he was allowed by the court to name specific people who are allowed to used the trails tells me Montana may be different, or the trails weren't grandfathered in as public access. I wish the show had been more clear on this. Or maybe I wasn't listening.

I know a certain washed-up singer who bought property with equestrian trails who makes a habit of being rude and hostile to riders who are well within their rights to ride on "her" trails. She can suck it.

Did anyone else see the repeat of the Sherri Rasmussen case? 23 years later they arrested an LAPD officer who had been Sherri's husband's ex-girlfriend. I was really surprised

    Spoiler

she was convicted, given the shoddy evidence handling and the way LAPD didn't do much investigating at the time

  22. Dr. Thielen is a rock star in my books for saving that poor ferret. And the ferret's human's mother is either very, very stupid or the story was a crock of shit. Kinda sad the ferret went back to the same home but he did look to be thriving at his follow-up exam.

I chalked the dog's bad teeth up to the fact that she had been used in a puppy mill and had therefore not had adequate nutrition/care in her early years, but yeah it's a bit of a wonder that Dr. K didn't flag this issue until now. Having said that... can we see more of her dad? The dynamic between the two of them is adorable. And I'm glad Dr. K didn't listen to her grandmother re: women can't be vets. Look how much good Dr. K does in her profession!

Those parrots were very, very lucky.

I usually pooh-pooh the idea of someone's young children looking up what will be these OLD videos of their parent or parents on reality TV one day and being hurt and embarrassed, but in this case, yeah, Thomas' words may really be painful to little Kensie when she's a curious teenager or 20-something. Who would want to see their parents behave as badly as Thomas and Kathryn have since this show started? Since her teen years are still a long ways off, I kinda hope the technology evolves so much that there's no way to view these in the year 2030. By that point he'll probably have said and done far worse things that she'll witness first-hand...

She won't have to wait to get curious herself when she's grown up - children of reality stars don't grow up in a vacuum and their peers are often quite happy to fill them in on what their family did on national t.v. and social media. And now court rumors, to boot. The daughters of Danielle Staub and Theresa Guidice, the Gosselin kids, Taylor Ford Armstrong's daughter, etc. etc. None of them have had an easy time thanks to their godawful parents acting up and airing dirty laundry on national tv. Kids can be awful to each other anyway, but the amount of ammunition this show has provided? Ugh. Just disgusting. And even if Drunk Thomas saw fit to discuss his son's genitals and paternity on camera, there were a lot of other people involved who could have chosen not to air it. Sorry, but this hits a nerve with me. Once kids are involved it's time to reevaluate how much those ratings and $$$ really mean. Everyone involved in this debacle is shit, imo. T & K should never have been invited back for this season. If the producers and the rest of the cast can't think of anything interesting to do on camera then so be it. /rant
