  1. I was very surprised by this matchup. These two were so well matched, and they gave great performances in both rounds. The music selections were fun as well. This was one of their better shows, either one of them could have won and I'd have been happy with the result.
  2. I just watched Tom Cruise do a Lip Sync Battle with Fallon on the Tonight Show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW1_dUBzJV8. He needs to come onto this show, and do a proper battle. The problem is in opponents... who would make a worthy adversary to Tom Cruise in a Lip Sync? Jamie Foxx? RDJ? Ben Stiller?
  3. I've got to hand it to Justin. He did very well in both rounds Heck, I actually thought he was SINGING the first song. Give the boy credit, he knows how to work a crowd. Sanders was one of the better athlete performers on the show. His take on "Like a Virgin" was most impressive. However, I also thought that Justin was the better performer this time. Sanders would have destroyed Tyson or Stahan.
  4. JK Simmons as Grunkle Ford! This show just gets some great voice actors. Awesome! So, Ford is grownup Dipper and Stan-ley is grownup Mabel. It does explain why Stan-ley gets along better with Mabel than Dipper. Maybe Ford and Dipper would work well together... with Smart!Waddles. Sadly, it looks like the Ford character will just disappear below ground for future episodes. I want him to have more scenes with McGuckett, Wendy, and Soos. But the big thing, like DIpper, I NEED ANSWERS, Ford! I loved the Soos and Wendy phone call at the end credits. Poor Wendy is getting the story from the wrong person. Does this mean that Gideon is the big bad villain of GF? Or is Bill the champ here?
  5. Wow! Allison Brie. She's another top shelf lip sync performer. Will was also good, but he was second tier to Allison. He would have done a better matchup against Merchant or Fallon. Allison needs to face Emily or Kendrick. She also chose better songs. Will lost mostly because of "Who Let the Dogs Out". Bad choice for a good performance. I'd like to get more Community folk on this show. Nicole Yvette Brown, Donald Glover, and McHale would be great at this.
  6. Finally, this is the Vader we've been wanting to see since the mention of prequels. Anakin might not have been shown as the great Jedi and good friend in the prequels, but this is the Vader that is "twisted and evil". He was brutal, clever, and monstrous. He was two to three moves ahead of the rebels the entire time, and was only stopped by an inept commander and a tractor beam. Look at his accomplishments in only a few days. He single handedly took down several A wing fighters and a command ship with only a modified TIE fighter with NO SHIELDS. He removed an inferior, and potentially traitorous, public official while framing the rebels. He burned a town of refugees just because they had recieved help from the rebels. And he found the missing apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. He has evolved beyond the point of calling himself Anakin, preferring to think of him as deceased. The only reason why he is no longer chasing them is because the Emperor pulled on his leash. If the Emperor hadn't decided to send another Inquisitor to hunt them down, then Vader would be chasing them, thus making the season only 3 episodes long. And make no mistake, Vader might be backing off for the moment, but he is definitely going to track down his apprentice before this season is over. The Big Fight between them will happen in this show, it's just a question of when.
  7. As expected, Queen Latifah came out and ruled the stage in both performances. I loved her En Vogue Performance. However, Marlon was a surprise. He was better than expected. His 2nd performance was very good, and just slightly below the Queen's. It was a good matchup, but I think that Marlon would have done better against Stephen Merchant and Queen Latifah would have been great opposite Terry Crews or Jimmy Fallon.
  8. When they cast contestants for the show, the better episodes are the ones where the battle is between actual friends. Hathaway vs. Blunt, Anna vs. John, and now Salt vs. Pepa. Both performers looked like they had a good time. I think that Fallon did a better job with his version of "Since You've Been Gone", but he's been playing this game longer. Both performers did equally well in the first round. The second round was all Pepa. Salt tried, but she was having more fun dancing to the song rather than lip syncing. Pepa looked like she had to stop herself from ACTUALLY singing her song. She knew the song, and lip synced the he!! out of it. Best performance of the night. Next week, Queen Latifah vs. Marlon Wayans. This looks to be another one sided matchup, but at least the Queen's performances should be amazing.
  9. Not bad, certainly not the worst performance-wise. My problem was not caring about the performers before their performance. I did enjoy the song selection, particularly Lonely Island's I Just Had Sex. However, bringing in Megan to lip sync her own song in the no-gimmicks-first-round was weak. That would have been a better option for the second round. Her brother had no problem bringing out the silly in round 2. Looking forward to next week, Salt vs. Pepa. If this one does well, then it could open the door for other music groups to battle. Edited to Add: I just rewatched the final round. Derek had a strong performance, while Julianne may have scarred him for life. Derek's reactions to his sister's performance were priceless. Much better on rewatch.
  10. I love many of the matchups mentioned. Tina/Amy, Pratt/Farris, Donnie/Mark, Matt/Ben, Cameron/Drew, and (mentioned in another thread) Anderson Cooper vs. Kathy Griffin. I'd like to add a few as well. Nick Offerman vs. Craig Robinson. Nathan Fillion vs. Ryan Reynolds. Rainn Wilson vs. John Krasinski. Christina Applegate vs. Emma Stone. Scott Bakula vs. Andre Braugher. Andy Samburg vs. Joe Truglio.
  11. I almost agree with your judging request. I think that, for now, these earlier matchups are good enough without the judging. Though it might be useful in picking winners between 2 good performers, like Hathaway vs. Blunt, it's a waste of time in blowouts, like Tyson vs. Crews. I think the season should be split into 2 halves. The first half is the round robin matchups. Just names from a hat to battle each other. No judging. Let the celebs get comfortable lip syncing in front of an audience. The second half is the tournament. After seeing the performances, then the performers get seeded into a tournament-style matchup with judging. Winners advance while losers are eliminated. The episodes would get more watchable in later rounds, with the championship to be mind blowing. As for Crissy, get rid of her. She brings nothing to the show. No musical talent, no acting talent.
  12. This was the weakest battle so far, but it was evenly matched. Hoda was better at the lip sync, but Strahan had more crowd appeal. I agree with the ruling on this one. Hoda was doing a better job in both rounds. Strahan looked like he was eating the mic when he did it. Strahan was doing better in round 2 until BBD came out. Then he just stopped lip syncing altogether. The best parts of this episode were the song choices (all were easy to sing along), and having BBD come out there and lip sync their own song. As far as cameos go, they did better than JLo by far. They lip synced and did the dance for their song. They should have one the battle. Next week looks promising. Merchant's battle is already a happy time.
  13. Props to Tyson for the effort. His Jagger impression was funny with a hint of stranger-danger. But his Salt n Pepa was one move on repeat, which kinda matches the song. I'm glad he had such a great sense of humor to do this. Terry Crews was as brilliant as I hoped he would. I knew he would be excellent on the Lip Sync, but in round 2... Tyson never really had a chance. My head hurts from laughing so hard at Crews. This was the most one sided matchup yet. He deserves a better opponent like the Rock, Krasinski, or Rudd. I absolutely love the talent that they've gotten for this show. Hathaway, Rock, Crews, and Kendrick were great finds for season 1.
  14. IMHO, the winner is pre-determined. Crowd volume is the measuring tool for the winner, and the crowd are all plants. They'll vote how they're told to vote. If they ever go to a tournament style with the show, then they truly need to have some viewer participation and show the vote counts. For example, I knew the Rock was winning the first battle for several reasons. First, the title was a wrestling belt. Second, he was facing Fallon, who never wins his battles. Third, he closed the show. So far, almost every one who closes the show wins the battle. And finally, four shows in, and everyone connected to the production side of it has lost. Jimmy (Producer), Legend (married to Chrissy, co-host), Emily (married to John and co-creator), and John (married to Emily and co-creator). I'm going to go ahead and predict that Stephen Merchant will lose his battle as well. I'm looking forward to next episode. With Mike Tyson vs. Terry Crews, I don't think either of them are connected to the show. So either one can win.
  15. When I mentioned that Anna lacked in performance, I meant that hers lacked in comparison to John's performance. For both performances, John performed, lip synced and danced, as the actual performers did for their respective songs. John was both JT and Tina Turner, whereas Anna was still Anna. As for them both cheating in Round one, not hardly. John switched mic's. Anna had a video presentation in an attempt to attack John. Anna's bit would have been overlooked entirely if it weren't for her burn on John's wife. JLo's star power was a prop? She was the equivalent of a cardboard cut out. The Emily video had more theatrical value than JLo's arrival. Plus, JLo was a singer on the original song. Why bring her out at all, if you weren't going to have her lip sync her own lyrics to the song? JLo, herself, mentioned after the performance that all she did was come out and pose. John was having a wardrobe malfunction at the end of his Tina bit. When he ripped off his clothes to reveal the dress underneath, the pants didn't rip off clean. He couldn't get them off of his feet. Yet, he performed as Tina, with his feet wrapped up. Difficult to keep your balance under those conditions. His "lack of energy" was him trying not to fall. Anna's act wasn't as intense. She gave 'tude, but John went full diva legend. Anna had to bring one in.
  16. I love this show. I get a solid laugh every episode. However, this time, I disagree with the judgment. John had that won, no question. Anna did a good job of lip syncing. She lacked on the performances though. And let's face it, in the first round, Anna totally cheated. No props in the first round is the rule, and she had the Emily vid. Second round, yes, Anna did have JLo, one of the actual singers of the song, come out for the lip sync. But JLo did not do anything but stand there. JLo didn't sing her lyrics, she didn't even lip sync her lyrics. Waste of a live prop. John completely sold both performances. He had the "Bye, Bye, Bye" puppet moves, and he absolutely rocked the smooth and rough sides of Tina Turner. Underrated performances both. Bad call, show. Edited to Add: Looking forward to next week. Mike Tyson vs. Terry Crews. I may hurt myself by laughing too hard at this one.
  17. This is such a good show. I enjoyed the concept when it first began as a bit on Jimmy's show, and now it has improved. I also like the new format of first round being traditional lip synch, but round 2 is the full production. It shows that some contestants don't need the props to win, but some can get proper use of their props and truly shine. The first two were well matched. This one was one-sided. Anne Hathaway destroyed Emily Blunt. Round one was evenly matched, I might even give Emily the edge for her take on No Diggity. But round two... holy sh!t! Hathaway killed it! She went full Miley. And the blind leap onto the wreaking ball, topped with the one finger salute to Emily, flawless victory. The only flaw in the show, awarding a new champion every week. I like the suggestion from mtlchick, make it an elimination competition. Right now, keep it like this, as a sort of round robin of matchups. But once the show has all of the contestants, seed them into a bracket and let them fight for the belt. Also, I see that Stephen Merchant is going to be on the show. I hope that they bring in Paul Rudd, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Emma Stone as well. I've wanted to see them face each other for quite some time.
  18. Ah. I thought the gap was closer. Shame really. I had hoped that Soos' dad wasn't a complete jerk. Being trapped in another dimension does make for a decent excuse.
  19. Just saw this episode after the Author's return, and it got me thinking... what if Soos' dad is the Author? Someone who Soos has never seen, and only responds by a postcard on every birthday (Who does that any more? Someone with an old soul, or just someone old.) I think that Stan is the one who's been sending the postcards on his brother's behalf with messages that are short and quick. It would explain why Stan has kept Soos working there for such a long time, because Stan cares about his family. It's certainly not his skill, Soos is horrible at repairing things.
  20. Ok, I knew Mabel was in it, but she was either the star or the llama. She's worn both on her shirts. But if she's the llama, then who's the shooting star? Pacifica?
  21. Looking at the Cipher Circle, after this latest episode has cleared up a few of the symbols in the circle. Firstly, each symbol represents a person, so we're looking for 10 different people. The Pine Tree - Dipper (hat) The Chomping Fish - Gruncle Stan (fes) The Star with the eye in the middle - Gideon (tent) 6 fingered hand - The Author (hand) Question Mark - Soos (shirt) Heart with slash - Robbie (hoodie) Shooting Star - Mabel (shirts) harder choices here: Glasses - McGucket (wore glasses before going Unseen) Bag of Ice - Wendy (every time she's on a mystery hunt, ice is involved) Horse/Llama - Pacifica (mainly because she's a Northwest, a rather important family to the town, and the only one not in the circle. Of course it could just as easily be Thompson, Grenda, or Susan.)
  22. This! We FINALLY got to know what that machine was for. Animated Stargate. Stan, or let's just call him Gruncle, still should have told them after the zombie bit. Why keep something like that from family? They should have been told at the very least, why he's using the machine. So, 3 journals for the 3 people working together in Gravity Falls. Book 1 for the Author, Book 2 for Gruncle, and Book 3 for McGucket. If B3 was given to McGucket and he hid it away but forgot about it, then it makes sense. But how did Gideon get either of the other 2 books? And what does Gideon want with them? Also, does each journal have different entries? Or are they copies with the only difference being the machine instructions? I'm getting shades of the Ninth Gate here. Dang it! Now, I have even more questions than I had before seeing the episode. Curse you, Show!
  23. Ahsoka is Fulcrum!?! I truly thought it was the Senator. Well played, show. So, will SWR finally show us the matchup between her and Vader? Dang it! You killed the Inquisitor! He was a great villain! No expectation, no previous SW lore to compare with. I enjoyed his time. But I do like that the show is not afraid to kill... at least the bad guys. But will they kill a good guy? Or a core character? Hmm. And Vader!!!! I'm happy but scared. Anakin was such a disappointment of a person. But Vader is freaking badass, If JRJ still does his voice, and the character holds true to the original trilogy, then I welcome him as much as I welcomed Yoda or Tarkin. But if this is the Prequel incarnation... take him back! Don't ruin my Vader!
  24. No, I meant the pirates that killed the family in Nassau. That event led to Thomas Hamilton's fall from grace, and eventual death. I was wondering if Vane was some how connected to that incident. Maybe he was a part of the crew of a ship that was involved.
  25. Here's a thought about the Flint/Vane feud, depending on the timeline. What if Vane led the assault on Nassau that ultimately led to Hamilton's death? If he was the one directly responsible for the attack, or was at least a major player in the attack, then Flint would have enough cause to kill him whenever the opportunity came about.
