  1. Not sure if this is the right place for this, but sounds like Riley Keough's been involved in some real-life drama of her own: https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/20/business/graceland-elvis-granddaughter-fights-foreclosure-sale
  2. Mother's Day seems a fitting time to start this. I was very impressed by Jodie Comer's performance. Didn't follow "Killing Eve" and haven't seen much else of her work, so this was an eye-opener. Also really liked Katherine Waterston's character, bringing in a bit of comic relief I'm not used to seeing from her. And, of course, Cumberbatch, whose brief appearance was good as always. I've seen complaints that it's slow, which it can be, and too "feminist," whatever that is. I just thought it was an ode to the power of motherhood. Appreciated the cinematography, as well, but Comer was the standout.
  3. I thought the performances were stellar, but Foster's performance is what truly sold it for me. I want to see more of THIS Jodie Foster in the future.
  4. Anyone seen this on Netflix? Excellent performances all 'round (Annette Bening, Jodie Foster, Rhys Ifans).
  5. I love Suranne as Anne unquestionably. I have idly wondered, however, in looking at Anne Lister's portrait from the time, what other actor/actress might most resemble her today?
  6. For any Emma Donoghue fans, her latest, Learned by Heart, is based on Anne Lister's relationship with Eliza Raine, who may have been Anne's first love.
  7. Finally watched this. Cate's performance was devastating. Can't get it out of my head; not sure I ever will. I'm old, so that's a lot of stuff to compare it to.
  8. In re Bathroom Breaks: There's great app called RunPee, that breaks down when the best times for bathroom breaks occur during a film in a theatre. It works!
  9. Don't know if it's accurate, but I heard that KM specifically asked that her character wouldn't be Shane 2.0 twenty years later. No idea at this point what the showruners are thinking.
  10. I'm confused: My understanding of f-to-m transition surgery includes removal of the uterus and ovaries. So how could Micah carry?
  11. Word is that Jennifer Beals, Laurel Holloman and Sepideh Moafi are out for all/most of the season going forward. If so, what's left?
  12. Just watched this again for the first time in forever. Didn't make much of an impression when I first saw it. I did, however, tear up at the end on this recent viewing. BTW: I think Dot dropped it on purpose.
  13. Delurking to say I'm happy that the thread was resurrected. More on Anne Lister's pre-marriage relationships and post-marriage life is included in "Gentleman Jack: A Biography of Anne Lister, Regency Landowner, Seducer and Secret Diarist" by Angela Steidele. Not quite as sympathetic towards Anne as some of the others, but a bit more comprehensive regarding her life. Ran across this interesting tidbit in one of the biographies: Although the Bronte sisters don't appear to have been acquainted personally with Anne Lister, they lived close enough to Shibden Hall that they were likely to have been aware of her and her reputation, leading some scholars to speculate that the character of Heathcliff may have been inspired by/based on Anne Lister.
