  1. She actually told the two younger kids and her parents in the Hamptons, which caused them to lock her in the Panic Room.
  2. Omg, I kept rewinding and rewatching Mare Winningham's scene every five seconds.
  3. Do actors make decisions about staying with series based on learning about viewer feedback? I didn't know that; I always assumed they were removed from TV forum websites, etc., but that's interesting!
  4. The way I remember it, Helen's lecture to Sierra came in the car on the way to Joshua Tree, and the hookup came later that night. Or am I incorrect?
  5. Sane?? Anton is a punk who threw a punch at Noah and has said "F you" to him on more than one occasion. I hope Cole and Noah accidently leave him behind at a rest stop on the way to Princeton. I think the place is adorable but even if I didn't, that was an obnoxious comment.
  6. It's a tired old trope I've seen way too many times. As soon as I saw her tapping on the lid, I thought, "Here comes the part where she thinks she can't get out and panics and then gets released and flees the compound."
  7. I was a frequent visitor to the Altered States Float Center in West Hollywood in the mid-eighties.
  8. I'm actually surprised he didn't say, "Ma'am." That said, Helen could have kept her cool, gotten her aisle directions, and moved on with dignity, but she chose to embarrass herself by pointedly inquiring about the pregnancy test kits, undoubtedly provoking cackles from the youngsters.
  9. If they aren't married now it behooves them to tie the knot now, given Vik's medical situation. The spouse of a terminally ill person has the ability to make medical decisions toward the end and has an easier time with hospital visitation, etc. The first thing a close friend of mine did upon finding out she had a brain tumor was go down to city hall with her long term boyfriend and get a marriage certificate.
  10. And it was Yoko who sent John to California but she was secure in his love, and he did in fact return to her, fully. Perhaps Cherry had a similar confidence, however it was apparently delusional as Gabriel returned only under threat.
  11. I once had a convertible. If I so much as stopped into a drugstore for 10 minutes, I closed the hood. Someone could easily steal what's in the car, or it could rain, or someone could (especially in California) slash the seats. But I have noticed that in TVs and movies no one ever closes the hood. To me it seems almost a screw you, this is all replaceable kind of attitude.
  12. Very low overhead when he was sleeping in Helen's basement and then in her room with just a suitcase.
  13. IMO if they were going to reuse the bottle, the actor dropped the ball because he should have faked the cap resisting when he tried to open it.
  14. I noticed he left his tote bag behind when he went to chase after Allison after she fled from their practice session.
  15. That's a waitress sucking up for a tip. I've done it.
  16. I realize there are like zero people watching at this stage as I am a latecomer but there are some things I need to get off my chest just for my own sanity. Why does the show continue to gloss over important plot points by skipping months and even years into the future? It has already been discussed the oddity of no reveal to Cole about Joanie’s paternity, the Cliff’s notes-y kind of fast-forward through Allison’s time in the institution, with Joanie suddenly 4-5 years old, but then things got REALLY weird at the end of Season 3 to the beginning of Season 4. People have talked about how is it Noah can become a teacher at the charter school after serving time as a felon. But how could he also have been a college professor as well? In the penultimate episode of Season 3 we see Noah at his absolute worst, cowering on the floor of his disgusting rented apartment, having realized in a Beautiful Mind-y kind of way that pretty much everything related to Gunther has been a complete hallucination, AND that he had also in fact stabbed himself. Then the credits roll and one would expect that the next episode and last episode of Season 3 would perhaps be the immediate aftermath of that realization or at least a few days later. But no….he is found living it up in Paris, staying at a hotel, hanging with Juliette (where did he get the money?? What happened, by the way, to his professor job?) So now in Season 4, we are not told immediately what happened to him after the cabbie asked him the question, “Where to, buddy?” Yes, where to, indeed? Where did he go? Did he still have the dingy apartment in New Jersey? Did he stay at a hotel? On Christmas Eve? With what money? But no, we are not told any of that. Instead, fast forward again and after a brief scene with Noah and Cole (and a pay phone? Hello 1995), then we flip back to 6 weeks earlier which is god knows how long since his return from Paris, enough time to get him and Helen and the kids and Vik moved out to Los Angeles. It does seem like Vik finally took that surgeon job he had been offered the night of Cole’s wedding (when was that Season 2?) He must be one heck of a surgeon. As I recall he was drinking (and drugging?) and hooking up on the job but who knows, maybe he is quite skillful. Having lived in LA I can tell you that is a multi-million-dollar home. Where? I can’t be sure. The Hollywood Hills? The Palisades? Anyway, it is a huge stretch to think that even a top surgeon would be able to afford a home that large and grand (with an actual pool outside Trevor’s bedroom, mind you). But nevertheless, this is what the show is giving us with typical Helen complaining about everything, the only saving grace in her mind is that her parents are 3000 miles away (some day she will miss their meddling like every clueless child who doesn’t realize the value of having parents that are actually alive). I truly don’t get this character as she becomes more and more loathsome every episode, now actually saying “F you” to her therapist, the lovely and mild Dad Keaton from Family Ties. Of course, Noah is also living above his means. Aside from the afore-mentioned job at the charter school (is he still on parole by the way? If so, how the trip to Paris, how the move?) Anyway, another beautiful house that a teacher of his standing could not likely afford. I guess I will hang out for the real estate porn and rank curiosity but this show is really asking me to suspend disbelief that is beyond reasonable. I hope they don’t go all Noah coming to the aid of the brilliant (or just good memorization?) but at-risk youth and as a result coming to a greater understanding of himself, yada yada it’s been done before, and better. It looks like from previews he will be getting involved with an African American woman (the principal? Anton’s mother?) And I agree with other posters that Avocado Goat Lady will be the love interest of Helen, not Vik, presumably to help her relate to her about-to-come-out son Trevor, who has always been my favorite. Vik’s mother is a hoot! I don’t think she is age-inappropriate to be his mom. I’ve always thought Vik was supposed to be about 10 years younger than Helen, which puts him at mid-30s with her around 60. By the way, did Helen and Vik they ever get married? I don’t see a ring on Vik’s finger. Lastly, just a note to production staff from a real fledgling novelist: I have written an extremely bloated 120,000 word novel and the hard copy comes to literally 1/5 the size of the manuscript Noah’s coworker is trying to pass off to Noah to give to his agent (in this digital age, by the way), so the props department might want to size that down a bit.
  17. I am thinking Gunther doesn't know Noah from swimming at all and that story is just a cover. Noah clearly didn't remember him and tried to fake like he vaguely did. I'm wondering if he has a past with Alison, hence his violent reaction to seeing her photo in Noah's cell.
  18. However she's only known him for a day so that's not likely, even if the caretaker appeal were there. She was fascinated by something on the shelf, looked like some kind of medieval Bavarian beer.
  19. Oh please please can someone still be watching this so I can get some feedback here. The first episode of this season, at Noah's father's funeral started with "Three Years Later" i.e. 3 years after Noah confesses guilt in the courtroom. This episode is "One Year Previous." So this episode is 2 years after Noah's confession, and we get a convenient recap via Oscar and Alison of the past six months. Thus there is an 18 month gap of time between Noah's confession and Joanie's sickness that has been unexplained, and this is what I don't know and I think the writers don't care that I don't know and this is pisses me off: What happened to the deal of Cole and Alison co-owning the Lobster Roll? Did she sell her portion back? And what happened to her relationship with Noah? Why is she refusing his calls and letters when he took the blame for her? I suppose it's possible I could hate her more than I do but I doubt it.
  20. Not to mention that people don't usually meet in restaurants for a quick discussion. They pick up the phone or send an email. But it's TV.
  21. I think in one episode they said Elena lived at 103rd. That would be 39 blocks, about 2 miles, 40 minutes, and doable. But in heels? Not me anyway!

I wonder if this was the inspiration for the great Glenn Close movie, "The Wife"?

The Noah interview appears to take place around 10 years in the future. In one episode during a break from the interview he is on the phone with his son Trevor about his "thesis," making him possibly a college freshman, whereas in the present time he is around 8 years old.

I despise the entire Lockhart family. They are annoyingly similar to the Ewings, always preaching family honor despite being involved in deplorable business dealings. I particularly hate Cherry, who doesn't even have the warmth of Miss Ellie. Telling the story of Cole in his wayward stroller (and her maternal intuition that her son was in danger) to a woman who lost her son in an accident was an evil shiv to the heart, especially when it was meant specifically to hurt and as a basis for her to then go all mama-bear protector to her precious Cole. I wanted to shoot her on the spot. If I were Alison I would have let lose verbally and certainly would have tackled that old bat right there in the kitchen before I allowed her to burn up that note on the stove flame.
