  1. Our local channel is also affiliated with MyNetworkTV, so we don't get The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, or Green Acres. I'm not sure we would get Andy Griffith on it, anyway, since the local CBS affiliate airs that weekday mornings.
  2. As a person who has always lived in the south, the constant waving for other drivers to go first at four-way stops can be frustrating. If you want to be friendly, do so by making the process of getting through the intersection as seamless as possible. There also seems to be a lot of drivers who run at ~45 in 55 zones in rural areas and keep that speed when they enter more settled places, even as the speed limit drops to 35 or lower.
  3. It is kind of silly, but I like to think that they chose Rue because Vicki Lawrence herself was so young. Vicki was born in 1949, so all of her "children" were at least fifteen years older than she was.
  4. I may be wrong on this, but syndication rights aren't dependent on the original network. In this particular case, Touchstone Television (owned by Disney), produced the show. When it went into syndication, Buena Vista Television (also owned by Disney) distributed the show to stations. In 1996, Disney bought ABC, later (in 2007) changing the name of Buena Vista Television to Disney-ABC Domestic Television. Incidentally, ABC co-owned/s Lifetime. It is so nice seeing the show without cuts and weird commercial break inserts. I'm watching relatively slowly rather than binge-watching, so I'll have to wait to see if they include the entire discussion on getting rid of their microwave oven during the episode when Blanche gets a pacemaker.
  5. Not to steer anyone away from television on a TV board, but if you're bored of the same What's My Line? episodes, almost every episode still known to exist is uploaded at https://www.youtube.com/user/WhatsMyLineCBS/. The current count is 758 episodes spanning from the series premiere in 1950 to the finale in 1967. If you're worried about legality, Goodson-Todman never posted copyright notices on the show's episodes aired on CBS.
  6. Peter Cetera's "The Glory of Love." In the UK, it was Chris DeBurgh's "The Lady in Red." My mom, however, was a country fan, where it was The Judds' "Rockin' with the Rhythm of the Rain."
  7. E is for Eduardo the hairdresser. I still burst out laughing at the reveal of their makeovers.
  8. F is for Aunt Fran, Rue McClanahan's character in _Mama's Family_.
  9. D is for Dreyfus, the Westons' dog. Just don't get Sophia to watch him.
