Those are awesome!  Like I mentioned before I have a very limited skill set.  Baking ok, decorating HELLS no.  I can barely make recognizable stick figures.

I’ve noticed everywhere I've been shopping that stores have some variation of a red truck in all sorts of Christmas decorations.  I wonder what that’s about.

I cannot draw to save my life but I can pipe me some designs.  I think it's because when you do it you are breaking it down into basic shapes, not really drawing.  I had no idea until I helped my nephew with some wedding cookies for his wedding shower.  Whodathunkit?

That was 3 years ago and I can make all kinds of stuff now.

I made a better truck but made the door like a wood grain.  I'm horrible and forget to take pics.

The finished product.  I would be sent home if this were a competition because in the oatmeal coconut cookies you can’t taste the coconut.  Lorraine would be so disappointed in me!

The oatmeal coconut are at the top, then the butterscotch chocolate chip (some were under baked which was weird but they are still yummy) then molasses at the bottom.

The molasses cookies don't look like the ones I’ve ever seen in the store but holy moly are they good.  I could eat every single one of them.

That’s enough baking until next October for me!

And can I just tell you the heart attack I had.  The last batch of cookies were a pan of molasses, I put them in, walked away to do something, started reading the newspaper again...turned and looked and the timer was not on!  Thankfully I could figure out how done they were while looking at them so I didn’t overdo them.

    Butterscotch Chocolate Chip sound divine!

My decorated sugar cookies so far this year:

The sugar cookies with the isomalt windows in them were gorgeous, and I had a feeling she would win.

I felt so bad for the penguin lady when that one judge said her lemon cookies tasted like floor cleaner. I know that using zest with a bit of extract would have made for a better result, but that seemed pretty harsh.

The third-place woman was kind of driving me crazy. Every time she messed something up, she would say "I hope the judges don't notice", but of course they did.

It always cracks me up when they have a huge flaw and think the judges won't notice.  After going a round of judging with that horrid bitch in the middle you would think she'd know there was no way she was getting out of that one without a comment.

I hope they don't have that judge back.  I'm a big fan of constructive criticism, but that lady was just down right rude and high handed.  The people that don't like Lorraine on Holiday Baking need to check this woman out - she makes Lorraine look like a shrinking violet.

Lerome cracked me up with his gingerbread "leprechauns" made from what was so obviously a reindeer head cutter. I like glasses guy (Doug?) but he should have been the one to go this week. Dan crapped the bed in both heats but his tiramisu was more tiramisu-like than Doug's sorry little dessert languishing at the bottom of that trifle dish.

If this doesn't prove there is some kind of fix in I don't know what would.  Don't get me wrong out of the two I also would rather see Doug continue, but there is no way in hell Dan's was worse than that half full gelatinous mess that was Doug's dessert.  They are supposed to start with a clean slate each round, but that was obviously not true here.  They don't get to see the critiques of the other people's desserts, so Dan probably assumed Doug's was delicious.  He had to be PISSED when he watched this last night.

Lerome is my dude to win, but I must admit that Sarah is consistently doing better and better.  I really like this group.

You're not the only one.  I thought his cake looked just like a birch tree but there was little to no holiday in it.  I also thought it was a relatively easy idea, if you knew what a birch tree looked like.

I liked Chantals cake but thought it got a wee bit busy looking.

Honestly, I liked the little girl's cake the best.  It was festive but simple and well done.

I gasped when Laromes cake was sliding around.  That's what happens with such a short baking/ cooling/ decorating time.  That's why the bakes are either very simple (to give more time to decorate) or very plain (more time spent on taste).

Does a cake cooled in a blast chiller lose texture?  I don't know, never had one.  I would think it may not be as moist?

Freezing actually traps the moisture in the cake.  When I make cupcakes I wrap them in plastic wrap as soon as I can bare to touch them and throw them in the freezer.  The fridge will dry them out, but the freezer stops it and traps all that steam coming out of them inside the cake.  Makes them super moist!

Although I thought it was very well done I also didn't think Doug's cake had anything to do with the holiday season.  It was a smart decision though because for the hand painting challenge that was by far the easiest look to achieve.

I like the girl who is not Chantal's cake the best.  I still don't know all these people's names...lol

  6. Phew I was afraid Lamore was going to get the boot.  So far in this competition he's making the deserts I want to eat, so I'd hate to see him go.  I wonder if his strengths don't lie in design, which would be a shame because in that finale looks have won over taste every season.  Holy Jolly Erin proved that with her awful tasting gingerbread that looked awesome.

Julia wasn't portrayed as a big A-Hole like she was on the cookie show, so at least she got to come back on TV and not be a pompous ass this time around.  That's a win for her.

I really like all of the contestants that are left.  I don't know what it is but ever since season 4 it doesn't seem like they do as much actual "baking".  Sure last nights episode they had to make a cake, but it seems like there is a lot of making a simple crust with a custard or mousse.  I think the show has been trying to have more challenging bakes, forcing the contestants to do that kind of stuff in the time period.  I don't see why they don't realize that baking in itself is it's own drama.  You can make something a hundred times and 101 have it fail.

  7. There are people that are just naturally different, and then there are people that try to act different because they want attention. That annoying ass woman obviously fell in the trying to get attention category.

I wish they would have a challenge on here that gave them the actual time you need to make a beautifully decorated cookie just to see what their chops really are.

I can't believe that Sarah only used Duff to draw leaves on the plate that ultimately had no bearing on the dessert.

That was about stupid!  A pro could make a component for the dessert in 10 minutes.  Hell I could make a component for a dessert in 10 minutes..

The lady that left bugged the ever loving crap out of me, so I'm okay with the fact that she was royally screwed and in a no win situation lol

Yes! She was very arrogant on the show, and I was so glad she did not win!

I don't think I've ever wanted anyone to lose so badly as I did in her episode. She was a complete a-hole on that show. They just reran it the other night and I remembered where I saw her from and how much I couldn't stand her.

  10. I've got to hand it to Penn. The way his monologue changed in this episode from Charming to downright creepy was genius. I also liked Beck's internal monologue when she was writing. It was so true to the times. During most of this season I think a lot of people thought she deserved what she was getting just because of the way she looked and the way she acted. Sound familiar?

That was Aarti Sequeira who has judged on a lot of FN shows.  I don't think she has any particular baking expertise but then neither does Ree Drummond.  Dan Langan is the actual expert on the panel.  Anyway, she was quoting her small daughter, not saying "cutie tootie" in her own right, so I gave her a pass on that.

Wasn't Dan just on one of the Spring Baking Championship shows?  I wonder why Food Network has to bring back these people that were just competitors as judges?

Especially the first one. Those cookies didn't even look as good as something my 4 year old niece would make. The second one, I thought her cookies were cute but damn with the hair hanging down. I don't know how the judges can eat that shit cause you know they know.

My favorite cookies for the cuteness factor were the flamingos with little Santa booties. I think I'll have to work some of those in this year when I do my decorated cookies. Tastewise, the way they were going on about the Mexican chocolate snickerdoodle makes me really want to make that one. I need something new to add to my repertoire this year. Also, who cares if the gingerbread men didn't have pants? I wouldn't have put any on there either.

I've never seen Ree Drummond's show but I'm fine with her here. She's cute. According to my post last year(which I barely remember) I hated the other female judge so I'm okay with the other judges this year. I didn't like cutie tootie comment(seriously, no-one cares) but I didn't yell at the TV, so a step up I guess.

I was thinking the new female judge would be alright and then we got the cutie tootie comment.  I didn't yell either but my eyes almost rolled out of my head.

Love the surprise on the booted faces.  That one girl with her stringy hair and double dipping and rubbing snot off with her hand.  OMG I can't imagine anyone would pay a visit to her bakery after watching this show!

Kinda happy Salty Smurf is gone.  The “lookatmeee, I am a rebel arty type!” rainbow colored hair some contestants have just bugs me for irrational reasons.  Looking at her cutesy, dyed-to-match blue hued food week after week would be too much for me to take.

I wouldn’t last very long on any show “judged” by Nancy.  If she ever told me there wasn’t enough of the <<surprise!>> alcohol element in my bake, I douse her serving with a puddle of cognac/brandy/schnapps, and set it on fire.  Bet she’d feel the burn of that bourbon as it flambés those stupid glasses perched on her head.

That Brazilian ganache (not the right name, but I can’t remember what she called it) looked awesome!  I need to look up that recipe when I figure out the proper name.

Brigadeiro ganache.  It is awesome.  I've only made Brigadeiro truffles, never used it as a ganache but I'm sure it's just as amazing.

Does cut off finger work for thumb print security? I thought it has to have warmth. Anyway, I'm glad Paco is avoiding Joe now, less chance for Joe to be his Mr. Mooney, who encouraged his serial killing. Is Mooney a serial killer himself, I wonder...

I think they pretty much insinuated that Mooney molested him at the very least with this episode.  When Joe went to him and confessed what he did to the dude that signed Candance he told him to undress, so I was thinking he must have beaten the dude to a pulp or something.

Turns out he just pushed him off a roof, so getting rid of clothes or anything like that would be totally unnecessary.  I think they showed us that and the creepy hug to let us know he did quite a bit of damage to Joe.

What the HELL was that thing Michelle made? I don't think I've ever seen something so bad in the finale before. Damn.

Glad my girl Lindsey won. I loved that she had a dude gone splat with the blood and everything. Girlfriend did not shy away from the macabre this season.

It was like she wanted to make a zombie even though she had a ghost theme and it turned out looking like a mermaid so she called it the ghost of a zombie mermaid.  Idiotic.

I liked Lindsey too and wanted her to win.

I don't get the tight time limits on these shows.  All it does is undercut the quality of the final product...  it all looks half-assed.

Supposedly, you have a room full of talented bakers, so give them adequate time to fully showcase their capabilities, and present a complete product.

The time limit, not only adds NO value, but it actually hinders the potential "wow" factor.  Give 'em time to do what they do.

This is definitely not a show like The Great British Baking Show.  Even on that show where they know what they will be making and have a whole week to practice people run out of time.  I take this show for what it is - a game show.

After the scramble for the gun at the end of the episode I'm having a hard time believing that Joe managed to get off a shot that would actually look like Peach did it while committing suicide.

I assumed that he didn't shoot her, he killed her another way.  He just got the gun away from her and it went off.  That's the way I saw it.

Geez, how did some of these "chefs" get on this show?  The guy with the green hair couldn't fashion a scarecrow and the know-it-all girl didn't know what a hockey mask looked like!  Even if you haven't watched hockey games, the murderer in Halloween wore a hockey mask.  Their presentation skills are lacking, too.  I would try out for the show except I'm not "perky" enough and I can't be away from my job for weeks on end.  Lorraine in that woodland fairy costume looked great.  "Mozart" looked like Beetlejuice.  Why do I watch this show?  (head in hands)

That Jason dude that won the Holiday Baking one said it is filmed over like a week and a half period, not every week.  I read an interview he did and he didn't even tell anyone he was competing, that he just said he was going on vacation or something.

What I don’t get is this: Dr. Now tells a patient to “lose tirdy pounds in one munt” and by following his diet plan, they actually DO IT. (I’m talking about the good ones like Diana) And most of them don’t do anything extra like exercise or walking around the block. Just by changing their eating habits they lose these large amounts of weight in a relatively short time.

Now I decided I needed to lose some weight (actually my scale decided for me) and I have changed my eating habits. I’ve been eating healthy foods, no carbs and no sugar, alcohol or caffeine. Sticking to 1200 calories a day. I’ve been doing this religiously for almost 3 weeks and have lost a total of only 6 lbs. Plus I try to move around more.

i just don’t get it. How do these massively huge people lose all this weight and I just lose a tiny bit in the same time frame.  And they don’t exercise either! Life just ain’t fair.

Bigger people burn a lot more calories just to live.  To put it into perspective, my best friend and her hubby lived with me for a while.  He is very large, probably pushing 400 at 5'10.  We all got fitbits, and his wife and I on a lazy day probably burned about 1800 calories.  He was at almost 5,000 in the afternoon and got embarrassed and took it off, claiming it had to be wrong because he didn't eat that much, so who knows how much it would have been if he wore it all day.

He's a drinker and a big eater, and also had a car full of fast food bags, so I believe he ate that much.  I know there can be genetic conditions out there but no matter the cause we are overweight because we eat more calories then our bodies burn.

His wife and I both got to our goal weights and have maintained for a year now.  I lost 65 pounds and she lost 40.  To lose a pound you have to have a deficit of 3,500 calories, so someone large on a 1200 calorie a day diet is going to drop it like it's hot until they get smaller because they burn so many more calories just existing.

This is the second season for this team. Carla's the only one who's been on the show all four seasons. The first season had Ron Ben-Israel and Sherry Yard with Ms. Hall, which I still think is the best team of judges they've had for any of the Baking Championships. Second season had (ugh) Damiano along with Sandra Lee.

This episode was definitely a breath of fresh air after the just-completed mediocre Kids cycle. It seems like they've amped up the Halloween...ness of things this year, which suits me just fine. The main challenge was interesting, since they recently did something similar on GBBO, and a lot of the posters on that board (and I) had never seen it before. And yes, I agree that Andrew got lucky that Brian bombed harder than he did. Neither of his creations worked very well. I also wasn't a big fan of Lyndsy at first, but the fact that she actually told a story around her creation earned her that win.

Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Sherry Yard and Ron Ben-Israel were awesome!  That was a great season except it had that mohawk guy that makes the rounds of all the baking competitions who is super super annoying.  I think his name is Jason and FN must have been trying to make him happen or something with how many shows he was on.

Yeah.  I think I like the sequel even more.  I like Penn on this show but I certainly hope, when they do the third book, that they won't switch things up and have the person doing the TV/film start reading the books they way I think they have with Bosch.  I still prefer Santino's narration.

Moving onto the book vs. show, in the book, didn't Joe cut Benji up into little pieces?

I think you're right - he did.  He also had zero problems disposing of the body as opposed to the show which had him throwing up and acting like it made him sick.  I think they are trying to make him more sympathetic for the TeeVee crowd.
