Whether it was set up or they weren't invited to be part of the scene, the optics were bad imo. If they weren't part of the scene, it may have been a good idea for them to disappear out of camera range. I fully realize that families divide time on holidays, but Caleb and Maddie weren't even married at that time and you only get one chance to say a final goodbye to a mother or father. ETA. Just realized I didn't answer your question re. stating he didn't spend holidays with his family. Following the timeline, Caleb and Maddie were living in Wyoming at the time (I think), not sure where his parents lived but C&M traveled to LV to spend holidays with the Browns. His mother passed away soon after.

I find Maddie to be the most self-centered, irritating of all the Brown spawn. If the conversation isn't geared to her/Caleb/Axel, she is totally uninterested, but when it does switch to her, she immediately flashes her toothy grin. This was most evident when discussions of Mykelti/FT wedding were taking place, but what I found unforgivable was her total lack of interest when they were examining Ysabel's x-rays. She didn't move from behind the kitchen island (neither did Caleb) and she casually stood there munching on an apple, then playing on her tablet without even a glance at the scene playing out. Caleb has adopted the persona of a good ol' boy to fit with the image of what Kody expects from him. He chose to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with the Brown bunch when his own mother was terminally ill and she passed away a few months later.

Thank you @NotinKansasanymore, for taking the time to lay this out in chronological order. This is the same way I saw all this play out.

So many worthwhile things she could have done instead of cultivating a relationship with a stranger. She could have stayed in college and pursued that degree she said she so desperately wanted. She also could have provided a safe haven for young women escaping the bonds of Fundies. She had plenty of spare bedrooms and experience in helping at risk youth. She could have been there on the front lines transporting them and providing a home and shelter. That would have filled her "empty nest" and empty heart.

Robyn and Christine will explain to us, once again why polygamist women don't go to the hospital to give birth..."because they don't want to get the father in trouble by having to put their name on the birth certificate". When the young adult Browns are interviewed, Maddie will roll her eyes and look dis-interested when the topic moves from her birthing experience to Mariah's coming out, FT & Mykelti's wedding or Ysabel's scoliosis.

Meri will gloss over the part where Cheryl was a single unattached woman when she engaged with the catfish. She won't confront the fact that at the crux of Mariah's anger with Meri was the reality that Meri was technically sneaking around and lacked the integrity to either bail out of her marriage or cut off the flirtatious texts before they got out of hand.

It appeared to me that the family had an inkling that the conversation was going to take place and the scene was enacted for the cameras. Robyn sat there nonchalantly slurping her soup, I think she at least, was in on the story and if Robyn knew, so did Kody.
-
In my jaded opinion, Meri's "fear for safety of family" was a cover-up she came up when when the story was exposed.

I don't get the the orchids, but the green-ish one is money. Every grad loves and appreciates that.

Thank you @Roslyn for your detailed, thorough response. You have opened my thought processes in a way the Brown's have failed to do. Much appreciated.

Janelle Brown: Smarter Than Your Average Brown (Maybe)
Sandy W replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
These co-op subscription boxes are new to me, I remember eons ago there were "freezer plans", where one would subscribe specifying meat ratios, ie. 50% beef/20%pork/30%chicken and the same specifics for vegetables. I have never subscribed to one as I actually enjoy hauling myself to the supermarket and basing my choices on the freshest, most appealing, best priced selection on any given day. I can see the advantage for persons that may have difficulty in the form of physical restrictions availing themselves of this type of service, but Janelle would no doubt benefit from getting up from the sofa, getting in her car and trudging the supermarket aisles. -
I believe as soon as TLC pulls the plug on the income stream, ol' Mare will saddle up her excess baggage and ride off into the sunset of Parowan.

Some things this monogamist will never understand:- -Given that the ratio of male to female births is roughly 50/50, how can polygamists justify one male accumulating 3 or more mates as their passport to their celestial planet? If it is based on survival of the fittest, most capable males, Kody Brown is a poor example. I doubt that he could effectively lead in a monogamist relationship. -How do women find it acceptable that they are only entitled to a fraction of a male and that their children have to divide the attention of their father with multiple other households? -If Meri's religious convictions explain her rationale for staying in a relationship that she is clearly not a part of, why was she willing and eager to cast aside her beliefs when a more enticing monogamous Catholic "male" presented an opportunity to escape? I'm not asking to be provocative, the first two questions are the reason I first tuned in to watch SW and after 8 or more years, I am still no closer to understanding.

First question most people would have asked camera crew in LR......where is everyone?
-
Ohhh, but don't forget that Meri bought it lock, stock and barrel. Dated appliances, soiled ghost chair, doilies and dollar store tchotkes. Victoria is laughing all the way to the bank.
-
I would LOVE to book all the rooms at the Inn and enjoy the "tell-all" this Sunday in the comfort of Meri's living room with my fellow snarkettes. We could doll ourselves up in LLR and enjoy some nachos and bananas while exchanging live comments. In the morning, we could be on our merry way after a satisfying breakfast of frozen cinnamon rolls.
-
I don't think it's been established how long Victoria has owned the house and it could well be as Kohola3 said, there could have been several families that lived there since Meri's ancestors. If that was the case, Meri's family vibes may have departed with previous owners.

I used the term "Target or some such store", before I had a chance to review the actual tweet. My bad, shouldn't have cast aspersions on any store in particular.
-
Robyn tweeted Nov. 15, 2013:---"Big Box Stores! CUSTOMER SERVICE BEGINS WITH A CLEAN RESTROOM! Sad when good toilet seats are 4 sale but not provided for your customers!" I am not on twitter, so I had to dig around a bit for it, but the quote is still out there in the universe.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if Robyn did and invited Meri over for dinner, then asked Meri to get Sol ready for bed in his Batman jammies.

One and the same AC. I too hope for good things for Aspyn, glad the fiance has distanced himself from FLDS.
-
Sheesh Meri! Wake up, blocking people because they tell the truth isn't productive.
-
I did the same, forgot the MBR is on the main level. I'm sure there wasn't dead reverent silence in the overcrowded bathroom, she knew where they were, but I guess Meri felt she had extended herself just by showing up.
-
I wonder who they will have as moderator this time around. I would love to see Soledad O'Brien take them on, she can be brutally blunt and bluntly brutal.
-
Did you ever read the Robyn Rant she put out there when using the facilities at a Target or some such store and the toilet seat wasn't up to her standards. I guess she thinks she has such public influence that she can deter shoppers from patronizing an establishment because the throne wasn't suitable for her.
