  1. That's who I forgot! I think you're right. I'm blocking them out as I don't believe they should be there. Here's hoping they don't place/medal.
  2. Carol doesn't like the scoring right now. She's disagreeing on the score for Chock and Bates and thinks they should be lower. Are there five teams left to skate? Canadian, American, Italian, and of course the French team. Who am I missing?
  3. The Korean woman looks like she's had some wardrobe adjustments to her dress. It's looking a little more secure tonight. Hopefully no unwelcome and distracting surprises for her in tonight's dance. It's been mentioned previously, but I have to wonder who thought the see through material for all the guys was a good idea this year? I'm really noticing it now with this many pairs on the ice.
  4. I think the stream and main network are now together for what they're showing. I have to say, I'm really noticing the edges more on the required dance moves. Carol Lane just said the judges have been consistent and Kirk said they are toeing the line. Could be interesting to hear what they say when the top ten or so get their marks.
  5. The main CBC network is now showing the short dance. They are one dance team behind. I'm currently watching the Spanish couple.
  6. A weird thought just crossed my mind. Is it possible Tessa and Scott have returned to the original crotch in face lift (I've forgotten the cool name someone one here gave the lift - sorry) as a FU to the judges? If they've been hearing the same rumours about the judging and it's going to be a shit show, maybe they figure they can offend them then?
  7. I'm watching it there as well. Thank goodness for modern technology!
  8. Just checked my tv listings for tonight and a basketball game is listed in the Olympic slot. At the 11:00 pm mark it lists women's hockey but no figure skating. Here's hoping it's an error. I'll be checking at 8:00 pm to see if it's true. Tomorrow night the dance is in the listings for TSN.
  9. I know it won't happen, but I'd love to see either Andrew Poje and Kaitlyn Weaver or Paul Poirier and Piper Gilles on the podium. From the sounds of things, we're back to the shit that really hasn't gone away for judging. I don't think either of these pairs are given the respect and marks they should. I'm sure there are other couples out there as well who are more creative and deserving than some of the predestined podium pairs. It would make me very happy if the judging tonight with the short is as hard as it seemed to be for the team event. For the Canadians on here, I'm not sure if any of the TSN channels are going to show this in its entirety as they have with the other skating events so far. Not sure how much coverage CBC will give to this tonight either. I like to see the lower ranked teams because you never know who you might discover or be watching at the beginning of a successful career.
  10. Speaking for the "older" crew in here, remember how amazing Toller Cranston was? How he was robbed due to the skaters having to do figures in those days? I am thrilled that figures no longer factor into scoring as I think figure skating is the better for it. I do however believe along with so many of you that men's programs have turned into a jumping contest so I don't really watch it anymore. There has to be a balance that needs to be achieved between the artistic and the athletic. Someone was mentioning that Adam Rippon might be looking for an announcing position, but I'm fairly certain he sings doesn't he? I think I watched a gala performance where he comes out and sings before skating. My understanding was he was seriously looking into a singing career. Not to say he couldn't do both, but I think he has a backup plan in place when he stops competitive skating. On a funny little note, every time I hear Sympathy for the Devil on the radio, I now have a skating visual to go with it. I have this for a few songs that have been used over the years, but this one seems to be the strongest yet. I hope I'm not the only one this happens to.
  11. I remember Elena's story more than Jessica's. Anton went and rescued her, took care of her, and brought her back to the land of the living. It was a big story when it happened. She was fortunate to have a boyfriend like Anton. Sadly I think there are enough of these accidents, that depending on your age, how much figure skating you follow, and possibly who your favourites are, will determine which one is the most memorable to a person. I think almost every figure skating fan can name someone who was injured doing the side by side camels.
  12. She did. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1997/03/19/a-career-almost-cut-short-by-a-blade/ee3277d1-758a-4a1a-a231-6bf46a0bd0e9/?utm_term=.a4e97491f085
  13. TSN4 in Canada looks like it will show all of the pairs' short programs. Remember to add time to your PVR if you're taping it as so far all the figure skating has gone longer than what's on the program guide. At least that's what I've noticed so far. I think the main CBC network will have highlights. They will no doubt show all the Canadian pairs, but not showing it live. On an unrelated note but speaking of changes I'd like to see, I wish the side by side camel spins would be retired for pairs. I cringe every time one of them is now shown. Too many nasty accidents for this one move, that it's time to eliminate it. I know skaters can be injured at any time, but in this case it seems particularly gruesome to me when it happens.
  14. Given the point spread, it would have been nice to give another Canadian dance pair (Andrew and Kaitlyn perhaps) a chance to get metals as well. The more on the team, the nicest it is in my opinion. Share the wealth. I'm not sure how far in advance you have to do the substitutions so possibly it was better to go with a safe bet vs taking a chance?
  15. So any of the men back end their routines like this little Russian girl? This is really annoying!
  16. I'm almost falling asleep as her music is so boring. I wonder how many in the audience feel the same way? As much as I don't like so many repeats of other music, I would take a Carmen or Phantom over this.
  17. Thank you to you and healthnut for the answer. Must google this as I have no idea what that is. That was an amazing routine!
  18. Is that a tattoo or a big bruise on her leg? I generally don't watch the women either, so have no idea what this is or if it's been explained already.
  19. Count me in with the crew that wants to see a clean skate vs a jumping fest. I stopped watching men's competitions for that very reason. It's boring and not pleasant to watch, especially when no one manages to skate cleanly. edited because grammar counts.
  20. A little late but not too late, if you're watching in Canada, TSN5 is carrying this live. The main CBC network will show this later, and if it's like it was yesterday, they won't be showing all of the skaters. Right now Adam Ripon is on, and he's the third male skater, so there's still lots to see.
  21. I think the majority of his falls are on the quad jumps. I could be wrong about this, but I think that's a major downfall for him, his inability to master quads. Having said that, that's the primary reason I stopped watching the men. It's now a jumping competition instead of any type of art form/story telling/artistic visions. With rare exceptions, the men seem to have a few simplistic moves to link their jumps together and that's boring to watch for me. Well the Canadian nationals have been a heart break for two of my favourite teams. The three dance teams I was hoping to go to the Olympics are going but it was a hard battle for my favourites. I'm so sad for Dylan and Lubov right now. Dylan looked tired and I'm not sure what happened to his hand as it was never talked about. I am thrilled for Seguin and Bilodeau. I saw them several years ago and they looked like they were promising then with a great future ahead of them.
  22. I don't watch single skaters anymore, but even without watching can say that Patrick Chan has been getting marks he doesn't deserve for years. I do see highlights and the occasional performance reels, so feel comfortable saying that. I still haven't figured out (translation, can't be bothered to learn) how the new scoring system works, so had no idea how close to "perfection" Tessa and Scott scored in their SD. That explains the calls of a perfect score equivalent to 6.0s for their long program. Wonder how they'll hold up for the Olympics? I'm thrilled Piper and Paul, and Kaitlyn and Andrew are going to be going to the Olympics. I think both pairs are underrated and under appreciated because they're in the shadow of Tessa and Scott. I do appreciate the skill, time, and effort Tessa and Scott have put into their skating, but after Scott's press conferences and blame game from a few years ago, my appreciation of them hasn't been the same as it once was. I was also in the camp of not thrilled they came back for that reason.
  23. Heartbroken for Andrew and Kaitlyn after yesterday's short dance results. Having said that, what a class act the two of them are. The interview they did after didn't put blame on anyone, made the best of what happened, and gave credit to the talent we currently have.
  24. It was, but I have to say there's lots of cool lifts in their programs. This is the first time I've watched any of the American nationals and have to say it's nice seeing some of the pairs who don't make it on the top tiers to be shown on tv. Every so often TSN up here in Canada will show all the qualifiers and it's a good opportunity to see the difference between the skill levels of the skaters. Depending on how long someone follows skating, it also means you get a chance to see some skaters at the beginning of their journeys.
