  1. I recently discovered a show on Court TV called "Someone They Knew", with Tamron Hall; there are two seasons, and I watch on the app.  She narrates, but doesn't actually interview like how Paula Zahn does. It has a mix of the familiar cases we've seen a million times, and some new ones. They had the Celeste Holmes Beard case (or as I think of it, the Tracy Tarleton case). And even though I've seen it a million times, it never gets old to see that blowhard defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin lose a case!

  2. Here's the really offbeat thing that I liked about the episode. When they showed Angie swimming, it was actually realistic. Usually it's either a stunt double who's a great swimmer but clearly isn't the actor/actress. Or it really is the actor/actress, and they try to make it look like they're a really good swimmer (by trying to have them go fast, or do something that looks complicated), but they're not really that good. In this case, Angie was just doing leisurely backstroke, in a realistic way, as just a normal person swimming in a pool would. Bravo!

HIs family looked way more tired with Kelsey's visit.  Did they really film these on the same days? This sames to be something new. I thought they went on a date, than went to meet the folks.

They sure made it look like they were on the same day, but I can't actually believe they would do that.

The "shot o'clock" seems producer driven, and I guarantee you will be the theme for her season. In fact, I predict her tagline will be something like "This time around, she's calling all the shots."

Honestly, the Ormewood family stuffy should have been interesting but it wasn't.  It felt very much poured on.  He said to his wife 'You're the love of my life" and I feel like the show wants us and her to believe that.  Fine, but a serial cheater simply saying he loves his wife isn't a flex and doesn;t even deserve the metaphorical cookie.  As @possibilities has said, Ormewood have not earned any sympathy from the audience at this point.  It is the 2nd episode of the season, coming off a season where he has been shown to be a lazy, somewhat corrupt cop and an adulterer. He hasn't put in the work.  So his domestic woes aren't working.

    Preach!

Do people really have trouble understanding Amanda? I saw folks saying that in the forums, so I was trying to pay attention to it tonight, and she didn't seem to me to be speaking quickly.

I figured out that for me, the difficulty comes at the end of her sentences. Because of her low, whispery-type of voice, and people naturally dropping a bit at the end of sentences, it combines to make some of her words hard to understand.

I enjoyed Will's back and forth with the pastor - I wish he didn't have a felony murder hanging over his head. I would have enjoyed seeing them continue to spar while Will was also getting a form of therapy from their interactions.

It would be great if they would actually continue the interactions while the pastor is in prison. I could see Will dictating long diatribes to him, and either them letting the pastor exchange tape recordings with Will, or Will using some Google/AI-assisted product to transcribe his recordings to text.

Because Sonia is absolutely playing Amanda as still loving Will and considers herself his surrogate mom. I hope Will realizes and accepts that they are family, and he has someone outside of Angie who loves him.

Because I pay attention to stupid details, this woman in labor is still fully dressed. She says that Will has to look "down there" and apparently she's taken off her panties, but left all of her other clothes on? Seemed unlikely.

I couldn't make sense of why Will was wanting her to stop moaning so loudly. The wife knew she was downstairs, so moaning isn't giving away any location information. If anything, it was helpful, because it masked any sounds that Faith would have made walking around.

Ormewood really hasn't learned his lesson at all has he? He had to have Angie of all people spell out to him that everything isn't all fine and dandy at home just because he's done the bare minimum as a husband and father.

It was stunning that he recited all those accomplishments that he was so proud of, and then didn't connect that what he needs to do to really make a difference in his marriage, goes beyond just doing deeds like that.

  6. Finally, someone with what sounded like a legit southern accent!  It was the switchboard operator, or whatever you call that woman who was handling the calls from the various GBI personnel. I don't know if it was her real accent or not, or even if it was specifically "Georgia" or not, but it was definitely southern, and at this point, I'll take it!

Yes! And I couldn't figure out what the point of having her do that was, because she's a professional, and regardless of how smitten she was with Will, I just don't think she would have done that. It makes her look less competent at her job. Or was it so that Will would see it, and feel even worse than he already does?!

On 2/23/2024 at 5:50 PM, Calvada said:

And yes, the accent being adopted by Ramon Rodriguez sounds more New Orleans to me too.

Yep, and it has to stop. It adds absolutely nothing to the show, and detracts from it. And I can't figure out why they're doing it. I don't think they've said he's a native Georgian, and none of the other characters have some type of Georgia accent, so why on earth does Will need one?

As for Ormwood, whatever he was in the past, that scene with his wife was really moving on both parts - well acted.

I actually had a lot of problems with that scene. From what we've seen about Ormewood, who went to the lengths to put a tracking device on his wife's car, and who had heard talk about how much time his wife spends over at that guy's house, he would never have been that quickly dissuaded of his suspicions about her cheating, just because he solved the mystery of the hour of air conditioning.  Yes he was relieved that one aspect of his concerns proved mistaken, but he is a detective and knew that his spidey sense about the other aspects was still outstanding, so I don't think he would have had that relieved and sheepish aspect to his explanation. And I don't for a second believe he would have told her about his thought process right there in the middle of the police station, nor do I believe that she would have immediately caved, and confessed right there on the spot.

The note had to be a producer's idea to scrap up some cheap drama right? Kelsey had to know that nothing good has every followed hearing the phrase "we need to talk" right?

I definitely think it was a producer's idea. Kelsey looked like she was really struggling to even come up with words to say (and not because she was struggling with the emotions, but simply because she just didn't have enough words to fill up the time). But I think it was more than just for the cheap drama...I also think it was intentionally to f*ck with Joey, and that is not OK.

The outtakes were funny, love the Joey impression and Joey spending the shopping date drinking and eating macaroons.

I continue to wish, however futilely, that TPTB would understand that those type of scenes are so much more meaningful to us as fans, than the never-ending stupid contrived drama. We actually get to see people's personalities, which in turn makes us more invested in the outcome.

When they were all sitting in the living room, and Nev said something like, "You two seem to be getting along very well", it had to have been clear to him that there was actually nothing between them. And then when they were leaving, the girl actually said, "We have chemistry"...only if by "chemistry" you mean "extreme awkwardness" and "seem like distant relatives"!

Joey was over Maria. Did anyone notice his expression after she told him she was in love with him? I knew then she was done.

When I saw his DGAF expression as she declared her love, I thought "Wait. He must be masking his reaction, cause there's no way they'd telegraph the ending." But sure enough, that's exactly what they did. I guess it's nice to see that Joey is no actor when it comes to feigning happiness.

Yes, the new season has started. I posted this over in the True Crime forum, but will post again here as well.

Regarding the first episode of the season...I don't think they had near enough evidence to bring the case to court. I think the guy is guilty as sin, and there was a smattering of circumstantial evidence (like the credit cards), but everything else was basically motive and character.  When they gave the de-brief to the niece (?) at the end, they were using a lot of gobbledy-gook say-nothing words, because I think they were told they need to do a lot more in order to even be able to get an arrest.

Quoting myself because I watched the second episode of this season's Cold Justice, and again I don't think there's enough evidence. They arrested the guy, which is farther than the last episode got, but I seriously doubt it will go to trial. There's just not enough evidence of actual murder, circumstantial or otherwise. Again, he's almost assuredly guilty, and there's plenty to show anger issues and problems in the relationship, and opportunity, but not one thing related to the actual act of murder.

Amy and Chelsea basically chose the same dress though poor Chelsea yet again went with something that does not suit her body type.

That spaghetti strap cowl neck shirt she had on in the wedding dress scene was not flattering at all. That’s not a good look for women with chests over a certain size (and I count myself among them).

Additionally, the spaghetti strap seersucker top she was wearing with Jimmy just made her boobs look saggy and made her look big.

On 2/29/2024 at 12:57 AM, HerkyJerky said:

Or on the flipside maybe it was her first husband that made her so insecure and suspicious?

When Chelsea told Jimmy that as soon as he saw Jessica's picture, he started behaving differently, she was completely dismissing that once she knew Jimmy saw Jessica's picture, then she started behaving differently.

Also, let's not discount Jimmy's insecurity. Early on, maybe when the couples were all on vacation, he said to the other guys that his relationship was the strongest of all of them, when clearly already it had shown signs of problems. Then at the party, when Chelsea said something about "there's the strongest couple", referring to Amy and Johnny, Jimmy basically imploded. He drilled her mercilessly about how could she say that, and forced her to retreat into an "I was kidding thing", but even that wasn't enough, and she ended up saying something like, "I would never just say something like that seriously", even though she absolutely had said it seriously.

I think Jimmy prides himself on his nice-guy persona, but I think he is a manipulative sh*t. When he was having the fight with Chelsea about going out for the buddy's party, at one point he tried to be all reassuring and said to her something about how if she's uncomfortable with his going out like that, then she just needs to ask him to pull back. So she did ask, and he said he wouldn't. F*ck you, Jimmy.

I hate that style of top Laura is wearing.  Irina wore one like that last season and it just isn't flattering on any body type, imo.

What's maddening about that style of top, is that if you're going to wear it, you need to commit to it and be totally comfortable with wearing it. Laura was constantly tugging at it, and being very self-conscious about it. And given that when you wear something like that, you are directly calling attention to your boobs, it was surprisingly unflattering when viewed from the side and seeing her basically saggy boobs.

I was genuinely appalled when she first told him that she would not be kissing him because he kissed someone else, and she told him he needed to "learn your lesson".  Yes, I am aware that she then planted a big one on his lips, but it is said that in jest resides some truth. I think that a part of her absolutely believes he did something wrong. When I told my husband about this, he imitated what he would have done, which was to immediately get a cold look in his eyes and say very calmly and coolly, "Oh I learned my lesson", and walk out.

For anyone who knows French...when Maria was speaking about Joey, and saying something that she would say to him in French, she used "vous" rather than "tu", which makes absolutely no sense since "vous" is the formal word for 'you' and "tu" is the familiar word. For someone you are dating, you would absolutely use "tu"!

It's hard for me to believe that appearance would not be relevant, so I would love to hear that thought process.

  23. I watched Crimetime: Freefall.  Meh.  The two leads have a playful banter and  buddy-buddy chemistry, but I don't sense any romantic chemistry. (I also couldn't get past Hadley's unflattering curly bangs.) I knew it would be the security guy, because they didn't delve into him at all.

One thing that was laughably bad was when the victim's mother sat down with Hadley and in total sincerity, begged her to get involved because of her crime-solving success on the TV show. It also didn't ring true that Hadley couldn't stop yelling out the trivia answers. This is a woman who is an actress, and as such is very used to taking direction, and she is not that long removed from those days. I also don't think they could decide if they wanted her to be down-to-earth or a my-assistant-will-handle-that diva.

Hadley's mom looked so much like a Black version of Lily Tomlin. And I was confused as to what the mom was apologizing for at the end, that had something to do with that fan guy.

I was also confused because I'm pretty sure Hadley said at one point that the move was temporary. I definitely noticed when the kids were complaining about having moved, she said that if something good came up back in LA (or words to that effect), she promised they would move back. As soon as she said that, I knew that something good would be offered but she would choose to stay. However...making a blanket promise like that is a terrible idea, and breaking that promise just makes her promises look cheap in the first place.

It's now the next day after I watched, and I can't remember why the security guy killed the victim, so that's not too good. Can anybody fill me in?

One thing I absolutely loved, was when she went to the house where the victim's business partner and the ex were, and she asked them some busybody nosy crime-solving question, and they explained something about how nothing good came of when they spoke to her before, so they closed the door on her. That was hysterical, because in other Hallmark Mysteries, the heroine crime-solver asks all these questions of people who have no need or reason to answer her questions, but they do, and barely ever ask her why she's asking!
