Shaun Evans is listed in the cast (sporting a full beard too) of a show on Peacock called “Vigil”.  I don’t subscribe to Peacock anymore, but my Roku says it’s available on the Peacock app as a free show. I watched the trailer and it looks interesting.  Evans didn’t say enough in the trailer for me to know whether or not he is using his “real” accent.   My husband and I are in the middle of several other series right now, so I don’t want to begin another yet. I may give Vigil I try soon though.  Sorry to see Endeavour go!  I always enjoyed it despite never being able to get into the original Morse.

I watched Vigil last year, and can recommend it... It strains credulity in terms of plot, but it's well acted and gripping enough. And yes, I think he uses his real accent in that one (or at least a lot closer to it than Endeavour). Plus he gets a shower scene!

do they seriously expect to keep a child a secret indefinitely?

Considering he's appeared in Caldwell family pictures before, and they didn't seem to have an issue with Jinger filming them...no? Honestly I think Joken don't seem to care one way or the other. Good for them keeping their family life fairly private.

My name nerd side would like to know the kid's name, but my oh-dear-god-the-Duggars-are-famewhores-who-mess-up-their-children side is like, good for them. Not that they won't be messed up in a thousand other ways by their fundy upbringing, of course, but at least they get a modicum of privacy.

I am confused. So does the picture above prove they had baby #4? The baby Kendra is holding?  I have no idea who all the kids are in the photo.

Kendra and Joe with Kendra's family... presumably Kendra would be holding her own baby. (I believe the two smallest girl's in front, plus the boy in the white shirt/ black pants are their other three kids; the rest are Kendra's siblings).

Joe and Kendra's family are also featured in Jinger's latest vlog; they go to Chick-fil-a together and the baby is there, too (wearing navy blue, which in Duggarland means it must be a boy). So yes, seems pretty conclusive proof of #4,

Btw, was Jakes' return only so he could fill in as best man? What else did he bring to the plot? Everything about his presence in the episode(s) escapes me.

I think they just wanted an excuse to have Jack Laskey back, and to add a bit more poignancy to the Blenheim Vale story, as someone who actually cared about Peter Williams, but it was rather poorly executed. I'm also confused as to what he was doing back in England in the first place (surely if he was there to visit relatives/ with his wife, he wouldn't be staying with Morse... and if he was there specifically because of the BV stuff... why? how did he find out?), and I thought it was odd that during the scene where he extolls the virtues of America to Morse, he didn't mention anything about how he's doing there, or his wife or child.

I thought Lott had a knife and stabbed Morse in the back.

He did, though I had to rewatch the scene again to make sure after Morse seemed so un-bloody at the wedding.

That fake kiss scene was so goofy. I knew it wasn't real from the onset, but it just seemed so "off" compared to the tone of the series. I also figured it would be a hallucination while Morse was still be bleeding in the field, so the fact that he actually was at the wedding (fairly unrumpled and without a drop of blood in sight) really threw me, and seemed extra bizarre.

The scene of Thursday yelling at Morse after killing Tomahawk, and their meeting in the pub at the end were both really well done, and I liked Morse's decision not to tell Thursday who Tomahawk was, but I think I wanted Morse to stay angry with Thursday. Is that awful, that the ending was a little too "happy" for me? I would have preferred Morse walking away from Thursday at the pub and that's the end. But maybe I'm just weird.

I'm glad Joan and Jim's wedding went off without a hitch, and I'm also glad Morse didn't have to be the best man. Sadly, I think he probably preferred being stabbed than having to be at the wedding.

Also loved Morse getting his own sandwich in the end. (Aw.)

Overall I think Endeavour was a great series, and I'll miss it. I hope Shaun Evans finds himself back on TV soon (and preferably with his natural accent this time... surely I'm not the only one who finds it incredibly sexy?)

    1) An entire new series with Jack Laskey. I always wondered why the series let him go. He's handsome as sin; his character wasn't "tainted" by his tragic backstory; but he gave Shaun Evans a run for his money in the leading man department (by virtue of his handsomeness). A series built around him wouldn't infringe on the Morse stuff.

Ha, I thought I was the only JL fan here... I actually started watching Endeavour because of him, though he certainly wasn't my reason for staying (I found Jakes to be a nonentity at best-- other than his standout performance in the Blenheim Vale episode-- and an annoying bully at his worst, mainly series 1). He was absolutely wonderful in X Company, which is where I saw him first (and which I think was the reason he left Endeavour), and I'm sad he hasn't done much since then. I'm excited to see him back for the last couple episodes, though I think the odds of Jakes dying are higher than him getting his own spin-off.

Whoever shot up his office knew he was there and so obviously doesn't dislike him (or he would have been killed).

I kind of thought Box might have killed the intruder (and that was another reason for him to skip town), though I'm probably very wrong on that...

I am thoroughly prepared for Thursday's death in the finale, but I'm hoping that the how and why are well-executed, and that the series ends in a satisfying (if sad) way.

  6. I enjoyed the final series overall, and I think the final showdown was just about perfect (other than Catherine going into the house on her own... I realize we needed that private scene between the two of them, but JFC that was stupid!) for all the reasons everyone mentioned above (also loved Tommy calling Ryan "your Ryan" to Catherine... very tiny, but also huge), but overall I thought the finale needed a little more of...something. I realize there's only so much time, and that Catherine is the focus of the show, and if everything had gotten tied up in a neat little bow it would have gone in the other direction and would have been too much, but I feel like addressing even one or two of the following would have helped.

    • The Faisal/ Hepworth storyline just kind of fizzled out. I know they're the B plot, but the B plots in previous series were better served. This one already felt like a rehash of the previous B plots (put-upon beta male makes a terrible choice in desperation), and the non-ending felt unsatisfying.
    • Richard was Catherine's main confidant throughout this series (thanks to the falling out with Clare), and then doesn't even appear in the finale. Nor did Ann... even just a brief scene of her being involved in an arrest or something would have been nice, to show how she's coping. And don't even get me started on poor Daniel, the most neglected character of the whole series. (I'm still pissed about his character assassination in series 2...why did he have to cheat on his pregnant wife? And then the baby--Catherine's other grandchild--is never mentioned again! If they wanted Daniel single it would have been just as easy to have had the wife miscarry and they drift apart afterwards, or have the wife be the one who cheated and the baby wasn't Daniel's, but no...)
    • The awkward scene with the bigwig boss while Catherine packs up her office was fine, but I call bs that she was able to quietly sneak away in the midst of her own party and no one noticed/ said anything. Despite all the teasing, it's clear that her colleagues really do adore her, so that just felt weird. Some kind of little closure with alien guy, or a quick goodbye with Joyce, Mike, or Shaf would have been nice. And what became of the money Joyce wasn't sure what to do with?
    • If I remember correctly, both of the first two series also ended in the cemetery, so that was nice, but Ryan was in those other scenes, and I didn't really like his absence here. Catherine is clearly ready to drive off into the sunset in the Land Rover, and good for her, she deserves some alone time, but... her sixteen-year-old grandson has had a pretty traumatic time of things, too, and it just felt weird that we see nothing of him in the end, and Clare is presumably going to be the one telling him his dad died, etc. If they really wanted to come full circle, Ryan should have been there in the end (and maybe Catherine finally agrees he can get that dog...).

All in all I think it didn't quite end as well as it could have, which is a shame for an overall excellent show. Keeping my fingers crossed that Endeavour does a better job with its finale on Sunday!

I believe it was to demonstrate just how controlling, manipulative (and untrusting of others) she was.

Yeah, I got that, but it just seems unlikely that she could keep such a severe allergy a secret. How frequently was she dashing from a room and injecting herself with adrenaline just so she could keep her sense of control, and how realistic would that scenario even be? (Seemed like her attack was pretty sudden during the concert, and if she's not mentioning it to anyone surely the chances of her accidentally ingesting something with trace amounts of nuts, or kissing someone who had recently eaten nuts, was a distinct possibility over the years and would cause a similarly terrible reaction?)

At the very least, if I was her, I think I would take a pass on those biscuits!

  8. Well, that was a terribly awkward episode all round. Really uncomfortable to watch, and rightfully so. Kudos to everyone for conveying it.

Strange was (strangely!) one of my favorite characters last year, but now he's dropped a bit... Morse is meant to be clueless when it comes to social cues, but I never thought Strange was. Not cool springing this news on him and than asking him to be best man.

As for the mystery, I thought it was easy enough to follow (not always a given on Endeavour) while also not being completely predictable... That said, I found it hard to believe that Margeaux could (or would want to) keep such a severe allergy a secret from these people that she associated so closely with/ regularly ate with. Like, if mere contact with nuts could kill you, wouldn't you maybe want people to be aware of that? Also, if she was having Mrs. T take her favorite biscuits out of the tin for her, presumably so that she didn't have to touch any nutty biscuits herself, wouldn't the biscuits she wanted possibly have come in contact with the nutty biscuits and been just as dangerous?

  9. Your annual reminder to go vote for various Murdoch Mysteries-related nominees in the Primetimers: https://forums.primetimer.com/forum/3310-the-primetimers-awards/

I am curious to know whether whoever nominated Higgins for the "That Guy Used to Suck: Favorite Character Redemption Arc" category this year is the same person who nominated him for the "Character Who Could Disappear and No One Would Notice" category last year. :)

I came outside to see how the air is and started to choke. The air is bad and has an orange hue to it. Wow. I never seen anything like this in my whole longggg life.

Yep, we had that, too. Nothing like trying to review for final exams with a roomful of freshmen who are convinced the world's ending (and want to take pictures). Fun times.

The orange-ness did go away by the time school let out, but the air quality is still putrid.

  11. Reddit thinks mystery boy is Josiah and Lauren's, and was born earlier this month. If Daisy was born around March of last year, it's not the worst gap in Fundyville, but still pretty quick.

Elijah? Ebenezer? Elliot? Eziekiel? Edward? (I'm laughing if it's Edward since they already have Bella... maybe Lauren is a secret Twilight fan...)

I guess whoever it is is also the mystery baby in JB's 30 grandchildren comment when Joy announced her pregnancy.

I thought Lauren had a girl last year (Daisy, who is listed in the girl count). Has she had another since then? (I mean, obviously none of us know, but that seems quick.)

I feel thick but can someone explain to me how Logan and Ewan had a baby sister in America when their parents were in England and they’d been sent away for safety?

Ewan kind of rambled, but I thought he said something about "we were all there by then" before the part about the sister, so presumably the parents came to America, too, after the war? Ewan said he and Logan were 4 and 5 when they were sent over during the war, and I would think Logan would most likely be in the 8-10 range, if not older, when he went to boarding school.

  14. I didn't really care about David's death (I know, I'm horrible), but I've got the same complaint about the way the TV series is cherry-picking moments from throughout the book series without regard for context. In addition to the aforementioned death of David (which, as Ohiopirate02 mentioned, occurs much later, in the Nikolai duology), they've used multiple moments from the Six of Crows duology that ring a bit false (or at least have less of an impact than they should) because they're being shoehorned into a different spot in the narrative. If we ever do get the actual Six of Crows book plots in the TV series, the story is going to be far less awesome because they've already used so much of it. And if the arc of the TV series has all been planned out ahead of time and is never going to include Six of Crows as we know it, I still think they could have done a much better job of melding the stories together and choosing what to use when, and how to set up their emotional beats for maximum impact.

I feel like Jinger would be too meek to enjoy roller coasters. Sad.

Wonder who took the pic if not Jing?

Either Jinger took the picture, or she was with their younger daughter, who wouldn't be tall enough for the ride.

Regardless, the idea that not riding a roller coaster (even if it was due to not-wanting-to, rather than parental responsibility) is "sad" and "meek" has to be one of the stranger takes I have encountered... I hate roller coasters.

a couple has 12 kids with the letter C!

I follow her on Instagram, and the family is talked about occasionally on FreeJinger... At the very least she does a better job of preparing her kids for life than the Duggars (they are always reading a ton of books, she cooks and bakes with them, the older boys are in organized sports, they raise animals, garden, etc.). The headline is misleading, though-- she had all 12 kids in under 12 years. Only one set of twins, and a lot of Irish twins.

Its so odd there are so many female J names, including Julie, they didn't use. Jill, Jessa, Jinger and Jordyn have distinct names but Jana, Joy Anna, Johannah, Jennifer and Josie all seem to be variations of each other or other Duggar kid names.

Jessica was a popular name during that time. Justine, Jacqueline, Judy, Jody, Jane, Jean, Joan, Joyce, etc. And what about Jamie? How did they not end up with Jamie for a girl? Or Jeanette after Michelle's middle name Annette?

I mean, Jessica would be very similar to Jessa, Justine is one letter off from Justin, and Jamie is a derivative of James (and I wonder if it didn't make the Duggar cut because it's too unisex?). While (as you noted), the Duggars have some egregiously similar names already, I'm glad they didn't opt for even more. The same goes for boys' names, too, though-- they have Joseph/ Josiah and Jeremiah/ Jedidiah, while avoiding some very normal J names that would have been more unique to their family (Jacob, Jude/ Judah (I know that was almost Jackson's name), Jared, Jasper, Jeffrey, etc.).

I also think it's noteworthy that none of the Duggar kids so far have had a J-named offspring. I think they're all J'ed out. Interesting to see if anyone ever does. (I know Joy has mentioned naming the new baby after Austin's grandfather in some way, and his name was James, but she could stick it in the middle, or use his middle name, or whatever.)

While waiting for the new episodes of some of my current "regulars" to show up, I went back and started watching "Murder City" (2004; two seasons) starring Kris Marshall ("Death in Paradise") and Amanda Donohoe ("LA Law.") It also features a young Laura Main ("Call the Midwife" as a regular.

Anyway, I enjoyed the first episode, but apparently it's only available via Filmrise on ad-supported platforms like the Roku Channel, Crackle, Plex, etc. And there are SO many commercials! Usually in blocks of SEVEN. Does anyone know if there's another way to watch this with fewer (or NO) commercials? I was hoping it might show up on Hoopla or Kanopy, but no such luck.

    https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv-show/murder-city

Doesn't look like any commercial-free options, but maybe try Freevee instead of Roku? Their ads tend to be quicker.
