I'm not a parent, but I am not sure I would want to make it public that my kids would love to move to another state and live with one of my other kid's in-law family.

When she says "the Keilens" I assumed she was talking about Brandon and Michael, not Brandon's parents. Though your point still stands. If B & M asked for the boys to come live with them permanently, I think Kelly would be like, "Sure, great."

No way she gets most of the humor in Seinfeld.

I was a (very innocent) tween during the heyday of Seinfeld, and I still enjoyed it/ found it funny even though I'm sure a lot of stuff went over my head.

Jinger is 29 years old and has access to the internet and a "worldly" husband. If she's confused, she can figure things out. It must be a rather interesting cultural education for her. I wish all the Duggar kids would educate themselves in so many ways, but I guess Seinfeld and The Office are baby steps...

I decided to look up when a show is coming back for season 2. It got canceled by HBO. I’m so upset. It was such a great show! Sigh.

And it’s gone from HBO app. I can’t even rewatch it.

    What show?

  4. I would think that's what they'll do, and I was kind of surprised they didn't set the scene for it in the finale. I would think Tom Brittany knew he was leaving by then (and I'm half convinced he's known for even longer... that's the only reason I can think of for the always-in-demand Charlotte Ritchie to commit to the role, if she knew it was for a finite time), but maybe they really didn't know if they were getting another season and figured it would be nicer to end the way they did rather than setting up a departure that wouldn't be necessary if the show didn't continue. (Though honestly that baffles me, too... it's lasted eight-soon-to-be-nine seasons, surely it's not going to be cancelled unceremoniously at this point?)

I also like that James's middle name is George. That's exactly right.

A bit of a callback to the first season when Geordie gave his son the middle name Sidney.

Where were Geordie's other three kids in the hospital waiting room scene?? Why did Esme need to be there, but not the rest? And if you could bring puppies into a hospital waiting room (which you can't, that was bizarre), surely you could bring three more kids.

Also, what was with Mrs. C going all Sound of Music with the Keating kids at the end? She had them in matching outfits (which the oldest two are definitely too old for and would surely protest), and marching!

I was hopeful that Geordie would actually retire and go into the private detective business next season (and bring Miss Scott with him) right up until the boss hit Leonard, and then I predicted the ending we got. Sigh.

On the one hand, I guess Grantchester should be applauded for basically ending every season on a positive note-- any of its eight finales would have worked perfectly fine as a series finale-- but it's getting ridiculous, particularly in the last two seasons, how much they have to pull sunshine and roses out of their ass in the last episode to make everything come together. Like, maybe a little less angst in the episodes leading up to the finale would be a better idea, no? But they've been doing it so long I don't know why I should expect it to change...

Every time I see Dickens I'm always trying to figure out how many zillions of years old in dog years he is at this point. I keep thinking he's got to kick the bucket at some point.

As much as I love Dickens, I'm kind of hoping Will and his family take him along wherever they end up going, and we're spared a doggy death scene. New vicar can have one of the pups. But knowing this show, Dickens's decline and eventual passing will serve as part of next season's angst.

Pet peeve:  Instagram is limiting the number of hashtag posts you can see to 9 top posts when you are viewing on a computer.  But there is no such limit on a mobile device.  What's up with that?  Is there anyway around it?  I have searched in vain for an override.  I'm trying to view the projects of people who have made a particular dress pattern I'm planning to sew.

This is a peeve of mine, too... All I know is that it happens periodically, but always seems to revert back eventually (like, weeks later... which is quite annoying when you're trying to search for things). I didn't realize it was a computer-only thing (as I only use it on the computer)-- how unfair!

Was that definitely on Hulu? I can't find it listed. Some old CSI episode comes up.

According to justwatch.com it is on Hoopla and AcornTV.

I own the dvd... I loved Aidan Turner on Being Human, never got into Poldark, but I never really got the sex appeal until I saw him in And Then There Were None... yum.

What the hell, Jessa? Don’t bother teaching your kids self control or respect for others…

I mean, she was never taught it as a kid, was she? The whole video shows she is raising another pack of feral Duggar children, just like her. The part at the end, where Fern is hanging on the top of the plastic car while Ivy "drives"... I don't have kids, so correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't most parents put a stop to that rather than actively encouraging it? I know we've seen worse (was it one of Jill's boys who stood on top of the same type of plastic car when he was younger?), but it just drives home the point of how little guidance any of the Duggar kids have in terms of normal parenting. And Jessa in particular seems to double down on how her way is just fine and dandy and no one's going to tell her otherwise.

didn't realize the season was ending next week.  This seems like an unusually short season!

The season has the same number of episodes as every previous one (6), it just seems shorter because the last two are airing together this time.

Season six had 8 episodes for some reason... that was the never-ending Leonard-in-prison Geordie-dealing-with-his-war-years season. I'm glad this season is only 6... I've had about as much Will angst as I can take.

  10. That video was...interesting. Those poor kids and their feral upbringing. I didn't think Henry was being grabby, just trying to help Fern out like a good young brother-dad.

I know smash-cakes are a thing at first birthdays, but letting Fern attack her cake at two was an odd choice. It was a tiny cake, but judging by what Jessa and Ben were saying in the background, it was the only cake, and the other kids would get some after Fern was done with it?

A nine year-old boy in teddy bear PJ's.

He's eight (not that this necessarily negates your point... I'm not sure what the cutoff for teddy bear pj's is... but just in case anyone else is going, as I did, "Holy shit, Israel is nine already?!"... no, not until next April).

Well, I was noticing that Miss Scott constantly hides her right hand. No joke, in a pocket, in her left hand, behind a prop. So I guess I wasn’t spellbound by the story.

Um, isn't the right hand the one she doesn't have? So she's not hiding it, it just doesn't exist. I did notice she has a tendency of holding her left hand to her right elbow a lot.

Meanwhile, I was distracted by the "big" brother/ murderer... the actor looked familiar, but I couldn't think of from where. Finally had to consult IMDB, and it turned out he was one of the thugs from the most recent season of Happy Valley... he had a very different accent on that.

Didn't Mrs. C have a line something like "[the neighber said] the puppies will be our responsibility?" Either the neighbor was blustering/making an empty threat, or there are puppies already on the way. Either way, I would be on board with a new puppy.

I thought the Dickens part was just a ruse by the adults so that Ernie wouldn't know they were talking about/ worried about Will. Although Ernie was the one who brought it up ("Spreading his wild oats?"), so I guess it's in the realm of possibility...

Although (speculation based on the news about next season),

    Spoiler

when Will leaves, it would be nice if he brought Dickens with him... Unless he goes overseas like Sidney, there'd be no reason not to. The new vicar could start over with a new puppy.

How typical of the BBC/PBS folk to cast  a very plain actress opposite a handsome actor to teach us that looks don't matter

Wow, if Charlotte Ritchie is considered "plain," then I'm probably an ogre or troll. I think she's adorable (though I prefer her as a brunette), and I don't have any trouble picturing Will choosing Bonnie, either in terms of looks or personality. Do I think it's a disastrous marriage? Yes! But they're both immature and petulant in different ways, so I guess they deserve each other? The only one I feel bad for in the relationship is Ernie (and the future baby).

And not that it matters, but Grantchester is on ITV in the UK, not BBC.

I wonder if this is one of those where the whole season is on Passport. Maybe I could get it all out of the way at once, fast forward through the Will scenes, and move on. Is this the last season for sure?

I don't have Passport, but on the PBS website it does appear that all the episodes are available for Passport folk.

No announcement was made saying it was the final season, which makes me think it's probably not? You'd think once a show survives as long as Grantchester has, it wouldn't be cancelled unceremoniously, and also that a final season would be "hyped" ahead of time, like Endeavour (also an ITV show) was, but who knows. Also, strangely, this season hasn't aired yet in the UK; usually it airs there several months before it's shown on PBS.

Anyone concerned how Will seemingly ditched the kid to go for a bike ride (trying to catch up to Bonnie? Or at least I assume? Idk)

I don't think he was trying to catch Bonnie, he was just being a petulant man-child. He told Geordie earlier in the episode that the motorcycle was his way of clearing his head or whatnot, and he decided to be an idiot and speed because he could. And yes, I also questioned him leaving Ernie alone (although Ernie appeared to be dressed up, so perhaps he'd gone to school? But they could have made that clearer...)
