I think at this point it's safe to say that Greg's golden head will end up with John Robins or Steve Pemberton.

I don't know if I'd count Joanne out just yet.

Of the three contenders I greatly prefer John, but honestly I love Nick and Sophie the most, even though they have no chance of winning.

While the manner in which you addressed the issue wasn't inconsiderate, please remember that pregnancy related issues can be very hard if not traumatic on women and speculation on infertility can be triggering regardless of how respectful the discussion is.

Question-- are we meant to avoid any respectful discussion of potentially triggering topics? Or just pregnancy-related issues? Or just topics that a moderator posts a directive about? Or are we welcome to continue respectfully discussing potentially triggering topics, but only if we include trigger warnings on our post? (If so, is there a site-wide list of what is considered potentially triggering?)

In case it doesn't come across, I am not trying to be combative, just genuinely curious/ don't want to run afoul in future.

  3. I've never watched Ted Lasso, and thought I would dislike Nick based on the series 17 promos because the vampire costume seemed so over-the-top, but he has quickly become my favorite contestant. What a sweet man! His little, "I don't think I've understood the task," while trapped underneath the camp bed had me in hysterics, while also being kind of heartbreaking.

This season has been a bit of a slow burn after last season's lovely insanity, but I'm still really enjoying it.

  4. I would be shocked if a show that has been around as long as Murdoch Mysteries goes out with so little fanfare. Can anyone think of a series in the last few decades that lasted into double digits seasons that got cancelled suddenly/ didn't announce in advance that they were entering their final season? I can't.

  5. I wouldn't bet against a third series. I think it's more popular in the UK than here? Anyhow, it got nominated for some BAFTAs (the British equivalent of Emmys)... not that critical acclaim equates to popularity, but it gives me some hope for a renewal...

  6. Jessa just posted Henry's birthday week video (he turned 7 in early February). The usual array of unwrapped Amazon and Walmart boxes/ envelopes being thrown at him. His siblings weren't too grabby this time, which was nice. He got a remote control car, two Lego sets, a joke book, some sort of zip string wand, a piggy bank, and the usual junk food (including a candy necklace that he apparently really wanted). He went to an arcade with his siblings, and had the Duggar traditional "chocolate mess," which he had to share with Spurgeon.

Henry still has a bit of a speech impediment, and Ivy spoke more clearly/ fluently than him, but he's definitely better than he was, and read well from the joke book.

One of the Lego sets was a Star Wars one (the other was Minecraft), and from the way Ben was talking, the boys have seen Star Wars, which was surprising to me...

Despite the fact that the video spanned the whole week and took place in multiple settings, I didn't see, hear, or hear the baby mentioned once.

  7. None of the other younger girls really read with confidence, either. And they all (including Joy) seemed to have a bit of trouble with understanding a couple of the (fairly straightforward) questions.

I am always strangely fascinated by Duggar sibling dynamics, so I watched the whole video. Jenni and Jordyn seemed sad/ unenthusiastic (a constant state for Jenni since her toddler years), although Jenni does seem to genuinely enjoy animals and had some life in her when discussing her goal to get some mini cows. Was she the one who said she wanted to be a vet back when she was a little kid? Too bad her lack of education and opportunities will prevent that.

I know everyone thinks Johanna looks like a mini Joy, but I was seeing a lot of Jessa in her facial expressions when she was talking. She was the most enthusiastic in the video. I think she will be another daughter who marries young because she just wants out of the big house. Hopefully she ends up with a halfway decent guy. I was also amused that they still call her "Hansel" (this nickname first came up on the show years ago, and always seemed surprisingly masculine for a Duggar girl).

Josie seemed much younger than the rest, and prone to butting in when she didn't need to. I did feel bad for her when she mentioned Tyler or Michael tearing the head off her doll back in the day before she even got to play with it.

Jana is still over everything. The most animation she showed was her wistful reminiscing about the old house.

I do wonder whether Joy had someone else (non-sister) to keep an eye on her kids while she did the video with her sisters? She said Austin was out of town. Evy wandered in and out now and then, and I realize the video was edited and Joy might have gotten up in between to deal with the kids, but it still seems odd (though on-brand, I suppose) to leave your small children to their own devices while you hang out (and film a 20-minute video) with your sisters.

  8. Jed!'s kids are closer together (though not quite Irish twins), but they didn't get pregnant with their first as quickly.

Jed!+Katey--> married 4/3/21, first kid born 5/2/22, second born 5/24/23

Jer+Hannah--> married 3/26/22, first kid born 12/25/22, second born 2/25?/24

Have you read threads for shows 90 Day Fiancé, Sister Wives and Little People Big World?  I frequent them and they are extremely snarky.  I can’t compare them to the various threads on Counting On, because I rarely frequent them, except for the Prayer Closet.  I’m wondering if it’s due to those shows still airing and Counting On not still airing.

I think it's due to someone/ multiple people complaining about this particular thread, and not about the others? I would think the other threads will get noticed eventually (or perhaps not; who knows?).

The Bateses are no longer on the air, but their thread hasn't gotten red lit, even though the snark there is in the same vein as here (minus a felon), and some of their thread titles are similarly snarky (Is it mean to refer to John Webster as Lurch? Is "frumping" offensive?).

As far as I can tell the show hasn't been officially renewed for next season.  I've been checking and checking and hoping and hoping......

On the Miss Scarlet and the Duke board, someone posted a tweet that quoted a PBS exec saying that there would be news about All Creatures and Miss Scarlet soon. From the way it was phrased, it sounded like they were both renewed.

Does anyone recall from the books when Helen delivered their first child? Was it while James was serving, during the war?

It was during the war, while James was still training in England. I seem to remember that he was told he'd get a brief leave when the baby was born, but he really missed Helen and managed to sneak away a few times to go see her... and one of those times he arrived right after the baby was born. And then he lied and had word sent that the baby was born several weeks later, so that he could have his leave after Helen was recovered and they could enjoy their time together more.

I want to know how well a show has to do to earn that extra Christmas episode each season. Downton was obviously massive, call the midwife is pretty big...I think. All Creatures seems fairly popular. Is it mainly bc of the ratings/popularity? Or Bc they're under Masterpiece Theatre rather than Masterpiece Mystery? Why don't the detective shows get an extra holiday episode :(

I think it's decided by the British networks, as the Christmas specials are a big thing there in terms of holiday viewing. Probably based on ratings/ popularity. I know Grantchester had a Christmas special once, but never again. The only British mystery that I can think of that seems to have a regular Christmas special is Death in Paradise?

With Miss Scarlet, it seems to be a mainly PBS-led production these past few seasons (I think seasons 3 and 4 aired on PBS first... the network it airs on in the UK, Alibi, doesn't seem to be a major network), and I doubt PBS cares about Christmas specials, especially since their schedule doesn't align to actually show the special on Christmas.

She can’t even pay the accountant, let alone the detectives….

I didn't necessarily mean a financial deal (though as @chaifan pointed out, the business seems to have miraculous improved in the month to six weeks since Nash returned), but you'd think it would behoove Nash to keep the business running, too. Could he not make her a partner/ temporarily cede his business to her/ do something, legally speaking, to keep the Nash and Sons office running even though he can't head it? It just seemed weird/ a plot contrivance to let all that go when they were finally successful. (And I get that Nash was successful before Eliza and presumably figures he can be again after his legal troubles are over, but considering their newfound friendship, you'd think he'd want to help her out.)

  14. Is it sad that Clarence was my favorite character this season? I hope he comes back.

Not pleased about Phelps getting the job, but Fitzroy being confident with his father was all kinds of hot.

Could Eliza not come to some kind of deal with Nash to keep the office and employees under her name?

I assume next season (if there is one) will pick up after a time jump, and William will be back from New York and Nash will be out of jail...
