  1. I imagine that, if needed, they'll just say that Rolf perfected his technique after the situation with Will and now ... voila! ... death no longer exists in Salem!
  2. Yep. The story (as revealed in Rolf's diary ... and by Susan back when everyone was in Memphis) is that Susan and Rolf found Will after Ben's attack. And Will was still alive (though barely). Rolf injected him with something to make him appear dead. Thus everyone assumed Will was a goner when Gabi found him. Then Rolf injected him a second time with something the brought him back. Not from death, mind you. He was never actually dead. It just revived him from the deep sleep he was in thanks to the first injection. And Will knows this. He just read it out loud to himself. So he should realize that he was never dead and, based on the facts in front of him, Rolf can't actually bring someone back from the dead. (I concede that I don't recall the situation with John's death, which was brought up in the diary.) This makes the whole Vivian thing a bit ridiculous. Are we supposed to believe that someone injected her with something to bring her back from the dead? Even though the show told us moments beforehand that that's not how it works? Should we have seen Vivian injected twice (once before Kayla pronounced her dead and once afterward)? Sorry. Shit like this drives me a little crazy. I know that Days often plays fast and loose with facts, but something like this seems like a key factor in the show. Can Rolf bring people back from the dead or not? I mean ... that's a pretty big thing to be wishy-washy about. It completely changes the fabric of the show. If it's a real thing, we're now watching a science fiction show where death is not a thing to even bat an eye at, right? (Also, I tend to get nit-picky when the show is super boring. And ... boy is it ever these days!)
  3. Thank you! This has been driving me NUTS. It has been well established that Will was never actually dead. And now we have Will reading that fact aloud seconds before going on about how Rolf's serum could save people from death. No! For a reporter, his reading comprehension skills are crap. Now ... I don't recall all the details of John coming back from the dead. So maybe Rolf really can work miracles. But in the case of Will (and the citizens of Melaswen, as pointed out by JBC344), all Rolf did was make people think Will was dead long enough to kidnap him.
  4. This show is cute, but man ... they only play one note. I feel like every episode since the premiere has been basically the same. Stella feels insecure in her marriage. Wes needs to prove he is with her because he loves her. She gets indignant and laments about how hard life really is. He gets wet puppy-dog eyes. All's well in the end. Even the previews for the next episode hint at some variation on that theme. It's already old. But, alas ... it may not matter. The show has been punted to Fridays where it will likely wither and die.
  5. They may as well go this route. Lock him up and throw away the key. There is nothing they can do with this character to even remotely redeem him in my eyes. He's completely odious. And how stupid is Dr. Laura? There's no way in hell she can ever let Abigail out again after all that's transpired. Isn't the point of the alters to protect Abigail? If so, they are doing a horrendous job. Missing a few hours had Abigail running to the hospital. She's now missing days, will have no recollection of going to Hong Kong, and will need to answer for selling her best friend up the river. What could possibly go wrong?! (I know, I know. Why am I even looking for logical storytelling during this shitshow of a story line?) I agree with pretty much everyone's take on the Lani situation. The thing that's most frustrating to me is the show's need to make an issue like this black-or-white. Abe can actually be mad at both Lani and Valerie. And that would make some sense. Most people do not have a finite amount and anger to dole out and can see situations from multiple viewpoints.
  6. I keep wondering if the actress who plays the sister left the show for some reason and this is how they've decided to handle her absence. It's super awkward.
  7. Oh, man. My heart is nothing much more than an icy lump of resentment, but Steve and Kayla really brought the feels. Nicely done, old friends. Nicely done indeed. I thought the scenes with Tripp and Ciara were a little off. It didn't really make a lot of sense for Ciara to be mad after Tripp basically said a) he thinks she is hot(ter than Claire), b) he wants to be with her because she's beautiful inside and out, and c) he's a woke millennial who is not into objectifying the ladies. That's pretty swoon-worthy stuff if you ask me. I feel bad for Chloe. On one hand she's got a creeper sending her flowers. On the other, she has Lucas, who won't even let her speak for herself. Both of these dudes (and Stefan, for that matter) could take a lesson from Tripp on how to treat women in 2018.
  8. I'm digging Adrienne's sassy mom hair. I'm not digging Leo's grandpa sweater. And that's all I took away from Wednesday's episode.
  9. The super hot guy who bartends at the Pub and was so clearly not into Sonny.
  10. Paul and Will banged it out on the second date. And they totally would have done it before then, but a) their casual hookup was interrupted by Sonny and b) their first date got thwarted by some divorce papers. That seems like some pretty realistically gay coupling ... at least in my experience. ;o)
  11. Well ... now that we have a whopping five of them in Salem at the moment, the odds are better than ever before!
  12. I’m torn on the portrayal of gay characters on the show. As a gay man, I’m glad they exist and are allowed to have romances just like everyone else. Perhaps the sex scenes are not as racy as some would like, but they do exist. And that's something. On the flip side, there is nothing about the characters that really suggests they are gay beyond the fact that they are attracted to members of the same sex. And that’s mildly frustrating. But it also feels like a consequence of the medium. As DisneyBoy mentioned, other minority characters lack truly realistic portrayals as well. Perhaps that’s because it’s daytime television, and the audience is likely largely made up of more conservative, older viewers. But I also think it’s more about the fact that soaps are essentially plot driven. It’s about the romance and the intrigue. It’s not about the deep inner lives of the characters. Characters are less defined by who they are than by what the story line requires of them. And that's true of all the characters. We don't know what movies Marlena enjoys or what kind of music Chad listens to. We don't get those personal shades for any characters really. It would be weird if they constantly mentioned that Sonny is a big Cher fan just to give him more of a "gay" personality. I did have a moment yesterday when I wondered if they would dare make Leo bisexual. It would be really interesting to have a character that could romantically move around the canvas without the constraints of being attracted to only one gender—especially if that character is a gold-digging schemer.
  13. Oh, Jesus. Can you imagine? She can go off on the horrible murderess Gabi. Then Gabby can come out to play and go off on what a shrew Julie is. Fun for the whole family! I just really can’t stand Julie. She opens her mouth and I want to punch her in the face. Even when she has a valid point, she ruins it. Yes, Rafe deserves to be called out. But the transgressions of Rafe’s family have nothing to do with his keeping a secret from Hope. Nothing. Just once I’d like for someone (please let it be Gabi) to take a deep breath, look Julie in the eyes, and run through every horrible thing a Horton has done over the last 50 years. Every. Last. Thing.
  14. Stefan blew the cover to Gabby a while back. He ripped her wig off and forced her to see that she was not the real Gabi, but only one of Abby's alters. That's what brought Dr. Laura out. She needed to a) protect Gabby from the pain of the truth and b) chastise Stefan for making Gabby see the truth. So now both Dr. Laura and Gabby are aware they are alters. And Gabby wants to take over for good. The shit is still stupid (especially if you spend more than 8 seconds thinking about Stefan's motivations), but they did at least explain this particular piece of stupidity.
  15. More than just gross, he's gross and boring. There is just nothing to this character at all. His doesn't visibly react to anything. He doesn't seem to care about anything. We're told he's a conniving business man. We're told he's ruthless. We're told (and we kinda see) that he wants Abigail/Gabigail. But none of that comes across in the acting. He's just ... there. Even in the scenes with Abigail/Gabigail, it's never really clear to me that he's attracted to or is intrigued by her. There is all of this crazy stuff happening around him (Abigail's alters, a murder investigation in which everyone thinks he's the killer, a corporate takeover, the planting of evidence to frame someone else) and he's just standing there looking bored out of his mind. Anything I think I know about Stefan, I only know because other characters tell me it's so or the dialogue makes it clear. He gives me nothing.
  16. Maybe. Well ... probably. But I will admit I was pleasantly surprised when she said she'd slept with Eli. I thought the show would end with her simply saying she'd slept with Gabi's boyfriend. And then we'd come back on Friday to her saying she once slept with JJ.
  17. Best I can figure is that Abigail killed Andre, snapped, and split into Gabigail (as Dr. Laura explained). She changed clothes (in the Gabi Chic office?) and then went back to Andre's office to clean up the evidence. While she was in there, Vivian and Stefan came in and she hid. That's how she knows they were standing over Andre's dead body. Vivian and Stefan leave. Then Gabigail leaves. Stefan scrubs the security footage so that no one knows he and Vivian were in Andre's office (apparently without viewing it first), and inadvertently scrubs all of what happened except the part where Gabigail leaves the office with the lid. Thus there is no evidence of Abigail coming or going. Maybe? (The "Gabi" versus "Gabby" thing is really killing me.)
  18. It's just simple soap opera math, guys. Steve + Bo = Best Friends John + Bo = Best Friends Steve - Bo = Steve Needs a New Best Friend John - Bo = John Needs a New Best Friend Steve Needs a New Best Friend + John Needs a New Best Friend = Steve and John are Best Friends Et ... voila!
  19. I prefer to think that they are invited, but just decline to attend. They've been around for a while and know the deal. You buy a gift, get all dressed up, head on over ... and someone storms in to put a halt to the proceedings. Such a waste of time. And you never even get to the reception; you just wind up back at home starving and with another damn blender to return.
  20. As someone mentioned above, it likely has something to do with the fact that Days was not shot in HD until fairly recently. It could also be that Bravo wants to show the episodes featuring gay characters; they pull a pretty big LGBTQ audience.
  21. Two people on Monday's episode literally said that John saved Steve's life. Can we not? Please! If I shoot you in the face, stand over you until you are almost dead, and then call an ambulance so that your life is spared, I highly doubt your first instinct will be to say that I saved your life. Even if I give you a nice sob story about why I needed to do it to save you (or whatever). Team Kayla forever! I'm mostly bored with Will and Paul and Sonny. But anything that makes Sonny unhappy is a-okay in my book. So ... get it, Will. Get it right in Sonny's smug face.
  22. I can't believe how casually they confirmed that Abigail killed Andre. I suppose that could be a lie (do we trust Dr. Laura?), but for now it stands. And it was just tossed into the middle of an episode during a conversation to which I was paying very little attention. I will say, however, that Dr. Laura is my favorite of Abigail's personalities. And that includes the actual Abigail.
  23. Yeah. I'm not understanding how this is supposed to help Abigail either. The show did make it seem like maybe Kate was going to take the fall, but then pulled a switch and showed Gabi with the coat. Perhaps, as sas616 pointed out, Vivian went against Stefan's wishes and framed Gabi instead of Kate? Although that makes little sense since Vivian would love nothing more than to take down Kate. So ... color me confused. (Though I am not confused about the fact that Abigail has never looked better than she did at the end of Wednesday's episode.) I'm actually digging Ciara and Tripp together. I don't always love Ciara as a character, but this actress is so much better than the last one that I find myself actually caring about her for the first time in forever. It feels a bit like they want her to be the next Sami (good heart, but always does the wrong thing; bad temper; a bit of a schemer), and I'm not completely mad about it. As it is, I'd take her over Claire any day of the week. Who do I need to bribe to have Hope and Rafe shipped to Hong Kong permanently and replaced with Shawn and Belle?
  24. I love the crazy family trees on soaps. Any time they hint at a romantic relationship between two characters, I start to mentally plot out their genealogies just to make sure they are not related. It's insane. Of course, that's never really an issue. But sometimes it's a little too close for comfort in my book. Take Trip, for example. He is Steve's and Ava's son. So he's not actually related by blood to the two women he's most likely to be paired up with. But Steve is Ciara's uncle through marriage. Which makes Trip her cousin through marriage. And since Ciara is Claire's aunt, Claire is not too far removed from that particular branch of the family tree either. Sure, there's no actual blood relation between Trip and these women, but ... who really wants to date their cousin? I also think that these tangled family trees cause some (female) characters to be unjustly criticized for dating too many men. Both Gabi and Nicole fall into this camp. I see comments that suggest other viewers find them a bit too promiscuous. But I'd wager that's about the fact they're related by blood to so few characters and are thus able to date more freely. Someone like Abigail, for example, has far fewer options. She's related by blood to Eli and JJ and Trip and Will and Sonny and just about any man in her age bracket besides Chad and Stefan. Meanwhile, Gabi can (and in many cases has) date any of the men I listed.
  25. I'll be honest that I do not recall exactly how things played out (I tend to zone out when Rafe and Hope on are my screen). But it always seemed to me that Hope was dragging her feet (for months) when it came to marrying Rafe because she was still hung up on Bo or didn't want to have her heart broken again or whatever. She had no issue roping Rafe into helping her cover up a murder, but couldn't seem to find time to set a date and truly commit to him. And when Rafe finally called her on it, she admitted that he was right; she didn't want to get married. So even if Rafe was the one who actually ended things, it was because Hope wasn't ready to be with him in the first place. #Truth Ciara annoys me less simply because her collarbones are less aggressive.
