  1. Without an ID, how do people know you are who you say you are when you're at the polling place? We have to bring proof of address when we vote here, but government ID isn't necessary. You can bring a utility bill and student ID, for example. But if it's a government issued ID, that's all you need. You register to vote when you file your taxes. https://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=vot&dir=ids&document=index&lang=e
  2. And I also can’t have grapefruit. Other citruses are fine, just not grapefruit. I’ve also added yuzu (Japanese grapefruit) after checking with my neurologist since it’s more closely related. It kind of sucks since it’s in a lot of sauces in Japanese cuisine.
  3. Anti-seizure meds can mess up one’s liver. I’ve basically stopped drinking any alcohol, save for a few sips at New Year’s Eve and a bit at Seder.
  4. Same with Anderson Cooper. Everyone knew but he didn’t officially come out until what, 2017? 2018?
  5. Wasn’t Tim out by then anyway? I thought everyone knew.
  6. Henry Higgins in Pygmalion/My Fair Lady is a "confirmed bachelor." :D
  7. This was my kid and camp last summer. Because he had bathroom anxiety.
  8. I want to add that we got a taste of what out-of-pocket healthcare costs can be like when my son was born. We had trouble getting him his healthcard because he was carried by a gestational surrogate. And being premature, he was in the NICU for over a week. Total cost was in the thousands when normally it would be covered by the province. Took a few credit cards. We got everything back after we secured his birth certificate (with our names on as parents) and therefore could get his healthcard.
  9. Or it could be chronic heartburn. Or GERD. We ordered rice bowls for dinner on Saturday and he wanted pickles (don't ask) in it. Tummy ache that night and into the next morning. GERD symptoms can also include a chronic cough (which he has...or at least it worsens in colder months).
  10. I was TODAY years old to learn that Ontario schools are funded by grants from taxes and not directly from property taxes like American schools. This doesn't mean that all schools do just as well, however. There are other factors that determine this such as whether kids speak English at home, whether they live in two parent households, education level of parents, etc... More info here: https://peopleforeducation.ca/public-education-in-ontario/how-education-is-funded/
  11. Except when the majority isn't the majority or if they're referring to specific ethnic groups (for example). Like, I shouldn't be told that I'm a self-centred BWORD if was referring the education rate of a certain demographic or if I was talking about demographics at a typical XYZ school in the 90s and how that doesn't reflect what the other person was talking about.
  12. As a walk in or by ambulance? The 911 cases usually get triaged first.
  13. SOOOOOO many forms to fill for kids' day camps!!! Especially when the child is new to the camp (i.e. never registered before, so the camp does not have their record)!! We're only doing two weeks at this one, just to see if he likes it. It's associated with a sleep away for older kids, an option for us when he's older!!
  14. My husband was stuck in the hall once when he had to stay overnight. :(
  15. It only covers the basics. Not things like dental, prescription medication, semi-private rooms in hospitals and such. So if you need to be in the hospital overnight and you don't have private insurance, you're basically stuck in a four person room. Ugh.
  16. My son's recent bloodwork was a little bit off when we had it checked due to various tummy issues he's complained about. Turns out it's really no big deal, but we were told to "reverse diary" his dinners if he complains of issues overnight (very frequent). He's not very good at describing his "tummy aches" but has showed me by pinching my arm. I'm supposed to talk to his doctor in two weeks.
  17. I am good on diversity as long as everyone’s feelings are validated and everyone is given the chance to speak if they feel like it. If there’s any vibe of “shut up ma’am/sir” then sorry, I’m out. Like I’ve said before, if you really want to know how I feel, feel free to go to my blog (either the old one or Substack).
  18. I don't think that's the ONLY reason. In addition, there were groups who did not feel they were being validated (White and male or OTHERWISE) during the big DE&I push. You know what I got when I tried to talk about a "lived experience?" Shut up, lady! We don't need you to talk. Whoa...you're not telling the other person that! If the OTHER person talks about THEIR lived experience and why they feel a certain way, then it's perfectly fine because it "fit the narrative" of, say, an immigrant's child. Me? Nope, you're not allowed. That's what I mean. I'm GLAD they're not doing this anymore. At least it gives people space. Maybe it can be explored again when they find a better way to discuss. And yes, I'm allowed to be angry.
  19. I don't know if anyone listens to Dr. Aliza's Raising Good Humans podcast, but her recent conversation with Dr. Kurt Gray (episode name: Navigating Moral Differences: How to Help Guide Your Child’s Moral Compass without Moral Righteousness) with Professor Kurt Gray included a discussion on how it's better to have a conversation and LISTEN to other people to better understand WHY they feel the way they do (without spewing out stats because that's a big turn-off and why we're always heated. Not great for one's mental health). It's the STATS that turned me off from DE&I committees. The gaslighting of personal experiences was so dismissive and offensive that i just HAD it and needed to leave the group. It was for my own mental health and wellbeing. And to be honest, it's WHY I think so many companies have gotten rid of DE&I.
  20. Speaking of BLM, an I GLAD the whole diversity committee meetings thing isn't as active anymore. You won't BELIEVE how much gaslighting I faced. I suppose it felt worse because it was all done virtually (gee, THANKS A LOT pandemic!!), but it's one reason why I had to leave that group. It was taking a toll on my mental health.
  21. What I like about Primetimer is how we all come from different walks of life. And we somehow get along. Pretty cool, if you ask me!
  22. That is DEFINITELY not what that person meant when she said what she said! A lot of people won't understand until they're in that situation. I have talked about where I went to school here, but I would often feel judged in an IRL situation unless the "vibe" feels right. What's weird is that I'm neurodivergent, so I usually don't "feel" vibes. But somehow I can in CERTAIN situations.
  23. I last heard the term 20 years ago. By "slumming," they mean they don't want to look like they're better off and an easy target. This usually pertains to road trips. They'll rent a beat up car, for example.
  24. Except when I hear people who criticize those who send their children to private schools, I assume they also mean anyone who is slightly above-above average income. Definitely NOT billionaires. Not even CLOSE. This is why you hear a lot of upper middle class young people talk about "slumming."
  25. Well, the top 1% aren't billionaires, that's for sure. They're pretty normal people as I said. And @Dimity, don't worry, Danielle Smith would probably think I vote NDP based on her views.
