The Bells (or subsequent owners) are making lots of money off of the Gaines name.  I remember the same thing happening with the Barn turned house.

They aren't necessarily making money because I'm pretty sure nobody is going to pay $950/sf in Waco. Didn't Chimp & Jo stop the buyer of the barn from using the FU name? I remember she bought it from the couple for whom it was FU'ed, and then listed it at an astronomical markup, which displeased the Gaines.

Semi off topic I'm sorry to hear about Airbnb getting shut down.  I've been well pleased and in my experience the visits have been very neutral to the neighborhoods.  MMV, obvs.

Ramona is tired. Never understood her appeal.

Carole should just throw that filthy couch away and buy a new one at Value City.  :-)

QFT! Carole could get some pricey tiger-stripe fabric for the sofa (but not the crazy-expensive silk Lee had on it to begin with) at Zarin Fabric and have the place look good for a fraction of the cost of Beff's Bar.

Since I refuse to watch the show, I have to ask how bad the drapes look with the kittehs' damage. Because I begin to wonder if Carole is going for a latter-day Beale/Bouvier grunge?

ETA an echo of @MerryMary and @Yours Truly -- Tinsley's story is straight sad.  Hope'n'pray that exposing her life as a HW is the right thing to help her heal and figure it all out.

the same as all those people buying jeans or tshirts that are ripped or look worn and used. I will never get it but whatever. Funny though to think that thinks that looked that way at one point in time would make you look poor or trashy and at some point over the years it became the "in" thing.

I'm so old, I remember when torn jeans were patched before you wore 'em again. I suppose a reworking of that is down the line somewhere, too!

Does anybody else ever look around their house and imagine how C&J would propose fixing it up?  My abode is a mid-century story & a half, very cottagey with rooms well-defined by walls, lotsa walls.  And standard, 8-foot ceilings. I often think it wouldn't even make it past the first audition!

Besides the 3 Emmy Awards she won?

I'm not that familiar with how tv news gets made, but as I understand it, she was a producer for ABC News, and as such was responsible for arranging interviews and locations and getting people where they were supposed to be. Without her, the reporters would not have had time to write, nor the media (cameras, mics, commlines back to the satellite or studio), and thus she earned an Emmy or 3 as an important, intrinsic  part of a team.

However, she didn't have a deadline for writing news scripts, because she wasn't a reporter. So her awards for news reporting dont necessarily prove her ability to write to meet a deadline.

I may be quite wrong about all the above and will attempt to be a gracious recipient of correction.

Mario moved onto greener pastures for a reason. Ramona is cray cray.

I've always thought - since I first watched her - that this one dials the crazy *down* for the cameras, unlike those who might behave outrageously to get screen time.

Not real difficult to imagine what Mario experienced over 20+ years.

  6. @film noire, I love those mitts and will use them forever! Thank you!

Also, thanks for info on Ms. Farrah as artist! Pretty dang fascinating; if I were closer to Austin and could take Southern summer weather, I'd visit that installation! The online copy of the brochure was worth reading.

@ryebread, I really wanted to like Her Highness because widow / of classy Polish guy / well-written memoir / seemed above the HW fray, but I really can't, and your "if...then..." made me laugh about it! TY.

Thank God that I moved to Arkansas.

NWA, by chance? I dig Fayetteville and will get to Crystal Bridges the minute the temps top out at 80*F.

  7. @chessiegal, thanks for the tip. I looked at the BBB website & found a living room rug by Magnolia with this description:

"Magnolia Home By Joanna Gaines Kivi Rugs offer a durable contemporary accent to your interior décor with its tiered distressed pattern and pops of color

Heirloom-quality design inspired by well-worn antique Persian rugs..."

I got tickled because I personally don't buy new things that are purposely made to look old. I get the concept but it's just not my aesthetic.

The largest rug was priced st $2,999 IIRC. Get going, Chimp & Joprah!  I'm glad to see reasonably nice people making bank from things other people want to buy.

Did it just this weekend at a cute diner in Kansas City. Asked the waiter what the special was, to which he replied "Liver and Onions". I wrinkled my nose, made a face, and was completely unafraid and unashamed to tell him I would prefer to just eat my arm.  Because I don't want to eat liver and onion

Oo, more for me! I'm going to KC soon -- can you please tell me the name of the diner ? Please and thank you!!!!!

My first reaction when they said lavender ice cream was, "That's not a food!  That's a scent!" and I made the spraying hand motion.  So, yeah...  I'm totally right there with Carole.

I thought so too, then I tried some sugar cookies made with lavender. Mm, mm, GOOD! Light and the herb taste took it from being a nice sugar cooky to a thing of wonder.

Well, we could ask that same first question to any of the HWs, on this and any other version of the franchise.

Yep! Exactly. That was my point. But I was half-asleep and unable to properly articulate it. Any RH viewers who watched to see a typical day of a typical rich NYC'er .... probably don't, any more. We watch - or let others watch and read their comments* - to see what new snarkworthy behavior these gals will display!

*And I really do appreciate your watching, and thoroughly enjoy all your comments -- "all y'alls' comments," as the Southern home remodelers would say!

I bet she wouldn't act the same way -- dismissive of a food tradition, impolite -- at a high end eatery serving afternoon tea, or an ice cream parlor run by WASPS.  She'd be just DARLING there.

    I bet she would.

Would it make a difference if cameras weren't recording her? Because as much as I've grown to dislike Carole, I feel like it would.  Apparently she made faces and cutesy hand gestures in Chinatown. Would her responses to the food have made the editing cut if she'd simply said, "No thanks" and not tried to make a joke about lavender? ...And with that last phrase I seem to have gone into Jane Austen Land!

n Carole's cultural schema and the terms "rape victims" and "mistresses" are somehow synonymous so I guess her fetishization of ignorance as adorable is unsurprising.

Wait, what? Carole has referred to rape victims as "mistresses"? I may have to quit this show altogether if that's her proclamation!

But Carole is an expert on racism and other cultures.

Don't you know she's an authority on American Indians?

Gasp -- don't you mean "Native Americans?" [\mild sarcasm]

also loved Bethany's sweater when she was in Chinatown and Carole's outfit in her talking head. I wonder what they do with no longer wanted clothing?

IIRC Carole sells hers online--I may not RC, though.

LuAnn's gloating over her catch was so unseemly.  It wasn't just her thrill at finding "true love" and a playmate, but the putdown of other women with the repeated shrieks that she got him, that he was so eligible, etc.  The most grating comment was that she feels like Cinderella at the ball with there being so many women competing and HER getting the glass slipper. Ouch. Love is not a zero-sum game, people!

Oooo, this is where I'm agsin SO glaf you all "watch this do I don't have to"!  This scene alone would've sent me into teeth-grinding mode. Have some class, X-countess!

Unfortunately, I don't think Avery will ever be considered physically beautiful. She looks a lot like Mario.  On a guy, those features look pretty good. On a woman, not so much.

Fortunately, she has a beautiful personality, so for me she is beautiful.

I liked your post because I agree--except that I think Avery has a unique look and it is beautiful, even to those who don't know her personality.  She's got a rather wide bridge (?right word?) between her eyebrows which is unusual but certainly not ugly.

Most of all, she radiates (when I remember seeing her on tv) a happiness and a calm, a centered-ness that is completely lacking in her mother for sure, and to a degree in all of the Housewives.

So basically I agree with you 99%. And I wanted to take the opportunity to post in praise of Avery!

I cringed when she said I know he loves me because he reaches for me every morning or something like that.

I immediately thought he did that to check to see if she was still there. He knows what happened to the boyfriend right before the Count blew into her life.

    Knee-slapper!!

This really bothered me. It's cool and urbane to be a fiftysomething who "shacks up" with a younger dude... but let's shade someone because he's fifty and oh my, hasn't been married before and has TWO. FAILED. ENGAGEMENTS? Who cares? How does it impact you? She's not concerned, she's just snarking.

Carole is, IMO, clearly still bitter about Luann's attitude toward her relationship with Mr. Sexy Salad.

You've just written a great memo to sending Carole to free agency! I was gonna say "back to the minors," but that would leave her open to be called back up. Do not want.  Carole? Bye, "girl."
